The MFC-8220 is a full-feature fax, an up to 21ppm laser printer, a 600dpi copier and a 300 x 600dpi scanner all rolled into one. The fax machine comes with a 33.6Kbps high speed Super G3 fax modem and 32MB of memory to store up to 600 fax pages. Simple to use, this fax machine has 32 one touch locations,300 station speed dial locations and dual Access and broadcasting, as well as Caller ID and Distinctive Ring Detection. It's also secure with password controlled access. Also included is PC Fax capability, allowing you to send and receive faxes directly from your PC. The printer produces 2400 x 600 dpi (HQ1200) prints via PCL6 and BR-Script3 emulations. It also comes with 32MB of memory which can be upgraded to 160MB and both USB 2.0 and parallel interface flexibility. It can even become network ready through an optional Ethernet server.The legal-size digital copier also copies up to 21ppm. With its 30-page Automatic Document Feeder (ADF), it will provide multi-copying, up to 99 copies, with sorting. PC-free, the copier reduces and enlarges from from 25%-400%.The color flatbed scanner, with 64 shade gray scale for photo resolution, provides simple one touch operation. Strengths:

Compact,sylish, clean looking.

Weaknesses:

Heavy power drain. Causes line voltage to dip and trips UPS alarm. Have to run a separate circuit.

Posted Jul 20, 2004 - Nice 5-1 unit. Prints pages quickly, copies and faxes well. Easy to set-up. Would recommend option network card or an esternal print server for network environment. Power drain is not an issue. I would recommend its purchase.

5 Star Review Nice All-in-one printer

Strengths:

The quality and speed of printing, scanning and fax.

Weaknesses:

only have B/W scan

Posted Feb 8, 2008 - It's a really nice laser all-in-one. I owned another brother laser printer for 3 years and had no problem at all. So I assume this one is made solid also. Even though it's a business level one, it still did great job for home office purpose. Fast printing, scanning, and fax. The only drawback is its B/W scan function. I am very glad to have it so far.

Strengths:

Initial Cost and consumables price per page.

Weaknesses:

The Manual Feed Tray only holds one piece and Jams occasionally with envelopes. Cost of optional second lower tray.

Strengths:

a value product which provided mult-function tasks for small business setting, cost of toner is very reasonable in compare with regular inkjet cartridge

Weaknesses:

A paper tray with 500volume would be best

Posted Jun 29, 2004 - Excellent and speedy black and white printing. Scanner perform at good DPI with crispy result. Forseeable low maintenance supply cost. 32MB will fit the need of any small office setting for fax, copy etc.

4 Star Review MFC-8220 BROTHER PRINTER

Strengths:

The inexpensive cost of this printer is why I bought the printer, plus the reviews of the inexpensive cost of the ink.

Weaknesses:

I don't like the screen on top of the printer. My overhead lights in my office are bright and the screen on the printer is very hard to see.

Posted Apr 8, 2008 - This has been a very nice printer for me. We use it daily without any problems. Like I said earlier, the low cost and the reviews are the main reason I purchased this printer. It is very easy to learn to use. I am very pleased with my MFC-8220 Brother Printer

Posted Mar 29, 2008 - This is an excellent laser multifunction for the money. prints come out nice and dark, works fast and has document feeder for fax and scan. unlike many multifunctions, this does come with fax. footprint is not big and its fairly quiet. excellent buy for the money.

Posted Feb 16, 2008 - Very good and cheap all-in-one printer. Only one drawback is no-color scanner. I scan a lot of color images, so this would be a big problem for me. But, for this price, I can't complain.

4 Star Review Fast, inexpensive multifunction machine for small offices

Strengths:

Fast, extensive fax features; inexpensive; Driver is simple and just takes less ram space; printing is good; scan is good; came with the paperport software.

Weaknesses:

can not scan in color; can not print with the high quality. this is a little old model.

Posted Feb 11, 2008 - Brother MFC 8220 is fast and inexpensive multifunction machine which provide most of the features for a small business office. I highly recommend if you're in the market for a multifunction monochrome laser printer machine that is compatible with both Windows and Mac OS.
