Good MFC machine
Strengths: Auto document feeder, good software, solidly built
Weaknesses: Ink cartridges are expensive to replace, won't function w/o cartridges installed
Summary: This is a good MFC. I used it to scan my research files thru the ADF, which totalled at least 3000 pages. No problem at all, and I was able to turn several boxes of paper into 2 gb on my hard drive. It's as well built as you can expect in a $100 MFC. I'd prefer more metal, but then it would be heavier and costlier. My only real beef with the machine is that it will not function without cartridges installed. I wanted to just install the black cartridge in order to preserve the color cartridges, since I have no intention of printing in color anytime soon. It's all or none, though.

Amazing performance
Strengths: Cost effective
Weaknesses: No Cable
Summary: (Edited March 07th by Swiftsale) This machine is owsome. All in one, four tasks center. I purchased it for around 100$. The software is easy to install and if you follow the steps you'll have it ready in no time. separate tray for plain papers and photo papers, easy to switch between the two. the print quality is really exceptional when using genuine LC-51 series ink. Memory card slots and pictbridge option are another plus. comes with new ink cartridges and a bonus pack of photo papers. the only downside is that there is no USB cable which you have to buy separately.
I highly recommend this printer for home or small office use because it has all what you need from printing to copy to fax and even decent quality photo printing.

Perfect Sized All-In-One Printer with a Fax
Strengths: Size, large LCD display, easy-to-change ink cartridges
Weaknesses: Washed out print, tray needs to be removed to change paper sizes.
Summary: This version of the Brother all-in-one is nice because of the larger and much easier to see LCD display, compact size and it's network ready. The ink printing quality is not great, very washed out. All the features work well, the printer is fairly quiet, however, a downfall of this printer; the paper tray has to be removed to adjust from paper to envelope. If you need a smaller printer for lack of space, it's fine, if you prefer a crisp, clear print job this printer is not for you.

Brother MFC 440CN
Strengths: Easy setup, small footprint, fair to good quality print
Weaknesses: None yet. Lets hope it lasts a while
Summary: Time to bring out next years models. Got this for $73 at a big box store! So far I'm very pleased. Easy set-up. Networking was a no-brainer. I use a laptop that I need to VPN to my employer. This isolates me from my home network and thus I can't get to any networked printers. But with this printer I can connect via USB and it works both on the network and via USB saving me having to drop VPN just to print. Haven't used the fax yet, and hope that I never have to. But seems to have lots of fax features that a small business would use. Being able to scan to a mem card is a real nice feature. So far so good. Just hope I get a few years service out of it. Anxious to try aftermarket inks also.

Great machine!
Strengths: Easy to setup and use. Fast printing, and great copies, originals and prints.
Weaknesses: Feed paper bin requires removal and opening to reload. No single (blank)copy page loading ability.
Summary: I had used a similar Brother All-In-One unit at a business office, prior to purchasing this unit, so I was familiar with its capabilities and quality of service. It replaces 3 different HP components that I had in my tiny home office space with one compact powerhouse. My wife (technically challenged) really likes it!

Brother MFC-440CN
Strengths: Very quick and easy setup for networking either Vista, XP or Mac. Good photo printing. Small size and top feeder.
Weaknesses: Instructions could be better and retail package does not include Vista drivers. These had to be downloaded from the Brother website.
Summary: I think this is a great little office printer. It has read all 3 memory cards I threw at it. It easily networks my macbook, thinkpad & desktop PC. I like how it routes the cable internally so you don't have wires sticking all over the place. The LCD is nice though the menu system isn't perfectly intuitive, you may have to read to understand how to change the settings. I like how easy it is to change ink cartridges but I worry that the tube system it uses may end up getting clogged.

Brother MFC-440CN All-in-One Printer
Strengths: All-in-One, FAX included, a reasonable price, compact
Weaknesses: The product is impossible to use due bad manufaturer's job quality
Summary: A new printer #U61580J6F675950 I tried to setup according to Quick Guide, but was able only to connect FAX where LCD display did show all modes but standby, and a button "on/off" didn't work. A next step (install software) could not be able completely for technical reasons. I'd tried to get help from Brother, but their Technical Support is awful - 2 days 6 representatives kept me on hourly holding, then each told me to call to another phone #. When I was at last transferred to really competent person after many hours fruitless attempts to install software it became clear that this product is dead from the very beginning. I returned the printer and decided to buy Canon product instead. I would not recommend that others purchase this product - bad manufacturer's job quality, awful Technical Support I don't recommend that others purchase this product

MFC-440CN Printer
Strengths: Networking, compatablility, easy to use
Weaknesses: 10/100 Network Card
Summary: This is a wonderful machine. I have used other Brother printers, but none as easy as this one to set up. It only took me about five minutes, although I could have finished it in one. The install CD takes care of working out all networking issues, which is good for me, for I have multiple PCs and wanted one machine to do it all. I have found that machine.

MFC-440CN - network printer is great
Strengths: super easy install wizard, easy to link all laptops and computers in house or small business on a network.
Weaknesses: none immediate, want it to last as long as an HP.
Summary: just a great low cost printer that has a networking feature that is not on many printers under 300.00 Picture quality is good for general picture printing and framing - I've only used a 4x6 photo paper, not sure what an 8x11 picture would look like yet...

Great Machine
Strengths: Easy to operate, set-up, and relatively cheap ink cartridges
Weaknesses: You won't win awards for bright colors
Summary: This is a machine that is perfect for home users. The automatic feeder, fax, and scan all work as well as you'll ever need things like this to work. Spend the few extra bucks for the networking and LCD options. They're worth it.
