good value

Strengths: low price all-in-1. Faster print and good quality.

Weakness: no LCD monitor

I have had this all-in-one up and running for two weeks and tried all functions. Pretty satisfied with the print and scan quality. The color is slightly off but you cannot expect too much from an all-in-one at this price. Another thing is it doesn’t have a monitor so you may need to print an index if you have a lot of photos in your flash memory but only want to print some of them.

PIXMA MP170 is near perfect

Strengths: Fast, reliable, true colors without grains, in-built power supply, consumes less power, reliable CIS scanner, FINE cartridge with 2pl nozzles, good yield

Weakness: Bit noisy, aesthetics, size, no-backlight in display

Good printer for versatile home/home office use. Color tones are faithful and no graininess seen on most inkjets. I had HP PSC1610 and returned it after using this printer. Although 1610 looks good and prints good, it was very slow and lots of grains on photo prints. This one is real fast, reliable but noisy. At $86 we paid for our Canon Pixma MP170 it has been a pleasant experience so far.

decent printer

Strengths: cheap (lower than $100), decent print/copy quality

Weakness: none so far considering the low price

The is a very decent economical all-in-one printer I suggest you to buy because it can accomplish the normal family need. The print/copy quality is very good, and it prints fast. Of course it needs improvement like having a lcd etc. For a sub-$100 printer, however, i won't complain too much.

Good Printer

Strengths: 1. Solid built. 2. Quick. 3. Good quality on scanned images and printouts.

Weakness: Haven't found any yet.

This all-in-one machine does everything I expected. It offers great features for an economical price. Replacement ink cartridges are also reasonably priced. Print quality for documents is excellent, photo quality is good.

Fast print, decent printing quality

Strengths: Fast color print; decent printing quality consider the other machines at this price level;

Weakness: a little noisy;

Basically it is a good all in one machine. The main problem is that the noise control is not satisfying although the printing speed is fast enough. The quality of scan is decent, not the best, which may involve some annoying interference when using the maximum resolution.

CANON Pixma MP170

Strengths: small footprint

Weakness: relative unavailability of ink cartridges

I researched many all in one printers and landed on this one based on the relatively high ratings, brand, and price.
We liked the small footprint, and decided to put it on the desktop itself. you can use the space on top of the printer for other things if you do not do much scanning. It gives good prints and we like it better than our Lexmark that we had to replace. The only drawback is that the ink cartridges are relatively hard to find with not as many places carrying them as the more "popular" cartridges.

Great Printer

Strengths: Inexpensive, Good quality, All-in-one

Weakness: Noisy, Destined to fail

As far as the price goes, this printer is excellent. The quality is great and it prints relatively fast. It's an all-in-one printer; it has card slots and everything. I've never experienced any problems with the scanner. It's solid and it won't likely break on you. On the other hand, this printer lacks an LCD screen to preview pictures, and even a back light for the display that it does have. It's also pretty noisy. It's a printer, so that's bound to happen, but it does bother some people. Also, I have had a few of these, and on 2 of them, the printer claims that there's a paper jam when there isn't any. I researched this and many other people are experiencing this, so it's a known problem, but apparently nothing has been done to fix it.

Canon Pixma MP170 Photo AIO Inkjet Printer

Strengths: 22 PPM in Black, 17 PPM in Color, Pictbridge enabled, Quality picture prints

Weakness: Printer LCD menu hard to navigate

I purchased this printer yesterday and so far it has been great. Compared to my previous Dell and HP printers, this Canon seems to outperform in speed and quality. The quality of the 4 x 6 photo prints are great, with vivid colors and little distortion.

It is also Pictbridge enabled to print photos directly from a digital camera through a USB connector. This feature could be much better with an LCD screen on the printer to view pictures before printing.

Ink cartridges are also fairly cheap for Canon printers.
