1 Star ReviewMac OS X with this product? Forget it.
Strengths: Nice little box with pretty picture of product on it.
Weaknesses: Will not work with Macs unless you are a hacker/techie/mystic.
Summary: This is without question the lamest computer product I have ever had the misfortune to try. Absolutely nothing on the box or the enclosed materials tells you that this thing WILL NOT WORK with Macintosh computers.

Linksys' technical support is atrocious. I was on hold for more than an hour, then got some chippie who couldn't speak intelligible English. She didn't know there was a Mac OS X installer buried/hidden in the maze of folders on the CD, so she led me off to a Wellesley College Web site that had a five-year-old workaround for (get this) OS 8 and 9, except for 8.6. Rich. What century is this company doing business in?

So, I found the hidden installer and clicked it. Guess what? The installer wouldn't run because it couldn't find something called a "Bill of Materials". I am not making this up. So I downloaded the installer CD from the Web site, thinking maybe they'd added a fix after my unit shipped. Same result.

Cisco should be ashamed of this product, or clearly indicate on the packaging and the hype that it is Windows-only (unless you like wasting time trying to be an amateur hacker by staggering to some kind of crippled workaround).

4 Star Review
Strengths: Printer Server and Hub
Weaknesses: No USB 2.0 support
Summary: Double upgrade was the key decision for me. More ports the better. With XP SP2, setup was a bit clumsey. Disable software firewalls if using a router firewall.

4 Star Review
Strengths: Well, this works just fine for me. I am not a sophisticated user, but it does exactly what I need it to do. I have it connected to a Linksys wireless router. Installation was not difficult.
Weaknesses: NA
Summary: I am pleased with this purchase. I am now able to work in my living room and send print commands to my printer which is located in my loft.

1 Star Review
Strengths: has 4 extra NIC ports
Weaknesses: Print server doesnt work across seperate vlans or ip segments. Only computers on the same ip segment as the print server can use it.
Summary: if you have and office with more than 254 devices. More than 1 IP Segment. This device willnot work for you.

Imagine 2 or ip segments.

Example:

10.56.140.1/254

10.56.141.1/254

10.56.142.1/254

If the print server has and IP of 10.56.140.*. Only the computers on the 10.56.140.* Segment can use the print server. The utilities that come with it time out too fast and are not able to detect it. You can ping it. You can also telnet into it.

4 Star Review
Strengths: Don't need a dedicated PC to share out my printer as a network printer.
Weaknesses: Had to call Linksys support and found out that instead of using HP PSC 2110 All-in-one driver, I had to use the HP Deskjet 990C printer driver. Printing works just as good with that driver.
Summary: No other comments other than the strengths and weeknesses. I would recommend this HP Print Server to anyone else who is looking for a print server to use.

2 Star Review
Strengths: it's small and easy to install, even got it to run under Linux
Weaknesses: Runs warm, and stops responding. It begins responding when I turn it off and on.
Summary: I called Linksys support, and they had me looking at the drivers and etc. I tried to explain that was not the problem, the problem was that the device stopped responding unless I turned it off and on. I couldn't even log on to the configuration web page until I did this.

1 Star Review
Strengths: Small form-factor; all cabling included for basic physical setup
Weaknesses: No Configuration Documentation or Software for non-Windows operating systems; questionable Mac OS (9 or X) support
Summary: Despite being marked as being for "all platforms" this product's print server functions only work correctly under Windows. While it is techincally possilbe to establish minimum operation (basic printing sans support for any unique options of the attached printer) under other operating systems such as Unix or Linux, this can only be accomplished through trial and error, as no user configuration instructions are provided except for the Windows-based "Setup Wizards". This product's print server functions appear to be entirely incompatible with Appletalk standards and any version of Mac OS (despite claims of support). The lack of other platform drivers, user configuration instructions or native, non-windows platform support for this product render it effectively useless within a mixed workgroup or Mac-based environment.

4 Star Review
Strengths: Worked w/ my Canon PIXMA IP3000. Also includes a 4 port switch.
Weaknesses: Does not work w/ all printers ... bidi features disabled ...
Summary: Well, I grew tired of the pickiness of my HP Deskjet 6127 with regards to cartridges (HP is famous for trying to keep you from using refilled cartridges).

I wanted a good photo printer, but nothing I found had network support (at least, nothing that didn't have the same cartridge problem as my HP).

So, I decided to try the PSUS4 from Linksys. I've had good luck w/ Linksys products so far, but I knew from reading about various print server products that many times they wouldn't work w/ various printers.

But, I found the product (from Pricegrabber) at a good price, so I gave it a chance. Also, it has a 4 port switch, so I figured I could remove the switch in my network and replace it with this if it worked.

BTW, for those who complain about no docs ... well, there is a very small setup guide included. For the detailed stuff, you can d/l and print a PDF from the Linksys website.

Get used to it; it saves the manufacturer a ton of money to not include detailed manuals in the box.

Anyway, back to the PSUS4. Basically, I set it up and had no problems. I had a feeling this would be the case as the PIXMA is a new printer.

I expected the bidirectional printer status features to be disabled ... and they were. All print servers seem to have this problem so I wasn't concerned. My main worry was whether or not it would work at all.

So my guess would be any PIXMA printer would work. Aside from that, your guess is as good as mine, though research on the web might help.

4 Star Review
Strengths: Price, supplied USB cable, ease of setup.
Weaknesses: Runs very warm. Had to contact Linksys Support for assistance in configuring my Compaq A3000 Printer.
Summary: Purchased the Linksys to run with my Linksys Wireless-B Broadband Router and Compaq A3000 Printer. Once configured, runs well. Cannot beat the price and included USB cable. Would recommend to anyone for an inexpensive way of utilizing one printer for several computers.

4 Star Review
Strengths: Small, fast, and reliable.
Weaknesses: Compatibility
Summary: I bought this server for a Canon multifunction. Unfortunately, the Linksys website and the server's manual do not indicate which printers work with the server. I ended up buying another printer to share on the network and the server does a great job with just a regular Lexmark printer. In addition, the server is a lot smaller than it looks in the pictures and takes up very little space.

5 Star Review
Strengths: does the job, comes with cables and p/s
Weaknesses: none
Summary: This was perfect for the price. It even came with a USB and network cable. The software was easy to use. Finally a print server solution that doesn't cost $100 or more, and it even doubles as a network switch.
Thank you for the valuable feedback!

3 Star ReviewCannot print to Samsung LaserWriter
Strengths: Added 3 ports to my home network via a house-wiring adaptor (1st port is connected to the adaptor -- duh!)
Weaknesses: Installation "wizard" is awkward. Does not seem to work with all printers.
Summary: I bought this based on positive comments on review boards like this one. However, the installation from CD was awkward -- I missed one detail and had to uninstall the driver, reboot, and try again from the beginning. Its ports work fine -- it gave me the extra ports I needed off my Netgear "wall-plugged" adaptor. But I cannot get anything to print. Rather than spending another hour trying to reach tech support (their website appologized for delays due to an earthquake in SE Asia), I simply plugged my LaserWriter back into one of my computers and reconfigured it. Network Magic does not properly recognize it as a switch with a printer hanging off it, so I might have some luck calling NM instead of Linksys.

4 Star Review
Strengths: NA
Weaknesses: NA
Summary: We tried to use this server in conjuntion with the HP1100D printer and could not get the combination to work. However through troubleshooting with HP & Linksys it seems that the printer is the source of the problem. Switched the Linksys PrintServer to another printer and it works fine.
