3 Star Review Is The Pure-Fi An Improvement Over The mm50? Mostly No

Strengths:

Good sound for a portable. Slightly louder volume than the mm50. Remote can control iPod functions. Charger now fits in carry pouch.

Weaknesses:

Balky remote. Increased loudness results from emphasized midrange at the expense of balanced sound - the mm50 is more accurate. Fit and finish not quite as good as the mm50.

Posted Oct 25, 2007 - My mm50 has served well, but its one drawback for me was always having to pack the charger separately for extended trips, as it didn't fit in the carry pouch. The Pure-Fi corrects this oversight, without increasing the pouch's size dramatically (it's an inch longer). Another added feature is the remote's ability to control iPod functions. Of course, you have to be close enough to the unit to see the iPod's display, and you'll still want to use the scroll wheel to quickly browse large libraries, so the additional remote functions don't eliminate the need to work the iPod directly. Still, the remote is more useful than the mm50's. Unfortunately, I find that almost a third of the time the unit won't respond to button presses - I don't know if this is caused by a balky remote or a flaky IR receiver, but either way, it's annoying. You can use all iPods from 3G to the present by installing one of the included dock inserts. Unfortunately, the dock inserts don't fit securely, which allows a certain amount of iPod movement when using the click wheel. I'm concerned that the flexing may eventually damage the iPod's connector. Ultimately, the sound is what counts, and after extended side-by-side listening tests with the mm50 (yes, I have more than one iPod!) using a variety of program material, I have to give the nod to the mm50. While both units provide very pleasing sound, the Pure-Fi's louder volume is apparently attained by emphasizing midrange frequencies, resulting in less "air". The difference can be subtle, but I find the mm50 consistently provides more balanced and natural sound. So, for current mm50 owners, is the Pure-Fi worth it? Might be a tough call - depends on how critical a listener you are. It can produce a little more volume, which would make it better suited for use in larger rooms or outdoors compared to the mm50. (If you're not too picky about sonic accuracy, the Altec Lansing iM9 is louder and better suited for outdoor use.) If you're using it in close quarters at lower volumes, the mm50 is superior. However, for those who are looking for their first portable iPod speaker system, the Pure-Fi is definitely worth consideration.

5 Star Review Great Speakers!

Strengths:

Great sound, excellent remote, very portable.

Weaknesses:

Doesn't charge your iPod when running off of battery.

Posted Jan 18, 2008 - A very excellent speaker all around. It has very good sound for a speaker of it's size. It also has a unique remote that I often use that lets you navigate songs and menus. The remote makes this speaker even better. However on my iPod Touch the remote scrolls down two songs at a time on the menu, this issue did not happen on an iPod Nano 3rd generation.

2 Star Review Exelent sound quality, but compatability issues.

Strengths:

Sounds amazing. Can fill any room Portable and rechargeable

Weaknesses:

Sketchy remote Cuts out when plugged in to a audio jack Can recharge ipod when audio jack plugged in ipod docking pieces don't fit

Posted 1 year ago - My friend had these speakers and i just loved how they sounded for how small they were. Liked it so much that i got my own and then began to find some flaws. First was my remote stopped working after 2 days. I tried replacing the battery but it still will not work. Also i couldn't seem to get the plastic ipod holder pieces to snap in all the way. But these didn't really bother me at all. When i moved into my dorm this fall i decided it would be cool to set these speakers on my desk and take advantage of the audio jack in the back so i could have better sound quality without having to buy a desktop speaker set and plug it into my Macbook. Everything works except it goes on these cycles of cutting out. For almost an hr at a time, it will continue to cut out about every min to 2 min consistently. I have to fiddle with the computer volume to get them to respond and turn back on( By bringing up the volume at least 3 clicks before i hear the speakers start up and respond). But overtime it will work fine and not cut out at all (for example right now its playing music fine, but about 30 min ago i had to mess with the volume to get them to respond on 7 separate occasions. I didn't do anything different all 7 times. It just eventually worked again.). And this only happens when plugged into a power outlet and hooked into my mac book with a basic audio jack (3.5 mm i think? just like headphone jacks for ipods. ) I also tried replacing the audio extension cable and bought a better quality cable, but still have the same problem ruling out a short in the wire. Ive concluded that what the speakers are doing are turning themselves off. When they cut out, the power symbol is still lit, but this is because it will always be lit when plugged into a power outlet. And its also not short in the power cable that causes it to turn of b/c ive tried unplugging it while music is playing through my computer, and it will continue to play. And still does when power is plugged back in. Ive pretty much tried everything to figure out what the issue is and have run out of ideas. And it also cant be the computer b/c headphones do not cut out when plugged in like the speakers. ( so if you have an idea let me know) Also music cannot play through the audio jack when an ipod is plugged in. And you cant play your ipod if an audio jack is in. Its like they cancel each other out and make the speakers unless. I tried this b/c i wanted to us it a charging station for my ipod when using itunes on my computer (i would use the ipod but its a hassle to reach up and change the song b/c i don't have a working remote anymore) but it wont even charge it either. But i guess these are understandable b/c the main use of these speakers are intended for ipod use and the audio port was like an added bonus. (probable didn't get a lot of attention from the developers; more like something they slapped on at the last min in my opinion. Would i buys these again? Probable not b/c of the broken remote, audio port flaws, and the other various issues Ive run into with compatibility. But if you are just looking for some really good speakers for use with an ipod only, I would recommend these to anyone for the incredible sound quality that gives this full and almost three denominational sound when the pure-fi is switched on.

5 Star Review Pure-Fi Anywhere Speakers for iPod

Strengths:

Look, portability, adapters, remote

Weaknesses:

PRICE, doesn't charge.

Posted 1 year ago - If found at a good price then these are some of the best portable speakers in looks and sound quality. I purchased this product at a low price (price mistake?) and i think i got a steal. The sound is very good for portable speakers though wish it had better bass. Also wish it would had been a little shorter. All the adapters to fit all your ipods are included. Don't hesitate to purchase this product if you are in need of portable speakers for your ipod(s).

Strengths:

1. portable and truly anywhere speaker 2. great remote 3. good sound quality

Weaknesses:

1. volume is low on battery

Posted 1 year ago - It's a great portable speaker for all iPod lovers. It has all kinds enclosures to fit from the oldest to the latest models. Truly anywhere speaker with battery time up to 6 hours. Only takes couple of hours to charge. It comes with a cool remote too. Only complain is that the volume is kinda low when running on battery. Overall, you won't regret going with this portable speaker.

5 Star Review Pure-Fi makes a GREAT travel companion

Strengths:

Size, built-in rechargeable batteries, remote

Weaknesses:

Not heavy on bass, but can adjust to some extent with iPod tone settings

Posted 1 year ago - The Pure-Fi has now made a couple of trips with me and I will have to say it has meet all my expectations. The size even with the included case are easy to pack and take up very little room. The sound is generous even thought the bass is lacking to some degree. The controls are easy to understand, although I did find the buttons on the unit itself somewhat hard to press. Hopefully they will free up over time and become easier to use. The remote is also a nice feature and I find I use it more than I really expected to. Overall a very nice portable sound system for the iPod.

5 Star Review Nice Portable Speakers for Apple iPods

Strengths:

Great sound, comes with an AC adapter, can be used with other MP3 devices

Weaknesses:

The size is somewhat large to be really portable

Posted 1 year ago - I have been using these speakers for just over a month, and I am very satisfied with them. They are the best portable speakers I have ever owned. The sound is great, and the bass is more than adequate. I also like the fact that the product came with an AC adapter and a remote control. It also can be used with other MP3 devices. The only complaint I may have with the product is the size and weight. It is somewhat large and heavy for a portable set of speakers.

5 Star Review Great!

Strengths:

Good Sound, Battery Life, Looks, Compatibility

Weaknesses:

None

Posted 1 year ago - Overall these speakers are amazing. After rebates I only paid $15 (which is far below MSRP). It plays from my Ipod, Sandisk E280 and Iphone just fine. Can play with 2 or 4 speakers and off battery or line in. They are very loud for their size and I was impressed with battery life.

5 Star Review Excellent product

Strengths:

good sound. carrying case. remote. recharheable battery

Weaknesses:

maybe price

Posted 1 year ago - It sounds better than most other similarly-sized iPod speaker systems. The rechargeable battery provides better than 8 hours of playing time and has a battery-life indicator. When it's plugged into the wall it can play music and recharge your iPod simultaneously. The wireless remote control also offers controls for the iPod menus so you can browse and select items remotely. Finally, both remote and speakers offer a button for "Stereo XL," which Logitech claims "dramatically widens the sound field." Th eprice is little high, but bottomline is it os worth the price.

4 Star Review Logitech Pure Fi Anywhere

Strengths:

Sleek, esthetics.

Weaknesses:

Battery Life.

Posted 1 year ago - Sound is great for small speakers. Nice, shiny and sleek appearance. Speakers seemed to shut down on its own every 5 minutes but resetting has corrected this problem, I think.

4 Star Review Logitech Pure-fi Anywhere

Strengths:

Form factor, Visual Appeal, Logitech Brand Name, Remote Control, high quality and stylish carrying case

Weaknesses:

Glossy finish, limited speaker range, loss of fidelity on higher volumes

Posted 1 year ago - 1. Excellent to look at 2. Remote range is acceptable 3. Sound quality acceptable at low to mid volumes 4. Loss of fidelity at high volumes 5. Boomy bass as opposed to tight bass (but then thats expecting too much for this price) 6. Glossy black surface susceptible to smudges and finger prints 7. acceptable recharging times for inbuilt battery 8. very stylish carrying case 9. Universal voltage adapter makes it easier to use across the world. 10. All iPod adapters included Logitech has come to be associated with high quality and most bang for the buck peripherals and popular accessories. And the Pure-fi is no different in this philosophy although if I have to pick, this one rules more by virtue of visual appeal than performance. There are better performers but not at this price. Carry on, Logitech

4 Star Review Decent sound for the price!

Strengths:

Good sound (for the price), Compact, Works with iPhone and most iPods

Weaknesses:

Remote is a little flakey, Non-replaceable battery?? Who makes this, Apple??

Posted 1 year ago - Logitech routinely offers rebates for this (and most of their other products..), so you can pick it up for pretty cheap. The biggest negative about this product is the non-replaceable lithium battery... These always make me a little worried about how useful this will be to me when the battery eventually dies. Overall I would definitely purchase this product again and recommend it to anyone looking for a similar product.

4 Star Review Pure-Fi Anywhere Speakers for iPod

Strengths:

Great sound quality, excellent speaker

Weaknesses:

na

Posted 1 year ago - This is a Good portable speaker for my ipod. It has great sound quality when you use the "3 d" bottom. Once you charge with full battery, it stays long time. .I only need to charge it once a week. The only concern I have is -the size of the speaker. If it can be smaller and lighter, it will be a almost perfect aperaker to me!

4 Star Review Decent sound in a complete easy to travel with package.

Strengths:

Portable, Finish, Sound Quality, Remote, Included AC Adapter that fits IN the carry case.

Weaknesses:

Adapters could be better fitting. Finish is a fingerprint magnet.

Posted 1 year ago - Decent sound from a portable sound solution is what I was looking for. This unit comes in a nice case that also houses the AC Adapter. To me this is a huge plus for travelling. Sound quality is decent enough and the volume for me is more than sufficient. This is a little larger unit than I would normally travel with but the sound quality makes it worthwhile to bring along if I am checking a bag. The actual unit is very nice with a piano black finish which is a magnet for fingerprints, dust and scratches. For the price paid (not even close to retail) and with logitech's excellent rebate service this was an outstanding purchase.
