Strengths:Duplex support, network ready, native 1200x1200 dpi support, fast 30ppm speed, 32MB ram, USB2.0 support.
Weaknesses:High replacement cost for toner. Ram is either 32MB or 160MB, nothing in between. Paper always goes through 2 passes, even though you're only printing 1 page.
Posted 1 year ago - I've been waiting YEARS for a low cost printer with features like double-sided printing and network capability. This is the best printer upgrade/replacement for the house yet! Gone are the days I have to manually re-feed the paper to print on the back sides. The entire home network can finally share a printer without having one of the systems always turned on. Hooked it up to my router, assigned it a static IP and it was ready to go.
Print speed is noticeably faster than lesser models. Quality is sharp for both normal and toner saver mode. Only one thing that bugs me: every page goes through 2 passes even though you're only printing a single side document. As long as duplex mode is on, this is the way it is. No big deal really, just thought the logic of it could be better implemented. RAM can be only upgraded to 160MB with certain 128MB SO-DIMM modules. That's no big deal either since I'll probably never have reason to upgrade.
Starter toner is a 2000pg cartridge. Not bad considering lesser printers only have 1000pg ones. The high-yield replacement toner (5000pg) is pretty high priced; from $80-100 last I checked. Hopefully they will eventually come down a bit in the near future. But i'm willing to spend for this printer since I know it's a definite keeper for all its features and capabilities. Grab it if you see it on sale! Highly recommended.
