1 Star Review Looking for HELP on AiO 5100

Strengths:

It has not strengths

Weaknesses:

It goes through ink so fast, WHEN IT DID WORK. Got me for two more ink cartridges just trying to troubleshoot it. Was not the problem, apparently the printer heads!

Posted 1 year ago - Scans beautifully........but that is IT. It shakes and rattles when it goes through functions. Is extremely loud in doing so. It has been down and instead of replacing printer heads, I am going back to ink jet printers. Who cares if the ink costs more.........IT AT LEAST WORKS. I am DISGUSTED with this pathetic excuse for a scanner/printer/copier. Now I have a big bulky SCANNER......with no other function working with this Kodak AiO 5100. Elizzabeth Green

2 Star Review What about the yellow

Strengths:

Ease of use

Weaknesses:

Very poor print quality

Posted 5 months ago - I use the computer a lot for crafting etc. greeting cards etc. I would really like to be able to print cards with the colours in of yellow and orange, but unfortunately the printer will not print yellow. Every thing printed comes out pink which is very pretty if you really want everything in pink, which I don't.

1 Star Review Completely worthless model

Strengths:

Conditionally: price of replacement cartridges.

Weaknesses:

Failure to operate after about a month from purchase. Scanner will not operate if ink is low.

Posted 1 year ago - My Kodak 5100 AIO, which I've had for about 4 months is a factory replacement for the one I purchased at Wal-Mart about 7 months ago. The original stopped printing though I had not used it for more than about 20 documents. To Kodak's credit, the replacement came so quickly that I was shocked at its arrival. Since its arrival it has printed 5 documents and one letter-sized picture. I will be buying a pair of cartridges and if they don't resolve the problem (which is what I expect), Wal-Mart will just have to get them back and I will, forever, consider Kodak printers to be garbage. Soon after the failure of the original, I bought a HP Officejet 6310. I'm very satisfied with it.

3 Star Review Kodak Easy Share 5100

Strengths:

Good quality text, great 4x6 photos. Inexpensive ink. Nicely priced photo paper and ink packages. Good customer support from Kodak.

Weaknesses:

Separate Print-head that may need replacing after a certain amount of uses that Kodak doesn't mention in it's advertising. Large footprint. Expensive for more inclusive models.

Posted Aug 19, 2007 - I originally purchased an HP all in one unit, but after bringing it home and not working due to a bad printer door censor, I decided to go with the Kodak 5100. It is fairly easy to setup. The printhead needs to be snapped on to the driving mechanism and then one installs the ink. Startup was a confusing as the manual tells you to wait 2 minutes to get a calibration for the scanner. After trying several times, nothing printed on the 4x6 photo paper.(The photo paper needs to be placed glossy side down.) I was able to get a calibration printout through the Kodak easyshare software that comes with the printer. Some nice touches on the low-end model. There's a light that turns green when the photo paper is in. Large one-touch button that activate either the scanner or copier. I own a Mac G5, and the cd that had the install software did not recognize Mac os 10.4.10 even though the pop-up dialog box said the easy share software needed mac 10.4.8 to work properly. I was able to download the easy share software through the Kodak support website- that by the way, is very good! One review I read said when printing, the Kodak is loud. I personally do not think this printer is loud at all. Currently, ink and accessories can only be purchased at Best Buy. One last note. To all Kodak and Hp reps who stand in the stores explaining to customers the engineering of the printers. Most customers could care less if bubbles are forced through tubes, if microscopic holes squirt out ink or if elves that graduated from the finest art school in Paris were living in the printer and drawing the photos by hand and cranking them out. We just want it to work and work well. Kodak has forced other printer makers to re-think the way they make consumers spend money on ink suppies!

5 Star Review KODAK EASYSHARE 5100 PRINTER

Strengths:

Cheap ink!!! So far all the pictures I've printed look great. Price is right

Weaknesses:

It's bigger than I thought

Posted Jan 28, 2008 - Besides the size of this product, there seems to be no drawbacks. I can deal with the size, and considering it is an all in one, it is no bigger than its counterparts. I'm glad to see that a company out there has made a printer with ink that does not drain your budget. You can get a combo pack of black and color ink at Wal-Mart for about $22. That's less than what the black ink cart. cost on my old Lexmark 52, and the pictures on this Kodak printer are far superior. If I wanted to get a black and color ink cartridges for the Lexmark, it would cost me nearly $60. I hope Kodak runs them out of business, just for robbing us all on ink prices. I got this printer for $80 directly from Kodak. WOW!!! I don't think you can go wrong with this printer. Buy it and save yourself hundreds in ink costs alone!!!

1 Star Review Kodak 5100 did not set up - trying an exchange

Strengths:

Very reasonable price, inexpensive manufacturer's own ink

Weaknesses:

Challenging to install; indicator lights are very confusing, enough that the printed user manual becomes very attractive to keep on hand; sleep mode - this unit never turns off? Again, confusing.

Posted Apr 3, 2008 - This unit was delivered and within 20 minutes of setup, I opted to call Kodak Tech Support. The status/indicator lights did not make sense! After 45 minutes or more in chat with TS, he declared the unit inoperable, and suggested an immediate return/exchange with the seller. I'll post a follow-up after the exchange.

1 Star Review Don't Buy an EasyShare 5100-Stay Away!

Strengths:

None

Weaknesses:

Everything about it

Posted 2 months ago - Color printing quality disgustingly poor. Never could get it to scan and I've just went through 2 black ink cartridges and still can't even get it to print ANY black ink (despite many maintainence checks). Don't be fooled into thinking this unit has any bells and whistles...and don't let the thought of cheaper ink lure you in.

2 Star Review Kodak 5100 Printer

Strengths:

Nice Price, Good quality, Inexpensive Ink

Weaknesses:

Drinks Ink fast, Support is poor

Posted 1 year ago - Initially the I was happy with the printer. Nice price and good quality. It does manage to use ink very fast though. After a few months I noticed the quality was going downhill fast. I replaced ink carts, updated drivers, macrocode update, cleaned the printhead many times and performed alignment test. Still the quality of the pics were useless. That's when I contacted their support, which was utterly useless in my case. They repeatedly told me to do things I already told them I tried. They never offered me a new printhead. After about 2-3 days of going back and forth in emails I decided to buy a new printer. Overall I was happy with the printer until it started having problems. Keep in mind that while cheap ink is a positive it may not be so great if you have to replace it every few days. I used 2 color carts just trying to trouble shoot the problem. Maybe 30 sheets of paper, tops. The straw that broke the camels back for me was their support. If the printer works like it should then I was happy with it.

1 Star Review Bad News

Strengths:

Cheap ink, nice prints when / if it works

Weaknesses:

I own this printer and have serviced 2 others for customers. All 3 had faulty printheads which needed to be replaced almost immediately.

Posted 1 year ago - I had to aquire a new printhead cartridge to get this printer to function; the old printhead was DOA right out of the box. It printed fine for nearly a month, but now the printer won't recognize the color ink cartridge, and the printer software won't allow you to print (even in black & white) if it thinks that either black or color cartridge is missing or empty. The initial replacement of the printhead was quick if a bit annoying, but Kodak is really giving me the runaround with this new problem of not detecting the color ink. Avoid this printer.

1 Star Review Good price / Bad printer

Strengths:

Good price for the printer and replacement cartridges. Good photos at the beginning

Weaknesses:

Noisy and I have lost all my good photo qualities. Pictures do not print as good as they look on screen. Will no longer print black and white documents even after all the cleanings etc.

Posted 1 year ago - I would not recommend this printer to anyone who wants to make allot of good quality prints. No matter how good your software is, they will not come out great.

3 Star Review BAD Printheads

Strengths:

I loved this printer. I loved the ink prices, I loved the print quality, and I loved the speed. I printed postcards once and in draft mode it sent them flying to me it was so darn fast..

Weaknesses:

I have now found out that these printers have faulty print heads. I wasted 2 black cartridges a one partial and 1 full color cartridge doing printhead cleanings and calibrations to no avail....

Posted 1 year ago - I stil love this printer, Kodak must know they have a troubled printhead in these as the post I have read said they send you a new one for free and After troubleshooting with Kodak they are now sending me one also. I hope it fixes my problem. But If the next one goes out too soon after replacing it this printer will be in the trash and I will not own another Kodak. I have had Epsons and Canons I loved them. I may have to go back and just buy generic ink. I didn't have to with this printer since ink was affordable. I recommeded my boss buy one of these so I hope it doesn't break down soon or I may be in HOT WATER> When it works -- IT is the BEST! I agree about the status lights-they are very confusing...
