Strengths:Low cost, nice design that somewhat matches the iPod, firewire interface, so it allows connection through a variety of iPod accessories.
Weaknesses:Cheap feeling plastic, compared to the iPod, atleast. Included cable feels little cheap as well. But not surprising considering the price
Posted Sep 30, 2004 - Overall, I would rate this a 5 in terms of function, and a 4 in terms of quality, and would probably give a 4.5 overall. It is a very well-thought out product. Unlike other iPod car chargers (at least the ones I have seen), there is NO fixed or proprietary cable coming out of the chargers that attaches to the iPod. There is a simple 6-pin female firewire socket. The benefit here is that you can use this charger with older generations of the iPod, and/or concurrently use it with other iPod accessories.
For example, I like to use the line out of the iPod and use my own amp when using headphones, whether at home or in the car. At home it is not an issue since I can use the iPod dock and use the line out and also charge at the same time. But while in the car, I would like to charge the iPOd on long trips, and also want to use the line out when I use the cassette car adapter. I use Sik's Din to be able to use the line out, but the POwerPod's firewire interface allows me to also charge the iPod when I am using the Sik Din. Even Sik's car-charger solution is not this elegant and flexible.
Bottom line, I highly recommend this charger over other designs as it does it's job and allows you the flexibility to use other peripherals while using the iPod in the car.
