Share your USB printer and expand your network with one compact box! The Linksys PrintServer for USB with 4-Port Switch is a double upgrade for your network. First, it lets you connect a USB printer directly to your network, eliminating the need to dedicate a PC to print serving chores. Using a PrintServer frees up your "print share PC" so you don't have to leave it on all the time. It also removes the printing bottleneck, and sets your PC free to do more useful work. In addition, the PrintServer includes a 4-port 10/100 switch, so you can easily add more devices to your network. All four ports are auto speed negotiating, and have automatic MDI/MDI-X crossover detection, so you don't have to worry about the cable type. Each port independently negotiates the best speed and half- or full-duplex mode, for up to 200Mbps of bandwidth per port. Fast store-and-forward switching prevents damaged packets from being passed on into the network. A user-friendly Setup Wizard makes installation easy, the compact case fits anywhere, and the one megabyte print buffer size handles even large graphics-intensive print jobs. Let the Linksys PrintServer for USB with 4-Port Switch bring efficiency to your printing tasks and expand your network, in one cost-effective device. minimize

2 Star Review Linksys PSUS4 print server - beware -

Strengths:

The fact the unit has a four port switch is nifty.

Weaknesses:

These are only made for printers that run PCL. Minimum Requirements Printer with USB Type-B port, PPCL enabled printer (GDI not supported)

Posted 1 month ago - Got two of these little wonders to work with two new HP LaserJet P1505 printers, but they are incompatable. On the Linksys web site, they state: "Minimum Requirements Printer with USB Type-B port, PPCL enabled printer (GDI not supported)". HP's site does not list PCL as a feature of the LJ P1505 - maybe it is a printer without a brain :(

1 Star Review Junk! returned it the next day

Strengths:

none

Weaknesses:

does not work

Posted Apr 16, 2007 - Tinkered with it for 2 hours before it would even talk with my Linksys router. Then after that fooled with it another hour and finally gave up. device would not communicate with my printer. Utterly useless read all the documentation. BTW I am a certified computer tech. Guess my printer is incompatible.

2 Star Review Linksys PSUS4

Strengths:

Has 4 Ethernet ports to allow you to expand your router needs.

Weaknesses:

Can be a real bear to set up. Sometimes it'll configure with no real hassles, other times you're at the mercy of the developing a third eye for these type of conflicts, if you know what I mean.

Posted Apr 12, 2006 - I found that in the long run, if you don't need the extra Ethernet ports to expand your present router, then you most likely would be better off with obtaining a ZOT PU101 USB print server instead of this Linksys unit, the PU101 is a lot easier to work with and is less than half the size of the PSUS4 print server. The ZOT unit is a real jewel to work with.

4 Star Review replacement of hp jetdirect

Strengths:

5 minutes install - recognised printer directly (hp 3500 LaserJet)

Weaknesses:

have not established (too short)

Posted Aug 4, 2005 - Used this thing with a hp laserjet 3500 as the original HP JetDirect stopped functioning. 5 minutes later it was working again. Fixed IP address. Works also from switch to switch so you do not have to find an uplink port. This saved some $ (euros) opposed to original HP stuff. Writing this review cost me more time than setting up the printserver.
