Sharp AQUOS LC-37D7U

Strengths: After a lot of research, I decided this was the best LCD-HDTV currently available. The colors are natural. The size and speaker placement matched my entertainment center. Titanium finish a plus.

Weakness: Had to diagram complicated component and cable connections. Numerous calls to Sharp with long wait times (up to 45 minutes). Disabled TV Guide, seems redundant. Used DISH program guide instead.

Have been enjoying TV for about 3 weeks. Wished it was cheaper. And, don't forget the expensive HD cables.

Used DVI connection (not HDMI) to connect DISH 811 receiver to TV. Important, Sharp tech said that when using DVI, the only way to get sound from DISH 811 to TV was via a 3.5mm stereo minijack with Y-adaptor (red/white). Seems odd that Sharp designed it this way. If you try connecting audio-out from satellite to audio-in TV, there's no sound on TV. Also noticed the audio lagged the picture on channels less than 100. Very noticeable/annoying when watching the news. Will call Sharp or appreciate other users' input. Non-HD/digital pictures were fair to satisfactory. HD and DVD pictures were sharp and vibrant.

Overall, my family and I love this set.

AQUOS LC-37D7U 37" LCD TV

Strengths: Great picture in HD Digital cable for the few channels available .

Weakness: Difficult to set up, manual misleading, tech support poor. Terrible picture using Satellite, picture is smeared, better but not acceptable by regular cable.

Sharp agreed unit was possibly defective only after many calls and confirmed by local Sharp repair shop, this took a month. TV guide did not work, Cablecard set up is difficult if not impossible even after top techs from cable company tried to make it work. Repair shop has had the TV for 3 weeks. So not only a major investment in money but time as well, all for naught. No apology or explanation from Sharp throughout process.

Sharp LC-37D7U

Strengths: Nice and clear pictures, Large selection of inputs, TV Guide is nice (Once you get it setup)

Weakness: Manual is not very clear. Setup is confusing but a quick phone call to support line helps solved everything. Also I wish it would have 1920 x 1080 resolution.

Out of the box, the picture looks really nice but a bit warm for my preference. The TV comes with multiple types of inputs which is a nice touch. Also the TV Guide feature is really cool.

Best 37" LCD TV Made

Strengths: Great picture, good response time for fast action. As for a PC Monitor, I.Link for a high performance serial Bus IEEE 1394 is nice.

Weakness: A little hard to set up because of the vast functionality but I am learning. Could not get TV Guide system to do much.

Always debatable, but I think this is the best 37" LCD made and the price is down $1000 from January. You can buy an offbrand second-rate TV without the HD Tuner for something like $1400 but spending that kind of money on Junk just hurts. Picture is great even without using HD.

See other reviews and you will agree that this may be a TV you have for 40 years. Rated for 60,000 hours of use -- thats 41 years at 4 hours per day.

Love the Speakers on the bottom with this unit which balances out the look and makes it fit better in smaller spaces.

AQUOS LC-37D7U 37" LCD TV

Strengths: Bright, sharp picture right out of the box. Good blacks, greys. Unusually good on analog and great on HD channels. Good sound. No cable box necessary to get HD (including HBO, etc.)and TV Guide info.

Weakness: Complex set. Several calls to Sharp and cable provider were necessary to program the set.

I looked at all competitors and decided this was the best among them for picture, price, and predicted longevity. LCD has improved to the point it rivals the best plasma in image quality, with no fear of image burn in. The picture is brilliantly bright, looking wonderful even in a room with lots of windows and sunshine. And LCD can be somewhat cheaper.

The location of the speakers (at the bottom) was an important factor for me because this is set needed to fit in a narrow spot (it is not my main home theater-- for that I have a two-year old and huge-screen Mitsubishi that still delivers well.) It is nice to have the programming information without a cable box. It is also impressive looking-- the titanium cover looks, well, Sharp!

I hope my enthusiasm continues well beyond day three of owning this set.!

Sharp Aquos LC-37D7U

Strengths: DVI and HDMI inputs, cable card, numerous video adjustments, quality

Weakness: No PIP,

After owning a Sharp Aquos LC-26GD4U for about a year (used in the den) I decided to purchase an Aquos for my family room. The LC-37D7U like its cousin the LC-26GD4U has a magnificent picture with numerous video control settings to adjust to anyone’s needs. After researching many brands for my particular requirements and needs, I kept going back to the Sharp.

1) I wanted a TV that of course had a great picture, but I also wanted a TV that fit into my room, not one that overpowered the room and looked like it was shoe horned in.

2) I wanted a set that had speakers on the bottom and not on the sides so it would fit diagonally into a corner (I’m not currently using a surround sound system).

3) I wanted DVI input for the Comcast/Motorola DCT-6200 HD box and a HDMI input for my new Panasonic DVD-S97S which has HDMI up-conversion to 720P and 1080i. It’s surprising how few TV’s have these two inputs, how much can it cost to add these?

4) I wanted a two tuner PIP like my LC-26GD4U has, but unfortunately the LC-37D7U doesn’t have PIP. Instead, Sharp now provides built in TV Guide which currently doesn’t work with the Comcast/Motorola DCT-6200 HD box (they say their working on it!?) Not sure if I’ll ever use the TV Guide function since Comcast has a fairly decent guide on their box. Well, I didn’t get the PIP (can’t always get what you want…..sounds like a song title). I guess Sharp decided that since their PIP doesn’t work with the DVI and HDMI inputs anyway, why include it (I wonder why?) I guess it also reduced the cost of having two tuners. I paid $2647.00 delivered for my LC-37D7U through an PriceGraber merchant site.....Great deal!

While I’m on my soap box, I wonder why Motorola and Comcast which are probably the biggest providers of HD boxes in the country don’t have a HDMI output? Also, why is it that there are no remote control codes provided from Motorola for use with the Sharp or any other manufacturers provided remote? The Sharp has a really nice remote; to bad it’s worthless with a Motorola box!

I love my new Sharp LC-37D7U and always amazed by the detail on the screen. I can’t tell if the TV shows and movies are that entertaining or just the details that the Sharp shows. My neighbor said the Sharp looks great just sitting there not turned on. I would recommend this TV to anyone, you may pay a bit more, but you get more! A word of caution though, the owners manual is a bit confusing, particularly in the area of channel setup, air, cable, digital and analog (pages 35 – 44). They spent too much time discussing over the air set up and not enough on cable and satellite which I believe is what most people use. But don’t fear….Sharp has a great customer service hotline to help!

Hope this editorial helps,

VB, Olney, Maryland

Aquos LC-37D7U 37" LCD TV

Strengths: One of the largest LCD widescreens available. Superior picture Quality compared to other televisions. Sleek design makes a very attractive television. All the AV inputs and outputs you'd need.

Weakness: Supplemental sound system is a must to complement TV quality.

I have been using the television for only a week. So far I am very pleased with it. It is great for playing video games, as well as watching TV. I also love the picture quality.

Lack of Tech Support

Weakness: After spending thousand of dollars on the LCD 37" I found a blue box on my screen giving channel info etc which tech support could not remove. The picture is totally ruined and there is no tech help.

Do not purchase any Sharp TV over $1000! They have no intelligent Tech help and cannot provide the basic picture quality. They have a big blue box dominating the Aquos 37" LCD screen giving connection details and their tech support has "no option" to get rid of it unless one manually deletes it with every channel change. For a system that cost me over $5,000 I am ripped off.
