The HP-R4252 is a true plug-and-play plasma TV with an integrated NTSC/ATSC/Digital Cable Ready (DCR) tuner, allowing for viewing of HD programs without the need for a set-top box. Samsung's floating screen plasma TV creates an image that looks as if it is suspended in thin air. The "bezel-less" design means there's no frame around the TV for a big, beautiful picture without boundaries. Bottom-mounted speakers and a sleek silver/black color scheme are perfect for elegant, modern decors. The Samsung Digital Natural Image engine (DNIe) Video Enhancer refines all analog NTSC and wideband video inputs for an overall improvement in picture quality. DNIe improves contrast, white level, picture detail and incorporates digital noise reduction to improve lower quality video inputs. Because everyone sees colors differently, Samsung's DNIe My Color Control allows you to adjust the individual colors of your set without distorting other colors. The range of color adjustment includes Red, Green, Blue, Yellow, Red and White. This ensures true to life colors such as green grass, blue sky and realistic skin tones. White Tone Enhancement also ensures the purest, brightest whites possible. minimize

5 Star Review Good buy

Strengths:

Excellent HD picture with good color. Bevel design is an eye catcher with guests.

Weaknesses:

Blacks on an SD signal have a green tint.

Posted Jun 23, 2006 - This is my third HDTV and first plasma and I can definitely say it is the nicest looking. The color is saturated right out of the box but with some tweaking the picture looks great. Like all plasmas, SD signals are not very pretty so don't expect the same picture you get from an HD signal. CableCard is a definite plus for those with built in cabinets or do not want the hassle of multi remotes. The remote though is cheap looking but has good range. One key thing to remember is the list of inputs. It only has 1 HDMI port (which is enough for my AV setup) but if you are planning to use a cable box and DVD player, you'll need to go component with one source or buy an expensive HDMI capable reciever. Other than the key items I brought up, I believe this is an excellent buy for the price. Recommended.

5 Star Review Beautiful Picture

Strengths:

Picture clarity, easy set up

Weaknesses:

N/A

Posted May 27, 2006 - I was able to pick up the 46" version at a locar discounter for $1499. I was not disapointed with the unit. How enjoyable to watch movies and sporting events on.

3 Star Review Samsung HP-R4252

Strengths:

Picture quality, style, price

Weaknesses:

Input in rear only, remote control layout

Posted May 13, 2006 - This TV has very good picture quality for the price. The style is very slim too. It will be better if there is input in the front or at least on the side. The weakest point is on the remote. Some most used features are under a slide cover. For example, if you want to use the P-I-P feature, you have to constantly sliding the cover back and fore. That may wear it out prematurely. For someone who is more tech savvy, this model has only 1 HDMI input, but the new S4253 model has 2.

4 Star Review Great TV

Strengths:

- HD channels are extremely sharp and vivid - very user friendly menu - very user friendly remote - sleek, sharp looking TV. Brightens up any room - competitive price for a high performing plasma

Weaknesses:

- sub par clarity for non HD (standard analog tv) - doesn't handle black well

Posted Apr 19, 2006 - I purchased this about a week ago at Circuit City. Only yesterday did I get my HD cable box from Time Warner and was able to witness this TV within HDTV realm. It's very impressive for displaying HD. When I was a CC and BestBuy, I stood there for hours comparing this TV with the pioneers, LGs, panasonics that were displayed near them. In terms of clarity, sharpness and brightness, I thought this Samsung was the best one. When I brought it home and tested it out with my HD box, it was even more impressive than it was in the store. Now the disadvantages are that it doesn't display dark blacks very well. Especially when you're not watching it in HD. Now this isn't a HUGE problem for me as of yet. I would definitely recommend this TV.

5 Star Review Worth The Money

Strengths:

No screen door effect, brilliant picture especially with HD channels, good sound, like the design

Weaknesses:

Would like more AV inputs

Posted Apr 4, 2006 - I bought this plasma a month and a half ago and have no regrets. The picture is amazing especially watching the HD channels. After carefully reading other reviews and doing my homework on plasma TVs I decided upon this one. I believe the picture is just as good if not better than other plasmas like Sony and the price on the Samsung is cheaper. The set allows you to set you're own aspect ratios and colors as you'd like and it also includes an auto pixel shift to help eliminate screen burn than can happen on plasmas. I was also pleasantly surprised by the sound from the speakers which are mounted on the bottom of the set to not take up more room. I now watch a lot more TV than I used to because of the set but I also enjoy it a lot more. I would definitely recommend this set to anyone looking.

4 Star Review Great plasma TV!

Strengths:

quality, style and price

Weaknesses:

can't automatically switch between tv input and PC input without restarting PC

Posted Apr 1, 2006 - I spent hours surveying the plasma TV market before I settled down with this one. The TV is awesome. The image is sharp & bright, and the colors are accurate. It requires little bit effort to set up the connections with TV, VCR,HDTV box,and PC input. The only complaint I have is when you use this TV as a PC monitor you have to be careful to switch the input to TV. Since there is no way you can return back to PC mode unless you restart the PC. Overall, considering I only paid $2000 for this 42" TV, I'm very happy with my purchase.

4 Star Review HP-R4252 42" Plasma TV

Strengths:

very clear, light and has its own support stand

Weaknesses:

One tuner, it takes time to go from one station to another.

Posted Jan 26, 2006 - At this point I am very satisfied with the Samsung Plasma TV that I purchased a few weeks ago. A couple item that I learned after buying the TV was you can not use PIP with the TV in both pictures, there is only one tuner after the sales person told me it had two tuners, one for cable and one for Air broadcast. If a TV has PIP, you should be able to watch TV in both screens. I would recommend this item to other people based on the clearity of the picture, but not for items such as mentioned above.

5 Star Review Best Value Plasma

Strengths:

The picture is superior to Sony plasmas that cost 25% more. The frameless design is very attractive and is not distracting to look at when viewing.

Weaknesses:

My personal preference is for the speakers to be on the side. While viewing non-HD channels, the picture sometimes looks a little grainy, but that may have to do more with the size of the TV.

Posted Jan 12, 2006 - Overall, I believe this TV is the best in its class. When viewing in HD, the colors are incredibly bright and sharp. The functions on the TV are very intuitive to use and it is really not necessary to read the instruction manual. I am very pleased with my purchase.

5 Star Review Nice plasma

Strengths:

Picture, contrast, sharpness.

Weaknesses:

Like all plasma TVs it cannot dusplay still images for very long.

Posted Dec 26, 2005 - This is one of the best plasma TVs out there, annoyingly when you watch widescreen movies you do get a little burn in where the black bands are displayed. These usually disappear after using the built in burn protection for about a minute or two. If you are going to use this TV mainly for TV there is nothing better out there, if you want to connect your PC or display many still images consider Samsung's 40 inch LCD HDTV which is similarly priced.

5 Star Review The Perfect HD Television

Strengths:

Sharp picture, vivid colors, easy set-up, good price

Weaknesses:

Only one HDMI port

Posted Dec 24, 2005 - My HP-R4252 arrived a week ago and I am watching more television than I ever wanted to. First the set-up: there's almost nothing to do. The TV did it all. I was watching high definition programming before I had even opened the manual or understood most of the features. I just connected the HDMI cable (which you have to buy separately) from it's single HDMI port to my cable box and after a few minutes of handshaking between the two devices everything worked perfectly. After a few days I familiarized myself with the very easy to understand manual. The only adjustments I made were to set the time and date which were not automatically acquired from my cable signal (I don't know why) and to turn on a feature which dims the brightness automatically when the ambient light in the room gets darker. When I watch anything over cable, the unit automatically presents the image in the best aspect ratio. I really like this as it annoys me when I'm at someone else's house and they have selected an aspect ratio which distorts the image. After a few days I hooked up my old progressive scan DVD player. Some of my older DVDs displayed the movies in a seemingly odd way: very wide and short (top to bottom). I went to the manual and learned about the hidden buttons on the remote that are revealed when you pop open the secret compartment! One of them: the p-size button can be pressed to toggle through aspect ratio corrections. I was quickly watching even these old DVDs (on my old player) in perfect image size once I found this button. So in this case, you do sometimes have to adjust the picture size manually. I had to hook up my DVD with one of the plentiful component connections since there is only one HDMI input on the TV - my only complaint. This is a great TV - the best I have ever seen. Many people told me Panasonic is best, but when I viewed them side-by-side by side in the stores, I preferred this Samsung (which was also less money). I am very happy after one week and would highly recommend this set to anyone.

5 Star Review Great quality at great price

Strengths:

Great picture, Great sounds, high contrast, very easy to setup, sleek design, good TV reception

Weaknesses:

Not yet

Posted Oct 25, 2005 - First saw this at Frys, next to other well known models and immediately set my eyes on this. The quality of the picture is so crisp and vivid. After doing more research, I decided to take this one home for my party planned that night. It was the right decision. It sleek look just make my newly remodeled house more valuable. I hooked up my antenna which doesn't get good reception and whoala, 60+ HDTV & standard channels came up. Everyone at the party (40 or so) was so impressed with the movies picture and the TV channels' quality. The setup menu is very easy once you know how to navigate. The sound quality is just great for TV speakers although it can't beat my 5.1 surround sound system. My on demand ABC news on sbc yahoo internet(which doesn't look that great on my LCD laptop) looks better and adequate via the VGA connection on the TV. So far, I feel very good about this product.

5 Star Review Great Picture, Great Price, Great Looks

Strengths:

- Sleak Design - Picture/Color quality - Easy set up

Weaknesses:

-None

Posted Oct 21, 2005 - I searched for an HDTV in a price range I could afford. $2500 was my max, and even if I was to spend more, I still would have chosen the Samsung. It did however, fit perfectly into my price range and had superior picture quality and looks compared to other sets priced over $3000. It has a cablecard slot which will be great for the future, as right now it does not allow for interactive feature from your Cable Company, such as On Demand, PPV, and the interactive TV Guide. The design has the screen surrounded by a black border, which give the impression of a floating image which is very cool. The speakers are on the bottom as opposed to the sides, which makes this TV much sleaker than others. The picture quality is great right out of the box as I was sitting about 2 feet away from the screen in High Def mode and was blown away. Crispness and color was perfect. It also has an auto pixel shift which helps prevent the notorious burn in factor known on Plasma TV's. I highly recommend this TV!!!
