5 Star Review B&W Lasers Don't Get Much Better

Strengths:

Incredibly fast - the processing time on everything from .pdf & CAD to full page photos is instantaneous. 11x17 prints fly right out as well. Ethernet port is standard.

Weaknesses:

I have seen 1 minor jam using cheap copy paper, but I was fooling around with the tray at the time.

Posted Jan 29, 2006 - We had a big copier company come out with a free trial of a thirteen thousand dollar all-in-one color copier. A great system, but all we really needed was fast CAD and .pdf printing and 11x17 support. So I find this Ricoh with an additional tray and extra toner pack for one tenth that amount. I was concerned that it wouldn’t be as fast as the expensive copier, but I think its actually faster. No one in our office can believe how quickly documents come out compared to the HP LaserJet 3300 Series we already had. Vector graphics like CAD were especially slow on the HPs but this thing just cranks them out. Worth every penny.

2 Star Review Ricoh AP610N - Not Bad, Not What I Expected

Strengths:

Speed, 11"-wide paper-handling.

Weaknesses:

Noise; lack of rear direct output tray for thick paper.

Posted Jun 22, 2006 - I just bought a new Ricoh AP610N to help me with high-volume mailings. Though I have never owned a Ricoh printer before, I bought this one because I wanted wide format but couldn't afford a wide format HP or Lexmark. 8.5"x11" pages fly out quickly (sideways!) and look beautiful. After spending a premium to get a wide format printer, I was disappointed to learn that I still had to feed #10 envelopes through sideways, because the 4.5" height of the envelope is not long enough to feed through the printer's paper-transport system and they keep getting jammed. I wish they had made a direct feed option where the envelope could go in the front of the printer and feed into an optional tray in the back (as in my slow old HPLJ 6P), rather than forcing all output to curl and land in the tray on top of the printer. What surprised me most was whenever I feed envelopes into the front bypass feeder, I hear two loud clicks as the printer compresses the contents of the bypass tray (presumably to avoid double-feeds). Overall the printer is louder than smaller lasers I've used before, but I thought something was broken when it kept clicking twice for each manual feed paper/envelope. I called Ricoh technical support this morning, and yep, that's a feature. Overall, I'm happy with my heavy-duty printer, and if I ever need to print 11" x 17" documents, I can. I wish I had known about the lack of feed options and the noise, though.

1 Star Review Paper tray broken

Strengths:

Fast. . worked well for a year or so

Weaknesses:

Paper tray

Posted Oct 26, 2007 - I work for a school, and we have a dozen or so of these printers in offices. The #1 problem with these printers is a paper jam caused by the paper tray. In the paper tray there is a slider to select the size of the paper (what printers don't have these) unfortunately the slider does not securely stay in place and over time will just move whenever the printer prints, paper is added etc. The kicker is that we have a service contract on these printers, and the repair techs can't even fix the problem (or are unwilling to replace the tray). Spend the extra $$s on a decent HP printer. We have many many more HP2300s, P3000s, 8550s than Ricohs and they are still working hard after 3+ years of use and abuse.

4 Star Review Make sure to get extended warranty!

Strengths:

Printed wonderful on 11 x 17. Used for proofing. Was quick and reliable until....

Weaknesses:

14 months out the computer board quit functioning.

Posted 1 year ago - The area Ricoh Dealer didn't have a clue and replaced many items until Corporate clued them in. Charge was double the cost of original printer for repair! Go buy a new one with extended warranty refund!

5 Star Review Ricoh 610

Strengths:

Print quality, speed, networking, price, economical toner

Weaknesses:

minimal: Limited paper weights, light construction

Posted 1 year ago - This is a great printer for me, I need hi res -- it's 1200 dpi, it's a great price for a tabloid printer, it's fast, and the toner lasts. I've had the printer for one year, bought a new toner at the same time since everyone says new printers come with about .5 of a full toner. I've printed 4000 pages and the original toner's still holding out. Test sheet approximates 40% left. I've seen some complaints about the plastic not being sturdy, and it's true it's not built like the HP tanks we have at school. Those HP printers (not intended for home use) stand up to a lot of abuse, but don't print as sharp, and they cost a LOT moe. I don't beat on the printer, and haven't broken anything. I would like to be able to print on heavier stock, but in my opinion you may have to give something up if you want excellent quality, speed and tabloid size printing under $1000. (well under!) I love this printer, and I recommend it highly. If you're looking for a printer for a school lab, where abuse and high page counts are an issue, I recommend spending more for a sturdier unit. Other than that it's a great product. Would like to add a duplexer though I see conflicting specs regarding whether it supports duplexing 11x17.

5 Star Review Printer works very good

Strengths:

Prints 11x17 paper. Software works 1st time. It took about 20 sheets of paper to ascend the learning curve with minimal reading. Can set up Lan network, but I didnt't. Worked it with my laptop.

Weaknesses:

The softwear manual is supplied on a disk. About 300 pages. I never did read it. Paper & computer read.

Posted Feb 25, 2008 - The 1st job was to print 2500 11x17 sheets for a 2-sided brochure. Kinko's charges would have ben about $0.25 each. Re-couped the cost of the printer with the 1st job. I learned that the first side fed from the paper tray with about 1 jam per 100 sheets. Because of static electricity, the 2nd side had to be printed from the pull-out front feeder. It can hold up to 50 sheets, but I fed 33 sheets at a time. Tried to relieve the static cling, but again I had about 1 or 2 sheets clinging per 100 sheets fed. Doing the job this way (2500 sheets) took about 5 hours of my time - but I had the time. About 20 minutes per 100 sheets - 2 sided. 5 sheets per minute. I suppose the duplex feeder would have sped the job up, and that would have been about 8 sheets per minute. The printer will do 35/minute - 8.5x11 one-sided. I didn't purchase the 2nd tray - like the picture.

2 Star Review Don't believe the photo!

Strengths:

Speed

Weaknesses:

Has only one tray. To add a tray costs too much.

Posted Jan 2, 2007 - The photo shows 2 trays but it comes with only 1. To add a tray is an option but pretty costly. However if you only need 1 tray it's a good deal for 11x17 laser printer.
