Strengths:Very good looking. Colors to match most Ipods available, except Gold. Decent quality. Coolness factor.
Weaknesses:Might wear out with time. Not sold separately. Not the cheapest sock ever.
Posted May 13, 2005 - I bought these pretty soon after they came out and have been using it since to protect my Ipod when it's not in use. It is a good-looking product and matches well (I use the grey sock for my silver Ipod mini). It seems to protect against scratching when I have it in my bag, but I don't know how well it will protect it if dropped. It's not a hard case so it's definitely not the maximum protection one can get.
The biggest drawback is that I had to buy six socks when I really only wanted one or two (I also kept orange, GO GIANTS!). My solution was to sell the remaining four socks on Ebay and I was fortunate to get at least $5.00 back on average to cover my original costs. I don't expect one could profit per sock on Ebay with these though. Another concern is wear and tear. Since it is a material product versus solid item, I would expect fraying and normal wear to be a factor. So far, mine's in good shape. I do try to be careful when placing the Ipod in the sock though, so as not to stretch out teh elastic on top like a regular sock for your feet.
I recommend this product for those wanting a good looking accessory to match and store your Ipod Mini. I do not recommend it for people needed hardcore protection from impacts.
