Strengths:Worked w/ my Canon PIXMA IP3000. Also includes a 4 port switch.
Weaknesses:Does not work w/ all printers ... bidi features disabled ...
Posted Oct 19, 2004 - Well, I grew tired of the pickiness of my HP Deskjet 6127 with regards to cartridges (HP is famous for trying to keep you from using refilled cartridges).
I wanted a good photo printer, but nothing I found had network support (at least, nothing that didn't have the same cartridge problem as my HP).
So, I decided to try the PSUS4 from Linksys. I've had good luck w/ Linksys products so far, but I knew from reading about various print server products that many times they wouldn't work w/ various printers.
But, I found the product (from Pricegrabber) at a good price, so I gave it a chance. Also, it has a 4 port switch, so I figured I could remove the switch in my network and replace it with this if it worked.
BTW, for those who complain about no docs ... well, there is a very small setup guide included. For the detailed stuff, you can d/l and print a PDF from the Linksys website.
Get used to it; it saves the manufacturer a ton of money to not include detailed manuals in the box.
Anyway, back to the PSUS4. Basically, I set it up and had no problems. I had a feeling this would be the case as the PIXMA is a new printer.
I expected the bidirectional printer status features to be disabled ... and they were. All print servers seem to have this problem so I wasn't concerned. My main worry was whether or not it would work at all.
So my guess would be any PIXMA printer would work. Aside from that, your guess is as good as mine, though research on the web might help.
