2.0-channel - MPN: INMOTION
Strengths: Size, great sound, Power consumpion, uses AA Batteries.
Weakness: It has no major weeknesses at all.
The in motion is a clever folding design integrating the amplifier and protecting the speakers when not in use also making it extremely portable. The bass from this is much better than I expected from the 1 inch drivers but if you like music dependent on low bass “thump” without much tonal range or detail as some rap and dance music is this may not be for you and I suggest listening before purchasing. For me the bass is audible and the in-motion gets load enough to fill an average size room and be herd over talking without distorting. The midrange is surprisingly good and the high end is detailed without being overly or unbearably harsh, dispersion is ok to. The sound is amazing for 1 inch drivers and I must complement the designers of this ingenious folding design.
The only thing I would change is have a plastic plug for the vertical I-pod dock connection that’s exposed and put the controls on the side instead of top, the reason is the in-motion has a very low profile and if a glass of liquid is knocked over near by the splash may find it’s way right into the circuitry via the top controls. This may sound unlikely but I’ve seen a really nice learning remote control meet its end this way, another thing is I would put a grill over the drivers, I can see someone accidentally picking the In-motion up with a finger pressing one of the drivers but being a little careful should take care of that.
The bottom line is-I like the in motion it sounds clear and detailed and has enough bass for me and I intend to use it outside. If you want something ultra portable that has good clear sound it has no equal as of yet making this the thing to get!

TopStrengths: Sound is excellent. The bass is outstanding for such a small unit. I have had professional musicians, engineers and composers listen to this unit and every one of them was blown away.
Weakness: Doesn't hold my mini properly, but I think they fixed this.
I have owned this unit for 18 months. I have used it in business presentations, (I'm an audio producer). I have used while renovating my house. I have dropped it, painted it, and covered it in sawdust. The chrome housing is bent, I broke off the tab that stops it from opening too far, (it now rattles when I shake it), and I have generally abused the poor thing. But it still sounds perfect. I feel guilty about how I've treated it actually.

TopStrengths: Size and ease of use and ability to rechage the battery.
Weakness: Bass can be a little weak.
This a a great space saver for the ability to play you Ipod anywhere. The portability is outstanding, also has pretty good sound for the size of it. And as long as it is plugged in and the Ipod gets a battery charge when in the unit.

TopStrengths: small, portable footprint runs on batteries or included wall adapter powers ipod when using wall adapter good sound
This is a great speaker system to suplement the ipod. It can also be used with mp3 players and other devices with a headphone jack. The unit is very portable, comes with battery and 120v power options and sounds great!

TopStrengths: Perfect design. Great portability and the sound is beautiful and full.
Weakness: Pricey.
A perfect fit for my IPOD, XM Satellite radio and laptop (for music and DVDs). The sound and portability is great. An example of excellent design - pleasing in all respects.

TopStrengths: The speakers have an excellent sound quality for their size and they work extremely well with the iPod. Particularly good for use while on the road.
Weakness: I have found no obvious weaknesses or problems. It would probably be even better however if I had an iPod remote. The alarm clock function is very good.
I have been very pleased with this purchase and would recommend it to others. I do a fair bit of travelling and the speakers are ideal for bringing your music into a hotel room.

TopStrengths: This is the perfect match to go with your iPod! The fit is perfect... and for little speakers - these boys rock!
Weakness: I have no complaints about this product.
I don't know about you... but it seems like it is hard to find accessories that are of any quality or work well with Apple's iPod (not to mention the outrageous price they charge for those items). This little gem is an execption to that myth. I cannot believe the great sound that these little speakers produce! Granted, it isn't a Bose sound system... but for little travel speakers, they are by far the best I have ever heard. And for this price, you can't go wrong. Enjoy your iPod, now, without your headphones!

TopStrengths: Compact size, iPod integration, Flexibility, Good looks.
Weakness: Lacks pasive line-out jack.
Overall I was very pleased with this device. The sound is surprising louder then you would expect from the size of the device. Since sound perception is such a subjective issue, I would suggest checking the item out in person and giving it a test drive with your own device and music before buying. My only nit was the device lacked a passive line-out jack that is present on the dock. I wanted this device to replace my dock so I ended up adding this capability myself (Sold dock on ebay to help pay for it). Solid soldering skills are required to perform this modification.

TopStrengths: Price, stylish, small size, surprisingly crisp sound
Weakness: Volume could be louder
My debate was between purchasing this much cheaper system versus the IM3 that was released at $179. Based on reviews and research, the IM3 had more of a muffled sound than this system but had a remote and a more sleek design. Either way it did not justify the $80 price difference. If you are a serious audiophile, you may want to pursue the Bose system at MSRP of $299. If you are interested in good sound but also portability for traveling, then this baby is your best bet.

TopStrengths: Perfect design for the IPod, well-integrated and thought out, unexpectedly good sound and volume.
Weakness: Price, but it will come down just like the IPod itself.
I didn't expect that the sound would be that good, but it certainly packs a wallop for such a tiny package. Sooo lightweight, and it comes with a cool cover for transport too. These guys must have worked directly with the Apple IPod guys to get it right like they did. Highly recommended, but only as a portable solution, not as a replacement for a more permanent home setup, because there are actually cheaper solutions out there (JBL Creatures) that cost as much (or even less) and do sound better, but are certainly not close to being as portable as this beauty is.

TopStrengths: It does what it's supposed to do & does it well.
Weakness: It's a small one: I worry about the speakers (cones) getting hit w/ something and tearing. Hey, I'm taking this thing out & about so it could happen.
This is what I like about inMotion: It does what it's supposed to do. You'd think that wouldn't be a big deal, but it is. It's loud when using batteries and the sound is clear & crisp.
I also like that it gives me some options. I can take it with me and use it with batteries, I can plug it in & use it with my Mac as a doc (it will charge) & if I hooked it up to the Mac I could use it as my speakers too. In addition if you want to use this with a CD/Minidisc/Walkman/mp3 player you get a stereo 1/8" jack to attach it. Plus, if you have an older non-docking iPod it will work too with the adapter & chords they provide.

TopStrengths: Multi-function! Serves as iPod speakers, PC or walkman speakers, iPod dock and charger. Great sound, compact.
Weakness: None.
The Altec Lansing inMotion is an amazing product. It sounds as good or better than speakers three times its size, and folds up even smaller for travel. I use it on my desk hooked up to my PC, as speakers and an iPod dock, and I take it on the road to listen to my iPod. Couldn't be happier with it!

TopStrengths: Very good sound for its size, portable
Weakness: A bit pricy, wouldn't you agree
With this product, you are really paying for the look. If you don't care about that, or you have no one to look at it, then just purchase ordinary computer speakers that will cost you much less. Overall, I am very stisfied with this product.

The fantastic popularity of Apple’s iPod has led to the introduction of a wide variety of peripherals designed to complement its sleek contours, including add-on audio systems (amplified speaker systems) from Bose, JBL, and Altec Lansing. This review focuses on one of the less expensive speaker options, the Altec Lansing inMotion Portable Sound System.

Strengths: Awesome quality from such tiny portable speakers- "Nothing compares 2 U"
Weakness: ? ? ? ? ?- Can't think of any?
STOP- If you have money to burn=$179, then wait and get the NEWEST version that is out/coming out. Imotion3-same as this one BUT with a remote control. How bloody cool is that??? I am going to use mine for a while, wait for the other to come down in price and then give my older non-remote version to a friend or something...
