Weakness: The new design does not allow the cleaner to clean more than about 1/3 of the walls. It is a little heavier and the intake hole is about 10% larger. This reduces it's ability to climb to the top.
I purchased my first Hayward Ultra Vac in 1999 and when it was time to purchase a new one I did not hesitate to replace it. However, I was very disappointed to find that the new design did not allow it to clean to the top of the pool as the older design did. Reason given to me, was that the older model would sometimes climb to far up the wall and suck air into the lines. While that is true, that problem could be corrected by adjusting the pressure from Maximum to a little less than Maximum. After two new cleaners I returned the units and my money was refunded. I am thankful for that, but now I am afraid I won't be able to find a cleaner as good as the older model Ultra Vac.
I still believe the Ultra is the best cleaner - except that it no longer cleans the entire walls as the older model.
