Strengths:

Low Cost Solution for Portable Sound | Comes in a Case with Pouch for MP3 Devices

Poor Quality Sound Output | Sound is Simply not Loud Enough

Posted 1 year ago - The single biggest positive is the incredibly convenient case that the speakers are housed in. The case comes with a built-in pouch for the MP3 device so you can simply ‘strap it in’, providing ample protection for your MP3 devise. Unfortunately, that saving grace cannot make up for the poor sound quality and the volume just isn’t enough for most listeners, it is just far too soft and muggy.

Strengths:

Convenience, Stylish, Storage for flash player

Weaknesses:

So so audio quality, unacceptable QC

Posted 1 year ago - Sounds ok, convenience cannot be beat. Storage for holding your flash player is appreciated. However sound quality is just acceptable (remember you are paying very little for this) I purchased two units both of which arrived DOA. However Kensington support was very quick to issue replacements. So service has to be lauded. But I would not recommend this based on this spotty QC alone. There are much better alternatives

3 Star Review FX300 Big convenience in a small Package !

Strengths:

Small Portable size , Batteries last , Good design , Case protects my MP3 player .

Weaknesses:

Sound is not too loud before it starts to get distorted .

Posted May 29, 2008 - Kensington has made FX300 to a real solid "portable" speaker . The overall product design is good . However , it is only good if you are the only one listening to it in a comparatively silent place . Do not expect too much bass or other fine points from this gadget . The case looks neat , and if your MP3 player is small , then there is ample of room to store other things in it as well . Overall i liked it .

Posted May 27, 2008 - This product is a compact design for travelers. It is easy to set up and take no space. Also it is a protection for my iphone. Sound quality is fair. Good product anyway.

Strengths:

Speakers do the job of cover as well

Don't expect exceptional sound, you get what you are paying for

Posted May 12, 2008 - They sound pretty OK, provide nice protection for your player as well. But I guess Kensington has lot of quality issues with it but their customer service is pretty good at handling any issues. They promptly sent me a replacement without asking too many questions. These speakers are perfect if you want to listen to music outside where there is no power point and you don't want to /can't use headphones.

Strengths:

It is very easy to set it up, to use it.

Weaknesses:

I am not satisfied of the quality of the product which I brought. The sound is pretty low.

Posted May 8, 2008 - The box looks a little clumsy that I see it in the photo. But the idea is great. I have been looking forward to listening to the ipod without earbuds. If it works great, I will be very enjoyable. Waiting for the product's quality upgrade, I will recommend my friend to have one.

4 Star Review Decent Accessory for your MP3 Player

Strengths:

Sturdy case, battery-powered speaker, storage space inside case.

Weaknesses:

Not exactly aesthetically pleasing. Funky design for the off/on/volume knob.

Posted May 2, 2008 - This type of accessory (portable battery-powered speaker) can prove useful for those who don't like earbuds/headphones and for those who want to share their music while on the go. The speaker itself is of equivocal quality, but you can't expect much for a battery-powered tiny speaker. The case is sturdy but kind of ugly, but I suppose some might find the appearance nice. Most importantly, the device works as designed and as advertised. If you're looking for this type of device, this is the one to pick up.

4 Star Review Good Product For The Price

Strengths:

Posted May 1, 2008 - Overall this product is great for the price. The speaker is handy for small room or places you want to enjoy your personal music. I got this from buy.com and unlike others complaining about the battery casing, I never had issues. It worked like right from day one. The bass is on the lower side, but you cannot expect such things from a compact speaker. We take this little box along when ever we go to beach or park. We tried our Zune and Creative MP3 players and both worked without any issue. So I recommend for the price..

3 Star Review Good Concept / Bad Execution

Strengths:

Would have been awesome if it had worked. Got a lemon, no support from Buy.com, good support from kensington. The second piece worked fine, good sound but not awesome.

Weaknesses:

Hard to trust the product. Sound ok, there is no big bang but can't expect much for this price.

Posted Apr 28, 2008 - Kensington support is fast and good. They replaced mine pretty fast. The product itself is pretty basic, but good for the price you pay. Awesome concept. I am using a Sansa with it and the sound is pretty good. Would recommend for this price. Just ordered my second one.

Posted Apr 28, 2008 - Purchased from Buy.com on special and received today. Was surprised to find it fit the Zune perfect as I had purchased one on ebay sometime ago, and it was too small for the Zune, and didn't have outside volume controls, which is a big plus for this item. Had to adjust the volume on Zune first before I could use the controls on case, but it had great sound and will be great for outdoor and beach activities.

2 Star Review Two Lemons Out of Three Players

Strengths:

--Sound is acceptable for a speaker of this size --Doubles as a carrying case (good option for the beach or travel) --Battery life is good --Priced low

Weaknesses:

--Quality control on these units is not impressive --Sound muffled when player is used zipper-closed --Mp3 player not accessible when it is housed inside case (but large volume knob is)

Posted Apr 21, 2008 - I purchased two of these players. One was DOA on arrival. Buy.com directed me to Kensington online support. In less than 10 hrs, emailed me asking for my address/phone. They immediately shipped out a new set at no cost to me and told me to dispose of the defective unit by writing "defective" on it and tossing it out (no need to return) Unfortunately the second unit I received was also a lemon. This time, however, by placing a small piece of paper in the battery compartment in order to secure the battery connection, I was able to fix the short circuit. In summary, my first player had no sound; my replacement had a bad battery connection which I fixed. Overall the concept was great, but the execution not-so-hot. Where is the quality control, Kensington? I am highly impressed with Kensington customer service even though this product needs better quality control.

Posted Apr 20, 2008 - This device works fine. The batteries last a long time. The case protects my iPod from damage. I can take it to the beach or share with my friends anytime I choose to. I highly recommend, but keep in mind some are having these arrive DOA. Kensington is replacing them no questions asked!

Strengths:

It is small. It fits all of my i-pod, ipod nano and mp3. It is only 10 dollars.

Weaknesses:

It is not stereo. The sound quality is not so good, no bass. There is no ipod control button outside the case.

Posted Mar 25, 2008 - It is Kensington product. The brand means everything expecially for electronic product. It looks much better than in the pictures. I was surprised by the loudness of the speaker although you cannot locate where exactly the speaker is. easy to handle. Just put two batteries in and turn on the button on the top, connect your MP3 or MP4 and that's it. There is only one shortage: the mannal is not helpful. There is an index light in green but I failed to turn on the speaker for the first couple of hours. The batteries were not dead I was pretty sure. I was so frustrated at first hand. Such a good product but cannot work. I hated to throw it away and hoped it will suddenly work. It did. After a few hours I still had obssession of it and changed to another two batteries and suddenly the greenlight lit and the speaker started working! I figured it out later that on the top of it there is a sign, the same sign on your cellphone to turn on/turn off. At first I just totally ignore it. I guessed I touched the sign by accident and make it work. it was waired because they have a button to turn on and off the speaker how come they put another touch button there? So when you get the product, make sure you press that button if the speaker did not work when you turn on the button. It was a great buy.
