2 Star Review Ok, PSU!

Strengths:

Sleek looks, heavy unit, all cords are well insulted, will run all the latest video cards, good tech support

Weaknesses:

It doesn't keep cpu tower as cool as OEM did, would be nice if it were modular, makes drive chattering much louder

Posted Mar 25, 2008 - After reading the reviews for Corsair power supplies, I could hardly wait to receive my VX 550w. The unit was priced right to deliver high performance to my new video card. Well, it worked fine and silent until day 15. Now the drive searching noise is 5 times louder. To the point, I replaced the vx550 with my stock Bestec. This of course resolved the noise issue. Why is day 15 so important, because Buy.com has a 15 day return policy.

5 Star Review This is NOT Your Aunt Milly's Value-Line PSU

Strengths:

1) High Efficiency (up to 85%); 2) 41A on a Single, Stable 12V Rail; 3) Quality Japanese Capacitors; 4) Sleeved Cables

Weaknesses:

None.

Posted Mar 13, 2008 - Others have done a thorough job of detailing the quality features of this PSU, so anything I could add in that sense might seem redundant. . What I WILL tell you is this: . I've owned Corsair's VX550W PSU for some six-months. It has faithfully powered the following system without so much as a hiccup: . MSI K9A2 Platinum Motherboard; AMD 5000+ Black Edition CPU (overclocked); Dual Radeon HD3870 Vid Cards (Crossfire Configuration); Maxtor 15K Atlas II HD; Two (2) WD6400AAKS HDs (recently added to replace two older internal drives); Pioneer DVR-115DBK CD/DVD Burner; and Seven (7) 120mm Fans controlled by a Sunbeam Rheobus Extreme. The VX550? Rock. Solid. Stable.

5 Star Review One of the best 550w power supplies available

Strengths:

high quality components, 5 year warranty, long cables, single 12v rail, 80%+ efficiency

Weaknesses:

none apparent

Posted Feb 23, 2008 - This is a great power supply, it has a 41A single 12v rail so it will provide clean, consistent power. It has a 120mm exhaust fan that is silent under all but most demanding conditions. If you put the psu under load for long periods, the fan ramps up to expel the heat and it is audible, but the sound is a low pitch and not distracting. The cables are sleeved and are long enough for bottom-mounted applications like the Antec CM690 case. Corsair's customer support is top notch. The next psu I buy will be a Corsair if they continue to provide products and services like this.

4 Star Review Great power supply for the price with a minor flaw

Strengths:

very solid power with a high 12v rail, energy friendly 80+ efficiency, alot of cables, compatible with almost all motherboards, and a 5 year warranty!!

Weaknesses:

Not as quiet as my hx620, not modular (but this was advertised so i won't count it towards the rating)

Posted Apr 18, 2008 - What can i say, i purchased one of these guys from an etailer, and while testing it outside of the case, i noticed a low buzzing noise. It turns out it was the fan making the noise and this model seems to be famous for this problem, a simple fan noise. I got 3 replacement and they all had the same noise. Besides that this is a great PSU, with great customer support system from corsair. They pretty much said they will replace my PSU until i am satisfied with the one i get at the end, but it just is too time consuming. I just left the PSU in my case, and with the fans and all, it is hard to hear the low buzzing noise unless you're right next to it. Besides that, the power supply functions just great, no problems whatsoever powering my system. In the end, it is a great power supply for the price/performace, it just isn't quiet like my hx620 but it is also almost half the price after rebates.

5 Star Review Quality build, excellent choice on price/performance ratio.

Strengths:

Rock solid performance, primary uses a Japanese capacitor, nice matte black finish, single 12v rail is rated 41A

Weaknesses:

Expensive when not on sale, but then all quality units are.

Posted Apr 5, 2008 - Sadly, many people who purchase a power supply for their computer buy the cheapest one they can find. This can be a costly mistake. All of your other expensive computer parts count upon the power supply for smooth, reliable power. A poorly made unit can damage or destroy your other parts. This Cosair VX unit is a nice compromise between quality and price. Made by Channel Well Technology (CWT), the Corsair VX550 550w Power Supply is made from quality parts and to excellent specs. I did not do any testing, other than hooking it up, but the review below did: www.circuitremix.com/i... The unit was quiet, and has a nice appearance. We were lucky and found this unit on sale. If this was at full retail price I would probably pass it up for a PC Power and Cooling unit. But if this unit is on sale then the value cannot be beat. Excellent unit, but expensive. Five stars.

5 Star Review Quiet Reliable PSU!

Strengths:

quiet, lengthy cables, # of connections, lifetime warranty

Weaknesses:

not modular

Posted Mar 9, 2008 - At first I was weary of the Corsair brand, but after reading a few reviews, it seems everyone was spot on. The feature I was looking for in a PSU was how quiet it would be due to the position of where my computer would be in my room, this PSU was inaudible to me. The length of the connections were great, I was able to reach my components in my case with ease. PSU is solid! Highly recommend! Bought another for another build.

5 Star Review Fantastic PSU

Strengths:

Quiet, Efficient, Long cables.

Weaknesses:

Haven't found one, yet.

Posted Mar 1, 2008 - This is a fantastic power supply that runs quiet and is very efficient. It can handle any load you throw at it without skipping a beat. It is very flexible due to its long cables and abundant connectors. I wouldn't hesitate to buy this for all of my future PC builds.

5 Star Review Good power supply

Strengths:

Quality build, nice packaging, relatively low noise.

Weaknesses:

Non-modular, very thick cables.

Posted Feb 29, 2008 - Having coming in knowing that this was Corsair's value line of PSU's, I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the unit and its packaging and accessories. Other than having to bend the thick cables around a little to avoid running them into my case fans, the installation was pretty much a snap. The power supply is energy efficient and relatively quiet compared to the other fans in my case. This is not a Seasonic, but I think it's really every bit as good as one.

5 Star Review Great Power Supply!

Strengths:

This power supply works wonders! It is strong enough to support my Q6600 OC'ed with dual SLI'ed 8600GTS cards

Weaknesses:

My only weakness is that it is not modular.

Posted Feb 22, 2008 - I must say that this power supply meets my needs; A quiet, strong power supply that doesn't break down and works exactly as described. This thing is a workhorse. Having dual 6pin PCIe for SLIing is also a great advantage. This power supply is highly recommended!

5 Star Review Corsair VX 550 Power Supply

Strengths:

Well built, >80% Efficiency, Active PFC, Long Cabling, Very Quiet, Corsair 5 Year Warranty

Weaknesses:

None

Posted Jan 13, 2008 - This power supply has a single +12volt rail with 41A so you don't have to worry about under powering one of the new high end graphics cards. It doesn't have modular cables, but the cables are sleeved and long enough for newer cases that have the power supply mount on the bottom of the case. The 120mm fan runs quiet so this is a good choice for a near silent PC.

5 Star Review VX 550W Power Supply

Strengths:

Weight, build quality, multiple connectors, very long cables, 41A on one rail

Weaknesses:

not modular-more an observation than a weakness

Posted Dec 24, 2007 - This psu works well in bottom mounted psu cases where long cables are needed. There are plenty of cables for future upgrades. Sleeving is nice. PSU is very efficient and power ratings are not inflated. Over 80% efficiency with one 41A rail. I am very impressed with this psu and already bought another.

5 Star Review Quality Power Supply

Strengths:

Quiet and powerful with 41amps on the 12v rail.

Weaknesses:

None

Posted Dec 5, 2007 - This is a high quality power supply. There is a very detailed online review of this power here (not sure if pricegrabber allows me to post a link here or not): www.jonnyguru.com/revi... This power supply uses very high quality Japanese capacitors. And it is very quiet in my case, much quieter than my previous CoolerMaster which got loud when I played games. Its a single 12v rail power supply (41a on the 12v rail). Corsair is also a very customer oriented company. Just check their forums and you will see them going out of their way to help people with their question or replacing anything that might be defective. Their customer support, high quality power supplies, and 5 year warranty can't be beat. I seriously wish more companies gave support like Corsair does, unfortunately most companies are just awful anymore.
