Your Zune is ideal when you're on the go. But when you're hanging around the house, wouldn't it be great to fill the room - any room - with incredible sound? Introducing the Altec Lansing M604 powered audio system. It's the complete package: Striking good looks, plus rich, clear sound from its four custom-designed speakers. What's more, the M604 is surprisingly affordable, so you can still send the kids to college. Just place your Zune into the M604's built-in dock and enjoy. minimize

4 Star Review Overall Pretty Good

Strengths:

Decent sound, not bad looking.

Weaknesses:

none yet

Posted Dec 20, 2007 - This thing is great!!! Who needs a stereo when you have this. I find it nice to look at and to listen to. For the price I paid I am very happy with this. I didn't find it hard to set up but I suppose that some people might. Would buy another but money is a little tight this time of year.

3 Star Review Altec Lansing M604 for Zune

Strengths:

Good sound quality, small size, portable.

Weaknesses:

The steps you have to go thru to power it up. Remote does not control menu on Zune unit.

Posted Nov 28, 2007 - All in all a nice unit to use to get room filling sound from your Zune. As mentioned, the powering up procedure must be done in the order as listed. Seems like you should just be able to put the Zune in the dock, but it is not that simple. Suggest that you might read other reviews before purchasing to get both the pluses and minuses.

2 Star Review M604 Speakers for Zune

Strengths:

The speaker system is small enough to fit in tight spaces.

Weaknesses:

The low sound could use some improvement.

Posted May 23, 2007 - The setup of this system was a little hectic to say the least but eventually I was able to complete setup. I was surprised that the sound from this system is weak and can only be heard in the room where placed. I am seeking a way to connect the system to other speakers.

4 Star Review Has its good point and bad points...

Strengths:

Narrow compact size. Wall Mountable Price

Weaknesses:

Controls are hard to master. Bass and Treble controls don't do much.

Posted Dec 3, 2007 - This is not a perfect unit by any means. It has both good and bad points. Positives: I think the price is very reasonable. I paid around $85.00 for this and with some of the others that I compared this unit with I thought it was pretty reasonable. The size of the unit is also a plus. It's not some giant behemoth like the JBL or Bose models. I also like the fact that this can be wall mountable. There's a coupon to get the wall mount kit in the packaging. Negatives: Yes, there are some bad points. The controls to turn the volume up or down and to adjust the Bass and Treble are difficult to adjust. There are some green lights that light up and I guess it's up to you to figure out what they are supposed to be telling you. I also didn't see any differences in the Bass and Treble when I adjusted them. No difference in the sound with them on or off. Neutral: The remote on my unit worked fine and controlled the speaker unit as well as the Zune itself. As far as the sound quality is concerned, I found that it varied but was more a product of the quality of the MP3 then the unit itself. If I had a MP3 that was of a poor sound quality I noticed it on the speaker, but if MP3 had a high bit rate it sounded great.

4 Star Review Altec Lansing does it again!

Strengths:

Great size and design. BIG, clear sound. Storage slot for remote. Perfect dock for Zune, but can be used with most any MP3 player with cable included.

Weaknesses:

Only weakness is not optionally battery operated for use when not near an electric plug like some of the other models they sell!

Posted Feb 20, 2008 - I really like this Zune docking station. Has great sound for a portable! Adjustable bass and treble. Is attractive and has some nice features, like the little slot to keep the remote in when not in use so it doesn't disappear! and the included/optional wall hanging bracket. It can also be used for any other MP3 player with the included cable that goes in earphone jack. (I have not tried this out yet!) Would recommend this to anyone who has a Zune or other MP3 player they would like to use without earphones.

4 Star Review Great quality for the low price

Strengths:

-Good base sound; crisp and clear; for small size; from low to high volume -compact/portable -works with Zune 80 after easily removing plastic base adapter -Easy setup -compatible with most other mp3

Weaknesses:

-remote: +very basic; limited features +power button turns on and off the speaker system but NOT the Zune +cannot navigate the menus

Posted Feb 13, 2008 - For the low prices for these, compared to high prices for ipod speakers such as Bose for iPod $299, this is such a great value. Got mine for under $50 and all has been worthwile. Could use an optional battery compartment for more portability.

4 Star Review Zune 604 review

Strengths:

great sound

Weaknesses:

not also battery operated

Posted Feb 3, 2008 - great speaker for the house, deck or office. The only weakness is the size makes it too large to be really protable. If your looking for something that can be folded up and is also battery operated, this is not for you. But it is a great sounding speaker if you want one that you can plug in for the house, deck or office. I would buy again.

5 Star Review Finally a nice speaker dock for the Zune

Strengths:

Nice build quality, video and sync pass throughs, included remote

Weaknesses:

Good, but not great, sound

Posted Feb 2, 2008 - There are so many choices of speaker docks for the iPod but not nearly as many for the Zune. Of course, the iPod outsold the Zune by about 100:1. After getting a 30GB Zune at an incredible price from Woot!, I jumped at the opportunity to get the Altec Lansing speakers from the same company at an equally unbelievable price. The Zune sits vertically in a dock in front of the speakers. If you want to watch a movie or video, it will be sideways, but it's a small sacrifice for having the menus upright when playing music which will of course be the primary activity when using this dock. There is a composite output on the back of the dock if you want to hook it up to a TV for viewing, although I haven't tried this feature. Controls lie on top in the silver band that goes around the perimeter of the unit. From left to right, they are power, -, +, volume, bass, and treble. The + and - buttons change the volume, bass, or treble. Green LEDs light up under the black grill indicating the level setting of the parameter under adjustment. The sound is good, but not great. You'll never confuse them with a decent pair of speakers, but they get the job done. Maximum volume is impressively high with no significant increase in distortion. The volume control on the Zune itself has no effect, unless you bring it down to minimum, at which point it mutes the speakers. Nice touch. Overall, the speakers are definitely with the money paid ($40) and highly recommended at this price.

5 Star Review Great addition to my Zune collection

Strengths:

looks, sound, remote, lights up when you change volume-treble-bass!(so you can tell from a distance where the level is), This can also be used to amplify non-Zune mp3players!

Weaknesses:

I just wish they included the free wall bracket in the box instead of me having to order it( which they are backordered now) the provided stereo mini-jack extension cord is too short, IMHO

Posted Jan 10, 2008 - reviewers; ProductTester and JackieB157 said the setup was either hectic or not simple enough. I will assume thats why they gave this a sub 4-star rating, Bah! this thing was a cream puff to start and operate. BTW they are the only reviewers that give this a sub 4-star rating...hmmm) I got mine from Buy.com for $50 shipped! don't settle for less, buy it you wont regret it, it sounds great!

5 Star Review Works with the new Zunes as well!!

Strengths:

Good sound for the price, Charges the Zune, Sync cable output, works with other mp3 players through the headphone port cable

Weaknesses:

None so far

Posted Jan 4, 2008 - I've read many reviews that say this is not compatible with the new zunes. This is far from the truth. I am using this with the new 80 gb zune and it plays and charges the device, eliminating the need for an ac adapter. You just have to pop off the cover on the dock to fit the new zunes. Good sound for a one room application. Not loud enough to fill more than a room. Sound is good until you crank it way up...but at low to medium-loud levels it is great. I would buy this product again!!!

4 Star Review Altec Lansing M604 Speakers for Zune

Strengths:

Great sound, charges Zune, remote control

Weaknesses:

High retail price. Minor bugs.

Posted Jan 3, 2008 - Before purchasing this speaker set, I was weary about the sound quality. After I got it and set it up, I was very satisfied with the sound. There are options to adjust bass and treble level. The remote control also allows you to go through songs, adjust volume, bass, and treble, and power from a distance. The only downside is that when you power off the set, it does not stop the zune or turn it off. You have to make sure to stop the song before turning the speaker set off.

4 Star Review Best Speakers for the Zune

Strengths:

Included remote, amazing sound, volume spectrum lights, charges the Zune

Weaknesses:

Can't turn off the Zune with the remote

Posted Jan 2, 2008 - This speaker dock is the best one for the Zune. Amazing, rich sound. The included remote is also a high point of this product. When you turn the volume, bass, or treble down or up with the remote, a spectrum of lights that is built into the dock appears, and visually shows you where you are on the volume spectrum. Also, this dock charges the Zune while it is docked. The only downside is that you can't turn off the Zune with the included remote. If you set a short playlist, the Zune will turn off automatically.

5 Star Review Altec Lansing Speakers for Zune

Strengths:

Great sound, easy to operate, decent bass response from a small unit!

Weaknesses:

None so far.

Posted Jan 2, 2008 - I bought this for my wife for Christmas; she's a techno-phobe, but she loves this & her new Zune. It's easy to set up; basically, just plug in the Zune, plug into the wall & go. Sound is quite good; I was very impressed with the bass, given that it's a small unit. Highly recommended!

4 Star Review Altec Lansing M604

Strengths:

Small size, adequate sound quality and is portable.

Weaknesses:

Remote does not control zune.

Posted Dec 26, 2007 - For the price I paid, $49 less additional discounts, a good deal. This system is good for places that lack a need for a sound system. The quality of the sound is dependent on the quality of your mp3 bit rate download. The higher, the better the sound. Its acceptable for my use and do recommend it for tight places.

4 Star Review MP3 Speakers

Strengths:

Good sound, remote control, Zune charger

Weaknesses:

Remote only controls volume and song choice

Posted Dec 22, 2007 - Audio sounds great. Loudness, bass and treble are controlled by the remote or on the base unit. Only the song selection on the Zune can be changed with the remote. Any MP3 player can be hooked up to the speakers. There are video out and headphone connections on the unit.
