4 Star Review Great printer/scanner

Strengths:

Easy to use. Has LCD to display pictures to print without the computer. Has card slots for most major card types. Scanner and software is pretty good for an all-in-one.

Weaknesses:

Cost of ink, but that's true of any ink jet.

Posted Nov 20, 2007 - I found this printer amazing easy to set up and use, even though I've used ink jet printers for years. The advanced features in the scanning software impressed me. You can set do unsharp mask, descreening, etc... just like the software that came with my former dedicated scanner. My only fear is that the print heads will clog up. It's a known problem with all Epson inkjets because of the way they design their printers. You need to at least do a nozzle check once a week to keep the ink from drying out in the heads.

5 Star Review Excellent Printer

Strengths:

Fancy looking, cool LCD, fast printing, individual ink cartridges

Weaknesses:

The cartridges that come with the printer ain't full. They ran out pretty quickly.

Posted Nov 12, 2007 - The printer looks really cool with its black color and LCD. It is easy to use with the panel buttons on the left. The printing quality on a photo paper is very good. It does print very fast! No time to waste. The individual ink cartridges design save us some money. One drawback would be that the original cartridges are low on ink. New cartridges seem to last pretty long. Also, I am sure you can get a pretty good deal on Ebay for the ink. Highly recommended!!!

4 Star Review Epson CX8400 Delivers Quality Prints though Small Ink Carts Limits Printers Greatness

Strengths:

Fast Printing | High Quality Prints | Low Noise Levels | All-in-One Printer [Printer/Scanner/Copier] | Built-in LCD

Weaknesses:

Bundles Software is Annoying | Small Ink Cartridges | Expensive Ink | No Fax Option

Posted Nov 28, 2007 - This printer's quality really surprised me. I was expecting around average but the print quality (when using photo paper of course) was amazing. With fairly fast printing, high quality, and not a lot of noise I thought this was the perfect printer! Well.. until the ink ran out. The ink cartridges on this printer are *tiny*, they are easily the smallest ink cartridges I've seen on a printer. Even compact portable printers use larger ink cart(s) then this thing! Because of the small ink cartridges, the ink just doesn't last very long, and since of course they are expensive to boot you will end up paying more for this printer over time then printers of similar caliber. Also the bundled software after installed is very annoying, I'd recommend just installing the driver only. The built-in flatbed scanner is great for both photos and documents. It doubles as a copier as well, making for quick scans and then quick printing. Also the built-in LCD screen and the ability to insert various types of flash media makes it so you don't even have to use a computer to make prints with!

5 Star Review Epson CX8400 All-In-One Printer

Strengths:

Fast Printing and easy set-up. Quality is Great.

Weaknesses:

No Fax Function

Posted Nov 18, 2007 - It is a good and affordable All-in-One Printer. Four separate ink cartridges is an added advantage. It prints very fast with great quality. But no fax function is a drawback. Still I'll highly recommend this.

2 Star Review Big Performance. Small Price.

Strengths:

Price and Features.2.5 inch LCD

Weaknesses:

Uses Ink Fast, comes with only sample ink cartidges.

Posted Dec 23, 2007 - If you are looking to buy a printer, the Epson Stylus All-in-One CX8400 is on sale for $60.00 after $40.00 Instant rebate at circuit city. Check PriceGrabber for price. For that price this printer is great deal. But note: This printer only comes with :Sample ink cartridges: They are NOT full, and and last about 2 weeks with average use. You will need to buy FULL ink Cartidges with this priter. That ink will cost you about $60.00 for the three color and one black ink cartridges. Once I found that out I was able to return it and purcahse the canon mp470 instead. With the Epson Stylus CX8400, you can print, scan and copy with ease. You can even print photos without the need of a computer, just insert your memory card from your camera and you can view the photos on the 2.5 inch LCD and print instantly. This printer automatically adjusts the print quality based on the type of paper you select. The Epson Stylus CX8400 is a nice printer after you buy the full ink cartidges.

3 Star Review Time for a Change

Strengths:

Prive,clarity of color,ease of use

Weaknesses:

cost of ink,ink runs out fast

Posted 1 year ago - It was time to replace my 3 year old Lexmark. This was on sale so I jumped on it. I was interested in the different color cartridges so that when one color went bad, you only had to replace that color. The price was also somwhwat cheaper that Lexmark cartridges. This printer prints much faster and with better clarity. Pictures also print good but not as great as a true photo printer. It also doubles as a copier and that feature will come in handy. The only color available for the printer was black. I would have preferred white, but that was not a factor in me not buying it.For the price, this printer has exceeded my expectations so far and the speed in which it prints is an asset when trying to get things done fast.

1 Star Review Horrible Printer from a Horrible Company --- DO NOT BUY EPSON PRODUCTS!!!

Strengths:

None

Weaknesses:

Epson's ink scam forces you to buy ink when you don't need it and completely disables all functions of the printer until you do.

Posted 1 year ago - I bought this printer because it was cheap and looked nice. Well, that was a really bad idea. Epson's ink scam won't let you print when the printer 'says' it is out of ink, and it said my color cartridges were less than half way full after two weeks of printing using ONLY the 'Use Black Ink Only' option, just printing black text. Epson says it must prime each cartridge before printing... so this "priming" is eating as much ink as black ink when printing in only black. It is all a scam by Epson to get you to buy ink when you don't need it. So, when your ink cartridges are pretty much still full, Epson forces you to buy more ink from them. Their software has bright yellow buttons everywhere for you to buy in directly from Epson. Also, when you have "empty" ink cartridges that are still full of ink you can't use the scanner either (even when you're not trying to print anything!). Bottom line, DO NOT buy an Epson product unless you want to throw your hard earned money away. I personally think someone should bring a class action law suit against this fraudulent company... after being forced to buy a few more cartridges I just may do it myself. DO NOT BUY EPSON PRODUCTS!

1 Star Review Epson CX8400 Multi-function

Strengths:

Lot of features for price, easy to set up, works well out of the box.

Weaknesses:

Ink cartidges are tiny, and the ink disappears even if you don't print anything!

Posted Nov 26, 2007 - Epson settled a class-action suit about their ink software for $45 per plaintiff, and still have not resolved the complaint for new customers. I had this printer for 60 days, printed TWO color pages, and the software shows the color cartridges are more than 1/2 empty. Epson says this is "normal" and I should get better results with new cartidges. The Epson, sadly, rests in the trash where it belongs.

1 Star Review Didn't work out of the box

Strengths:

Price. ($79.99)

Weaknesses:

Didn't work. Tiny ink cartridges.

Posted Oct 17, 2007 - My Epson CX5400 failed after 3 years of use. It no longer recognizes the Epson brand ink cartridges. So, I decided to upgrade to the CX8400 since it was a reasonable price. Opened the box, inserted the Epson ink cartridges, powered on the printer, did not connect the printer to the computer via USB, all as instructed. Guess what? The LCD reported an error, "Unable to recognize ink cartridges." Unbelievable. New model, brand new printer, same problem. Online help/forums instruct resetting the cartridges or simply return it. Tried resetting, no luck. Therefore, I will return the printer and look for something else. Just unacceptable in my opinion.

1 Star Review What a waste

Strengths:

Looks cool

Weaknesses:

Everything else

Posted 1 year ago - I set my printer defaults to print with black ink only. Funny thing is all of my color cartridges ran out at the same time as my black ink. Strange that I never printed a page in color yet I ran out of ink. I bought more black thinking if I print only in black it would work. NOPE ALL INK NEEDS TO BE AVAILABLE! even if only printing text or b&w. Truth be told, the printer with it's first set of ink is now cheaper than buying a full set of new ink cartridges. I guess I have to decide if I want a new printer or just the ink, it just doesn't feel environmentally friendly if I buy a whole new printer but why pay more for just the ink

Strengths:

4 Star Review Epson CX8400 All In One

Strengths:

Excellent print quality, fast, stand alone operation. Footprint not too big.

Weaknesses:

No fax capability, no big deal.

Posted Feb 6, 2008 - Excellent print quality and pretty fast especially compared to my old CX3800 All In One. I really like the card slots and LCD screen to control printer functions. After market (compatible) ink carts are available which work very well. The footprint is smallish compared to the competition. Sleek black, shiny finish makes the machine really stand out. Best of all: NO PC required to copy/print!
