Just go buy this t.v. You can thank me later.

Strengths:

Uhm, everything? Picture is amazing. If you haven't seen one, you should. The menu system is great. you turn it on and say "Wow." Images almost look 3D. 3" deep! This thing is impossibly thin.

Weaknesses:

Hmmm, let see. The remote is absurdly large and clunky (designed by a giant). The designer should be fired. But seriously, who buys (or doesn't buy) a T.V. because of the remote?

Posted 1 year ago - "If you have the means, I highly recommend picking one up." I've got this paired with a Sony STR-DG820 receiver, a PS3 (as the Blue-Ray player), a DirecTV HD DVR, a Wii, and a set of Harmon/Kardon HTKS-11 speakers. I've also got the cheapest $10 antenna I could find at best buy to pick up my local HD stations with the best picture quality (it works great). My wife is not a videophile. I've been putting off upgrading to HD until now and she basically didn't care. She kept saying she thought the picture on our old 11+ year old SD 32" Sony TV still looks good (ok, it does and we're keeping it, but it isn't HD). She basically just went along with my home theater purchase claiming she didn't see the difference or what the big deal was. And then I turned it on late that first night after hooking up that $10 antenna and tuning to the first HD channel and show I could find. She sat on the couch and was stunned. "Wow...it really looks like David Letterman is right here in our room inside that little black box." Nuff said.

Pricey, but you get what you pay for!

Strengths:

Great picture, TV Guide programming, loads of inputs, backlit remote

Weaknesses:

Menu system almost too cumbersome

Posted 1 year ago - Being a previous owner of a Sony XBR4 set from last year, I was dubious about the new Z series. But after checking it out, I was impressed. Sony had brought to market an LCD TV with a great picture and loads of inputs and features. It almost makes the XBR series look anemic. Just for starters, the thickness of the TV is only 3" from front to back, amazing for a set this large. The picture looks excellent with deep blacks. The TV Guide feature is new this year and easy to set up. I only wonder how many buyers can take advantage of this. Cable and satellite users have their own channel listing screen. Presumbably only antenna users can take advantage of this feature. But how many antenna users are out there? Whatever you want to hook up to this set, it can handle it. Four HDMI inputs, 2 component inputs, 2 video inputs. These are just for starters. Optical cable, S-video and Ethernet ports are also available. With my previous XBR set, I couldn't understand why the remote was not lighted. The Z series has corrected this with a welcome blue backlight for viewing in dark rooms. The negatives of this LCD are very short. If you navigate Sony's Xross Media Bar System, you are just overwhelmed by the options you can set. This menu system should have been more simplified with this year's models instead of expanded. If you are looking for an LCD set with a great picture and options that will last for more than just 2-3 years, check out the Sony 46Z4100 TVs.

The best TV purchase I ever made

Strengths:

Great picture, Great for Gaming - 120 hz help reducing artifacts, Multiple input options.

Weaknesses:

Like previous review, the menu can be too cumbersome.

Posted 1 year ago - After comparing and debating for several weeks between this Sony Z and Samsung A650, I finally chose this Sony. Most of the decision is based on the price since A650 is cheaper than the Z. However, Sony has a better picture quality and the Samsung has a lot of glare due to its glass panelling. I used my PS3 to watch Speed Racer (BluRay) to test the TV since Speed Racer has a lot of color in the movie and WOW, this TV deliver a very vibrant picture. The black is deep enough too, even though not as deep as Kuro Plasma but it's one of the best within LCD. Buy this TV and you won't regret it, and this TV will last longer in term of technology wise since it has the latest LCD technology. And will last a long time for the picture quality like other Sony product.

120 Hz is a must!

Strengths:

The 120 Hertz screen refresh feature makes this tv and others with 120 far and away worth the added expense. There is just no comparison with the 60 Hz of most LCDs.

Weaknesses:

Haven't found one yet.

Posted 1 year ago - I love my new Sony. I was going to buy the Samsung, but they were out of stock so I got the Sony instead...same basic features as the high-end Samsung 46". I'm so glad I ended up with what I got after all. Love the thin black frame. Awesome picture! I'm so glad I didn't compromise myself and get a 60 Hz instead. This is SO worth the extra money...and over time, who really cares! You get what you pay for.
