4 Star Review Meets all expectations

Strengths:

Charges easily all full size iPods (4Gen and later), 2Gen mini, and Shuffle

Weaknesses:

Cost, not included with full size iPod (5Gen video)

Posted Nov 4, 2005 - I've had a shuffle for a while, and never purchased this charger, as I could always charge it through my powered USB2 hub if the computer wasn't on. But I just recently bought a 5G (video) iPod and, although I wasn't surprised, it didn't come with this adapter. Since the battery life for video can be short, and thought I might have the need to power the iPod away from the computer. An added bonus is that I can charge my shuffle as well with it. Also note, if you have enabled disk mode with a shuffle, the light continually blinks orange when charging, never turning green to indicate a complete charge, if it is not "ejected" from Windows. The shuffle also blinks orange with USB hubs, never letting you know when it's done (you have to estimate, 3-4 hours for full charge.) However, with this Apple adapter, it WILL tell you when it is complete, whether or not you have enabled disk mode. Nothing special to note about its features when charging a full size iPod, except that you must have your USB/dock connector cable with you to plug it into the adapter. Airport Express will also charge any iPod this adapter does, but I don't want to carry around this $100+ device for charging. The same flaw noted with the shuffle and powered USB2 hubs mentioned above, however, is present in this situation. Shuffle only users: Rethink this purchase -- how often are you actually going to be away from your computer and how often do you actually charge it now? Yes, I'm happy, but I think the cost is a bit high, even with my 10% academic discount from Apple. Not absolutely necessary for everybody. Perhaps I could have gone with a generic alternative, but would be slightly worried that it could blow up or something, and I also have some of Apple international adapter plugs that work well with this adapter. In other words, the Apple white always looks cool...

5 Star Review iPod USB Power Adapter

Strengths:

well made, white, does not take much space on power strip,

Weaknesses:

white, no cable, expensive

Posted Mar 15, 2007 - Very happy with adapter. Well made, white, does not take much space on power strip. I like white. Using it to power external 2.5" Hard drive. Apple products usually work better than most manufacturers.

4 Star Review iPod USB Power Adapter

Strengths:

Lightweight. Portable. Able to purchase different plugs for foreign country use.

Weaknesses:

Shape could be different to reduce the distance the unit sticks out from the outlet.

Posted Jul 7, 2005 - This is a nice add-on for the iPod. The power adapter is lightweight and portable, making it great for travel when you won't have computer access. The shape is the only real drawback. If you have a tight space where you want to keep it plugged in, you may be disappointed. The unit does stick out from the outlet further than most AC/DC converters. Take it along, if your car is equipped with an outlet, to play music on long car trips.

1 Star Review I can't believe I had to pay for this

Strengths:

It works, that's about it

Weaknesses:

EXPENSIVE

Posted Oct 16, 2005 - Please tell me why we have to pay for the ability to charge our ipods? I really hate the fact that you have to pay for something so simple. All the accessories for the ipods are a ripoff. I would recommend getting a cheap belkin accessory over this. the one thing I can say about this is that it works.

4 Star Review Does what it's supposed to... Charge

Strengths:

Uses USB Cable Included with iPods

Weaknesses:

Price, Size

Posted Oct 4, 2005 - It's unfortunate that Apple doesn't include the power adapter with the iPod shuffle, the iPod nano and the newer iPod mini's... forcing users to shell out an additional $30 if they want to charge their iPods away from the computer. With that said, the product does what it's supposed to: charge. You no longer have to leave your computer on with your iPod plugged in if you want to charge it. My only complaints are that it's too pricey for something that should've been included with the iPods... and that it's moderately large when compared to chargers for other electronic devices.

5 Star Review A necessary for your iPod

Strengths:

Works great, matching my iPod color and style

Weaknesses:

Why Apply took this off the standard iPod package?

Posted Oct 28, 2005 - It's a MUST for the iPod. To me it's not an accessory, but a necessary. I have a video iPod, slim and cool looking. However the battery can't be changed, and won't last for a long time. This AC enabled me to charge the iPod wherever there's a power plug. It's not huge, and I have no problem put it in my purse and carry it with my iPod. :) I really have no complain about this product. But why Apply took this off the iPod package, and charge people $30 for a AC?

2 Star ReviewApple drops the price of the Mini Ipod, but makes ...

Strengths:

It works

Weaknesses:

Bulky, expensive, requires a different cable (included)

Posted Jun 20, 2005 - Apple drops the price of the Mini Ipod, but makes it back in accessories. If your travelling and won't have access to computer with a USB port (the only way to charge your Ipod as it's sold), you'll need to invest in a power adapter. I don't know why they call it a USB power adapter, because the USB cable that comes with the Ipod doesn't fit. You have to use the cable that comes with the adapter. That's just what I needed - another cable to keep track of.

5 Star Review compatible with ipod photo

Strengths:

It is very small and powerful for charging the ipod photo although ipod photo is a eat-power guy. The output ac is 5v 1.oA, I find it is enough to drive the mp3.

Weaknesses:

I haven't found any problem for it

Posted Jul 17, 2005 - I have bought some power adapter to charge my ipod photo mp3 because it need more power than normal ipod or mini ipod. I have a fire bull that can supply 5.2v 2.0a power, but it is not compatiable with my ipod. So I have to buy another one. Today I find it works very well with ipod photo although it only supply 5v 1.0a power. I suggest it is a better choice for guys that search for a suitable power adapter for their ipod photo.

1 Star Review iPod Adaptor - Waste of money

Strengths:

none

Weaknesses:

Lots

Posted Aug 23, 2006 - Those boys at Apple need to review things. a) Why should we pay for the privilage of charging our iPod? b) apple.com says that when you buy the adaptor, you ALSO need to but a USB 2.0 cable, to connect to the iPod docking port - ie, MORE expense. c) The cable they say you need DOES NOT FIT to the adaptor. Annoyed.

5 Star Review Genuine Apple iPod Charger

Strengths:

compact, easy to use

Weaknesses:

only charges one at a time

Posted Feb 25, 2008 - A must have if you travel with your iPod. Folding prongs are removable...they hide a port where a standard AC cord can be plugged in for added versatility...clever in an Apple sort of way!

4 Star Review the solution to iPod charging

Strengths:

charges ipod through ac power, supports usb cables, apple brand

Weaknesses:

price, no cable included, white color gets dirty easy

Posted Oct 22, 2005 - this adapter is the solution to charging your ipod, it uses the same usb 2.0 cable to charge through ac power. it's light, easy to use, and you don't have to worry about this charger affecting your ipod's because it's apple brande. it's kinda expensive at $29, because there's 3rd party chargers that cost like $15 but i believe it's better to get appple brand. great charger, works great.

4 Star Review iPod USB Power Adapter

Strengths:

not restrict to connect the iPod to the computer and style matching with it

Weaknesses:

Very Expensive for a wall charger only.

Posted Aug 23, 2005 - After purchasing my Ipod for about a month, I found it very inconvenience constantly turn on my computer to charge it. So, I finally brought the ipod USB adapter to avoid having any hassles. I think Apple should include the USB power adapter with the ipod

3 Star Review Seems pricey. Why aren't there non-Apple makers of this charger?

Strengths:

Stylish Apple design for Apple enthusiasts. No cable, really does accept the iPod USB cable.

Weaknesses:

Compared to modern cell phone chargers, could be much smaller. Can't sit flat against the wall; sticks out 2.25 inches. Apple controls the market price tightly, I still paid $29, no tax or shipping.

Posted Aug 17, 2005 - My first iPod mini (bought for Christmas 2004) came with two cables, firewire and USB, so one cable stays with the PC, one stays with the charger. To my dismay, my 2nd iPod mini (July 2005) came with USB cable only and no charger (I did not read the description closely). So, I had to buy this. And since there is only one cable, you have to keep the cable with the iPod if your PC is in one room and you charge overnight in another room. There are many 3rd party car chargers available, but I only found the Apple charger for house current, so no bargain substitutes are available. The block design is clean and right up to Apple's stylish design approach. The unit seems solid and probably could take some abuse. However, it is behind the times when it comes to options for orientation on the wall, compared to the thin cell phone chargers I have seen with rotating prongs. It takes up 2.25+ inches of depth, which could easily interfere with the surroundings. So, I have to rate it satisfactory, but there is room for improvement on price and form factor.
