The TruePower line of power supplies has won over 50 awards around the world for its ability to deliver quality, stable power. TruePower 2.0 is poised to set the standard for performance power supplies. Its single 120mm fan efficiently and quietly keeps things cool, while industrial-grade protection circuitry prevents damage from short circuits, power overloads, excessive current, excessive voltage and excessive temperatures. The fan-only power connectors allow True Power to control case fan speeds, reducing total system noise. Gold plated connectors provide superior conductivity. minimize

5 Star Review Nicely done Antec

Strengths:

Quiet, you get what you pay for

Weaknesses:

None

Posted Oct 7, 2005 - Another great product from Antec. I only use Antec PSUs, quite and great performance. I previously had a 480w True Power, this is even quieter than that. I didn’t want to upgrade my PSU, but I needed to with the new 24-pin demand on the Nforce4 boards. I have more power than I could need but it comes in handy. I’ve over-clocked my Athlon64 3700 San Diego at stock 2.2ghz @ 1.40v to 2.790ghz CPU x9 @ 1.65v. The 12v rail is running within the allowable variance. I also highly recommend Antec PC cases; check out the p180, you won’t be sorry.

5 Star Review Excellent PSU

Strengths:

High wattage, and plenty of cables.

Weaknesses:

None so far

Posted Aug 24, 2005 - Antec lives up to its name as one of the most reliable, and stable power supplies around. This PSU is quiet, and it took better control on the noise of my cheap case fans by reducing their speed. The unit comes with 4 SATA connectors, a lot of 4-pin molex connectors (I think about 6 or so), 2 floppy drive connectors, 2 6-pin PCI-E connectors, a few fan connectors (4-pin molex with only 2 pins), 1 24-pin motherboard power connector (the last 4 pins can be removed to allow compatability with older 20-pin motherboards), 1 4-pin +5v connector, and one 3-pin connector that attaches to the motherboard (for some sort fan monitoring). This is much more than what I need for a future upgrade, and now I can feel confident that my computer will maintain electrical stability for a long time. Highly recommended

5 Star Review TruePower 2.0 TP-II 550 550W Review

Strengths:

High wattage (550W), stability, quiet 120mm fan (21 dBa), long connectors, high current for the rails, ATX 12v 2.0 compliance, two PCI Express power connectors, four SATA connectors

Weaknesses:

N/A

Posted Sep 3, 2005 - There are sufficient connectors for most of the device in your system. 4xSATA, 2xPCI Express, 8x4-pin Molex, 2 fan-only connectors. Cables are long enough for tall cases or ones with unique setups like the Antec P180. Cables do become crowded, but usually wattage and stability takes precedence over modular connectors, which add resistance to the rails, anyway.

5 Star Review Good Power/Good Price

Strengths:

Great price at rated specs; quiet auto-variable speed 120mm fan (will not be audible over other fans in case); fan on bottom to help suck heat from CPU and increase airflow over motherboard; SLi ready

Weaknesses:

No LED on fan (if you're into that)

Posted Apr 17, 2006 - I've had good experiences with Antec products, and this is no exception. For what it's rated at (550W, SLi-ready, etc), this PSU is a great deal and provides all the juice my power-hungry DFI nF4-Ultra needs (at all 4 motherboard connection points). The power rails remain steady for stable power for my overclocking needs. The 120mm fan is definitely silent, although most power supplies are never the primary noise-maker in the case. The speed of the fan is temperature regulated, but I've found that even at the highest speeds, the PSU remains inaudible.

5 Star Review Great Power Supply

Strengths:

Seperate 12v rails. SLI ready with 2 video card plugs. Very quiet. Provides clean stable power.

Weaknesses:

None that I have found.

Posted Dec 18, 2005 - The seperate 12v rails gives clean stable power to the motherboard and CPU for a stable system. Two fan only connectors help keep the system quiet but still cool. 120mm fan keeps the PSU cool. It has 2x6 pin connectors for video cards ready for SLI. 550 watts is enough for a high end system. I am very happy with this PSU.

5 Star Review An excellent PSU!

Strengths:

Plenty of cables, high wattage and extremely quite 120mm fan

Weaknesses:

Not that I can think of!

Posted Sep 17, 2005 - Had this PSU barely for a month now and I am very pleased with it. I bought it with SLI in mind and this PSU is ready for it and waiting! A very good purchase and have no regrets.

5 Star Review antec truepower 550

Strengths:

tons of power(550w) and lots of connections including 2 pci express for nvidia sli cards.

Weaknesses:

lacks detachable cables found on neopower and sp-500 smartpower 2.0, also has only 4 molex connectors, but that problem can quickly be solved using molex y-cables.

Posted Oct 14, 2005 - overall the antec truepower 550 is one of the best if not the best psu units at any price. while it's 550w is not the most powerful psu today, 550w is enough for most people and even gives a lot of headroom for many of them as well. it's high tech voltage accuracy on all 3 rails as well as dedicated power on all 3 has really set a new standard in psu's and one day all psu's will have these 2 great features but for now, only antec's truepower series have these. to sum it up, unless your computer needs more than 530w(which very few do) the antec truepower 550 is the only way to go and with antec truepower's more than 50 major awards for psu excellence, i'm sure they're not far away from releasing a truepower series psu with even more than 550 watts. lastly, my personal computer with it's moderate power demands, for 6 months i had a antec sl400 which ran it great with no problems whatsoever, but for me i wanted a overkill psu, thus i've installed the antec truepower 550, i'm one of very few people who like psu braging rights.

4 Star Review Quite Power

Strengths:

Quite Powerful ATX 2.0, SATA, and SLI connectors

Weaknesses:

Does not have modular connectors like Antec NeoPower

Posted Aug 22, 2005 - This is a great PSU with enough muscle to drive my system. DFI LanParty UT nF4 SLI-DR 2x WD Raptor 74GB SATA 10,000 RPM (will add two more shortly) 1 GeForce 6800 GT PCIE (will add another shortly in SLI mode) 1 Panasonic DVR-A09XL AMD Athlon X2 4400+ OCZ 2x1GB DDR PC-3200 No power fluctuations, heat problems, or noise problems with this PSU. I like not having to use any adaptor cables for SATA or SLI connectors like you need to with other PSU's. My only complaint is that Antec does not make the NeoPower with this wattage or the TruePower with the modular connectors. I don't like having to stuff unused connectors into empty drive bays in order to get them out of the way. Besides this complaint it is a great PSU from a reputable company.

1 Star Review Worked for 48 hours

Strengths:

It was quiet.

Weaknesses:

Zero quality control

Posted Aug 7, 2006 - This unit worked for just over two days and then died completely. I'm not coming anywhere near its rated load running a 3.4Ghz p4c, 865pe chipset, one raptor hdd and a 6800gt. Very disappointed with this product. Mwave is sending me an advance replacement (billed to my CC and refunded when my RMAed part returns). Hopefully the replacement won't die so utterly prematurely.

4 Star Review TruePower 2.0 TP-II 550W

Strengths:

Quiet Fan size

Weaknesses:

Price

Posted Oct 30, 2005 - I bought this power supply for an AMD Athlon 64 X2-3800 processor, Corsair 2GB DDR400 XMS3200 memory Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe motherboard, 2 Hitachi DeskStar T7K250 SATA II drives, and GeForce 6800GT graphic card. The power supply has plenty of outlets especially for multiple SATA drives. Voltages are stable. Temperatures a low with normal cooling supplied with the power supply. For a 550 watt power supply the footprint is small. The front panal controls are the great and look good too.
