DONOT BUY PANASONIC OR USE DIGITAL SERVICE SOLUTIONS!!!

Discussion of Plasma & LCD TVs

Posted 2 months ago - I purchased and custom installed the Panasonic Onyx TH50XVS30U in December 2004 to the tune of $8100.00!! It was supposed to be the top of the line plasma at the time. Granted it's been 4 years, however, this tv has the receiver separate from the display and wouldn't you know it the receiver stopped working. Panasonic support took us through a number of troubleshooting steps based on a two blink red light signal and directed us to an authorized service center for repair. Digital Service Solutions charged $175 up front for the estimate which I paid since it would be applied to the repair I planned on to get a couple more years use from this expensive tv. Without ever taking the cover off the component they told me this model was not repairable that you had to buy a replacement from Panasonic. But Digital Service Solutions still kept my $175 for "labor" and told me to call Panasonic to see if they would discount the $750 price of the replacement. Long story short, I ended up talking to 5 different people at Panasonic whose management was rude and unsympathetic, I suggested $100 credit towards the replacement out of good will would make me feel better since they knew this unit could not be repaired when they sent me to the service center. I was told Panasonic doesn't do things like that. So much for customer appreciation. I've read plenty of posts of similar experiences, if an $8100 TV only lasts 4 years does that mean their new TV's selling for $800 will work just long enough for the warranty to expire!! Buyer Beware and stay away from Digital Service Solutions too who wouldn't even bother to return my call!!!!

Not a 1080p

Discussion of Vizio VO32OE 32" LCD TV

Posted 2 months ago - The line on the original screen seems to be incorrect. If you check the specs, it is a 768p. I found one in a box at a local store and the box indicated 768. So beware before you buy anything! I did not purchase one as I want the better resolution of a 1080.

My problem with this Pricegrabber deal

Discussion of 537H 37" LCD TV

Posted 1 year ago - This is an old model.. it won the 2006 award which means it's at least 2 years old. It's cheap, but I wouldn't recommend buying old technology, HD television video quality has improved substantially every year, especially LCD TVs. Perhaps more importantly, it is not true HD. The resolution on this TV is 1366 x 768, which means it cannot display full 1080i resolution picture. It will show it, but it'll have to downconvert the pixel-count to match the TV resolution. Full HD is 1920x1080 pixels. Also, the 8ms response time isn't great. Ghosting may be a problem. Then again, it is quite cheap. Your call..

LG vs Hitachi

Discussion of Plasma & LCD TVs

Posted Apr 9, 2008 - I recently purchased a 50" LG that was on backorder - when I went to check on the status they informed me that the LG was discontinued and that they was not a replacement. I was offered a 50" Hitachi P50H401 that was a $100 more. I have now found out that there is a new LG that will be available within a week. I am trying to decide which to go with - does anyone have any pros or cons on either one that they can share?

TME FOR A RECALL

Discussion of Plasma & LCD TVs

Posted Mar 6, 2008 - I purchased new - 32" SHARP AQUOS LC-32D40U - From Best Buy in July 2006. By June 2007, the TV had intermittant issues of losing the picture while still having audio. Sharp sent a technician to my home whom replaced most of the internal components while still under 1 yr warranty. The set still didnt work all the time. If I turned the TV off and back on, sometimes I would regain the picture. I had cable co inspect and test lines. They were 5x5. Sharp replaced the NEW TV with a remanufactured one in Sept 07 but only gave me a 3 month warranty. Now some 2 months out of warranty, this set has the same exact problem. Now SHARP refuses to repair or replace this piece of junk they replaced the other one with ! TIME FOR A RECALL FOR THIS PRODUCT !!!!!!!!!!

Compare the various Sony Bravia 40" LCD TVs

Discussion of Plasma & LCD TVs

Posted Feb 9, 2008 - Can anyone help me understand the key differences between the various models of the Sony Bravia Hi-Def LCD TVs? I'd really like to know how the models compare and contrast so that I can make an informed decisions as to which is best for me. I see many reviews describing each individual model. But I can't seem to find any discussions that compare the various models. The six models I know of follow together with their prices in Canadian Dollars. At the time of this post, the Canadian Dollar was valued at roughly the same value as the US Dollar. KDL40S3000 - $1500 - sale price - $1200 KDL40D3000 - $1800 - sale price - $1300 KDL40V2500 - $1700 - sale price - $1500 KDL40V3000 - $2000 - sale price - $1600 KDL40W3000 - $3200 - sale price - $1700 KDL40XBR4 - $2700 - sale price - $2100

PAL tuner

Discussion of Plasma & LCD TVs

Posted Dec 30, 2007 - I wish to invest in a high end television - maybe a SONY Bravia XBR or so in the US. However, my company may be transferring me to India shortly. Although its NTSC playback system here, its PAL system in India. Are these televisions compatible with the PAL system as well? Is there a way to add the PAL tuner to these televisions to view while in India?

Pioneer PDP-4360HD 43" is the same as Pioneer PDP-436PG ?!?

Discussion of Plasma & LCD TVs

Posted Aug 21, 2007 - I´ve bought the latter, which also has a display size of 43", and by reading the specs it´s basically the same (as far as I know), except that the mount is round on top instead of rectangular as the photo shows. Great piece of technology. But contrary to what I´ve read about the PDP-4360HD model, my PDP-436PG tuner (which isn´t built-in, also) can´t find any air-channels, possibly because I´m in 3rd-world South America.

DO NOT BUY LG PRODUCTS

Discussion of Plasma & LCD TVs

Posted Jun 25, 2007 - My LCD died after just 3 months. I have had the set out for repair since April and there is no sign of me getting a replacement anytime soon. The 32LC2D model I had is discontinued and the new 32LC7D is not available yet. LG customer service is non existent. Once they have your money they could care less about service. I have spent several hours on the phone with customer service and all they keep doing is making excuses and transferring you to different people. Do yourself a favor and STAY FAR AWAY FROM LG.

Remote sensitivity & Auto-scanning

Discussion of Westinghouse LTV-27w6 27" LCD TV

Posted Apr 12, 2007 - My remote suffered from EXTREME non-sensitivity (NO...not a Dr.Phil question.!!:)) ...so often I would have to re-enter a command 3-4 times before it would register...even with NEW batteries...and EVEN holding the remote within inches of the IR-'eye'...during my programming dilema (next paragraph)...I did a 'factory reset'; which didn't help my programming problem... but NOW the remote works fine..!! Even the Westinghouse tech had NO idea why this should help... but it does..!! ............................................................~~~~~~~~ I cannot get my 27w6 to correctly auto-program digital channels... it programs all 105 cable-channels; including regular, & HD premium stuff (HBO, etc)... but it WILL not program my HD-network channels... like 8-1, 8-2, 13-1...etc. It is NOT a signal issue, & even tech-support has no clue. Anybody have similar problems.??

Costco 52" Sharp Aquos LCD is a different model number.

Discussion of Sharp AQUOS LC-52D62U 52" LCD TV

Posted Mar 8, 2007 - Does anyone know the difference between the Costco version of this TV (LC-60C52U) and the LC-52D62U that other stores carry? The Costco version has a different looking base, which looks fine, but I am concerned that it may be an older model.

Sharp Customer Service

Discussion of Sharp AQUOS LC-52D62U 52" LCD TV

Posted Mar 3, 2007 - I purchased a Sharp LC-37d90u TV in January and the unit failed within a month. This can happen. Three months later I am still waiting for Sharp to replace the unit. Before you purchase a Sharp product you should know that their customer service--and it seems like in the course of the probably thirty phone calls I've made to try to resolve my problem I've talked to their entire staff--is a disgrace. Starting with the fact that the average time it takes to actually begin to speak with someone who can address your problem is about twenty minutes on hold. Lies, unreturned phone calls, inane excuses and a deeply felt unconcern about fixing the problem. They finally offered to return my money--in two months; the world's largest manufacturer of LCD TV's did not have a single television they could send me. They make a decent product. But if something goes wrong you will regret your purchase.
