Strengths:Prints fast, laser ink (I didn't need color) so less water-soluble, actually faxes (my Lexmark x73 never did), so easy to setup, autofeed tray, auto feed slot
Weaknesses:If I had to think of something, I guess it would be that the auto-feed slot, it will grab the paper once you insert it a certain amount, so make sure the paper is not inserted at an angle.
Posted Sep 6, 2006 - Wow. I hated my Lexmark x73 because of many problems I won't bore you with. So, I researched and found this wonderful unit refurbished with a good warrantee so I bought it with a credit card that matches the warrantee and feel secure. I read many reviews on both amazon, pricegrabber, and other sites and was convinced of its quality.
The fact it faxes is just an added bonus. It prints crisply. I don't need it to print photos, so I don't care about this missing that aspect. I do however print resumes with a photo on them (I am a singer) and with the high quality print, it's fantastic. The scan quality is wonderful for my music notation programs. I love that I can use both 300 dpi AND toner-save function for when I truly need something just drafted. It is still very legible, just pixillated.
Another possible negative aspect is that the lid can't be removed such as with that aforementioned All-in-One. However upon researching and viewing many models and brands in the store and online, I think this is a thing of the past now.
I read how much money one saves with laser vrs inkjet, and I am awed. I found the warning notice quite humorous, that I will "only" get around 10,000 prints from the starter-drum, and something like 1500 from the starter ink cartridge. I am not using this industrially, so I feel confident this will last me a long time. In fact, when I used ink jet printers, sometimes I would use them quite infrequently and in turn, the inks would actually dry out and be unsalvagable. At about $20-$30 a pop, what a waste.
In summary, I needed a reliable unit that could do a lot of things and was a good value. I feel very confident that this will continue to impress me for years to come. I highly recommend it.
