epson Stylus Photo R2400 review after one month use.

Started Aug 31, 2005

Strengths: High quaility prints. Improved Archival K3 inks Better Black and White prints than previous model.

Weaknesses: Only 8 ink locations for 9 potential inks. If you want to change from matt black to photo black then you have to swap out. In is then wasted in the required flushing

If you already have the p2200 then don't bother upgrading just fot the k3 inks. If you have a 1270, 1280, or 1290 then this upgrade is worth it becouse of the pigment based inks and archival prints.

Epson could have offered the same ink improvements to existing 2200 owners, but instead they have forced users to upgrade expensive hardware to benifit from the new k3 ink set.

I had the Epson 2200 and using the Quadtone RIP I still did not get the results I have with the 2400. The shadow detail and transitions with the three levels of Black ink are very smooth. I also feel the color printing is much more natural and not over sold.

True, the printer is a big step in the Black and White inkjet progression, but, that is what I shoot for and enter with foor my comp. prints. Most all of my color syuff is of my Grandchild!!!

I feel the printer is a big improvment over the 2200 and that is not just talk on my part to convince myselfe I did not waste my money.

Bottom line ,for me anyway, is that for the black and white alone it was well worth the price.

Five stars with a bullet.

I have the 2200 and it also has to have the different blacks changed out. This would be a great improvement if Epson would listen to their customers and make the printer hold all the colors at one time. This feature would greatly enhance Epsons reputation and help hold down the cost of ink used during changing. I too am thinking about purchasing the 2400 as I like to do black and white prints.

EPSON ARE YOU LISTENING TO YOUR CUSTOMERS. ALL COLORS IN THE UNIT AT ONE TIME...PLEASE.
