5 Star Review Good CPU I reccomend this cpu

Strengths:

dual-core, 64-bit computing, Intel Virtualization Technology.

Weaknesses:

none

Posted Apr 29, 2006 - This CPU is definately good for people who's standards are needed for 64-bit OS and programs and will help a bit more than single core 3.0 GHZ cpu because dual-core has 2 cores on a single cpu. Very good choice.

4 Star Review Good... but runs so HOT

Strengths:

Speed, multi-tasking

Weaknesses:

Runs friggin' hot

Posted Jul 2, 2006 - Let's just cut to the chase--I've got this installed on an ECS P4M800 PRO motherboard inside an Antec Sonata II case. The temperature at idle is 60C. If I let the stock fan go full blast (3000RPM+++), it idles at 48C+. And that is one noisy fan. I'll need to invest in a 3rd party cooling device to make this work reasonably. But the performance is good and the price is definitely right. I recommend this as a good value--not excellent value because I have to spend the extra $25 for a decent cooling device.

5 Star Review Dual Core

Strengths:

Fast, Reliable

Weaknesses:

None so far

Posted May 30, 2006 - Just replaced Pentium 830 with this one (did not cost me anything, otherwise would be waste of money). Running it on Asus P5wd2-e with no problem, overclocked 20% with stock cooling. Successfully ran Battlefield 2 server and client together, applying one core to each - no lag, smooth. Very nice processor

5 Star Review Great Multitasker

Strengths:

Great CPU. Idles at 35 C with stock cooler and artic silver compound. Great multitasker.

Weaknesses:

Not aware of any yet

Posted May 22, 2006 - I was playing Oblivion and diskkeeper 10 was set to auto defrag. When defrag is running while I'm in the game I don't even notice it. This is the best multitasking CPU I've ever used.

3 Star Review Dual Core 930 just TOO HOT

Strengths:

fast, speed ok

Weaknesses:

slow down after 8 months of used, power supply was fried in 7 months, not sure if it has to do with this CPU

Posted Jan 8, 2007 - I didn’t read any review about this processor when I brought it 8 months ago, never though that cooling was a problem since I’ve been with INTEL CPUs since pII, and so on. Never like to overclock my CPU since I usually just use stock cooling sink, plus doesn’t make much of difference if you don’t game a lot. But just last night, I experienced something new, my CPU was overheated. Luckily I had ASUS motherboard where it shuts the system when it detects that. No serious data or hardware damaged, but it really scares me, and it won’t boot until the CPU cools down. I finally have to open the case, take off the CPU fan, clean off the dirt on the sink and the fan. I am happy to see my system is running ago without any damages… But big minus for CPU 930 overheating….. Never experience any thing like this in older generation of CPU even without any cleaning for 5 years. If INTEL knows this CPU runs this hot, and it’s only a 3ghz CPU, what are we going to see in the future, with 4, 5, and 6ghz or more… Water cooling, ICE cooling, or case with refrigerators? It’s not making too much sense to get a faster CPU with this problem still is not resolved. But I would still recommend for those of you know what you are doing with hardware, if not, just be a little more careful when you pick them up, might end up frying your system. Good LUCK!

5 Star Review Dual Core Processor from Intel

Strengths:

Very fast and effective.

Weaknesses:

A little pricey.

Posted Mar 2, 2006 - Some people have stated that this processor runs too hot. I do not find this to be an issue, but my case (Antec 150) may be helping the situation as it does a super job of dissipating heat. So far, the chip has lived up to my expectations, although the dual core concept is too new for existing software to take advantage of its capabilities. I plan to update this review when such applications are available.

5 Star Review Pentium D 930 Dual Core Processor (3.0GHz, 4MB, 800MHz FSB, Socket 775)

Strengths:

Great for gaming and multi-tasking

Weaknesses:

can't find any yet

Posted May 9, 2006 - A lot of people have been having overheating problems with the CPU. Perhaps they should think of how they installed their heatsink. I'm using the stock heat sink and stock thermal pad on the CPU. It idles at 38c and top at 43-45 when loaded. Overall this is an amazing CPU and for the current price, you can't go wrong. I can recode and burn discs, download torrents and have a dozen windows opened while playing games. i have 3GB of memory installed, which helps a lot when multi-tasking.

5 Star Review Get it now!!!

Strengths:

It's a nice baby for overclocking... no doupt!!

Weaknesses:

I don't know yet

Posted May 11, 2006 - I have been reading in some customers posts that the 3.0 Dual Core runs very hot. That's a fake post probably. I bought this processor like 2 weeks ago, all I had in mind was that post that said the processor was running too hot and to be honest I even thought about returning it back. But I guess that will never happen. I received my 3.0 in 2 days, great service and fast shipping. And here is when this baby got the hell scared of me. I'm running that processor at 3.99 GHz with the stock cooler (fan) and everything else. I was able to take it up to 4.125 GHz following a guide I found online and it was still stable without adding any third party hardware at all. I just decided to go back to 3.99 due to I'm a hardcore user and I need my system to be running 24/7. I should add my neighbor next door is now buying exactly the same hardware I bought, same MB, same processor, RAM, etc. I don't know why they posted that this hardware was running so hot. I don't get it. Anyways, please guys, if any of you is an overclocker lover like I am I can only guarantee you this processor will make your dreams come true!! It's one of the kind, and Intel got my price again!! Ahh by the way DoomIII and all others games run smoothly, that's exactly the reason why Charlie, my neighbor, is getting the same I got... Great Intel's piece of art!

5 Star Review It's up to you

Strengths:

No bad, it's a Dual Core...

Weaknesses:

Read bellow...

Posted Apr 29, 2006 - IT DOES NOT SUPPORT Hyper Threading as it is posted in the Technical Information, this feature is avaliable in the EXTREME EDITION ONLY from Intel. I would reccomend to google a little bit before purchasing this Item cos' you could find the same processor with Speedstep® Technology included for maybe 10 bucks more expensive.

4 Star Review Good investment at today's prices

Strengths:

Lightning fast running x64

Weaknesses:

It does run hot Intel could have done better with the CPU conections and the mounting of the cooling fan.

Posted Jun 3, 2006 - Ask 9 out of 10 people who have purchased this processor and the first thing that they will say is that it does run hot 60C or so at 100% duty cycle. If yours does there are two areas to check, the mounting of the cooling fan sink to the motherboard, often the mounting pegs will pull free causing poor contact with the CPU and overheating big big trouble they are a pain to keep mounted; second, the thermal compound Intel’s fan uses is cr*p. They recommend believe it or not is to install a new fan sink assembly every time it is removed due to the degradation of this compound. Never, get rid of the junk and use either Arctic Silver 5 or Antec’s silver thermal compound. It will cool it down about 5 to 10 degrees. As far as performance, it’s a good buy for under two hundred but to get all the benefits of a dual core a 64 bit OS is a must. If you’re an overclocker and serious about performance provided you have plenty of inheritance the Extreme Edition that will handle 4 software threads is the way to go unless you like frying an egg on top of your computer case. (the heat has to go somewhere, physics 101) One thing to note is if you install this on a BTX motherboard you can expect better cooling (if you can find a BTX case that is) it cools like the old P3 slot one, vents directly out the case.

5 Star Review Dependable, Reliable, Intel Quality

Strengths:

Great Intel Quality and Reliability, Complete Package with Cooling Fan, Excellent Instructions

Weaknesses:

Pricey Compared to Competition, but well worth it!

Posted Jul 5, 2006 - I have been a long-time fan of Intel processors for home-built computers. In well over a decade, I have never had any trouble with an Intel processors. (I can't say the same for other processor manufacturers!) This package is a complete "turnkey" setup, with a cooling fan for installation into a new motherboard. The assembly instructions are large, easy-to-read, and straightforward. The processor works exactly as advertised.

3 Star Review Good Dual Core CPU

Strengths:

Powerful..

Weaknesses:

Core 2 Duo (Codename Conroe) makes this chip obsolete.. EIST is supported only from C1 stepping..

Posted Jul 29, 2006 - Intel D 930 rocks. It is based on 65nm manufacturing and the heat from the CPU is low compared with D 8xx series. When I used this CPU in Abit AW8-MAX with Scythe Ninja SCNJ-1000P cooler (the included cooler is loud), the temperature is mostly below 40C (idle temp is below 35C). Even if this is a very good CPU, Core 2 Duo (Codename Conroe) outperforms this. Conroe consumes 65W usually while this CPU consumes 130W. Also, check the stepping of the CPU. If it's C1 stepping (manuacture from June or later), it supports EIST and saves some electricity..But most available now is B1 stepping..

5 Star Review D930 runs Fine

Strengths:

Speed

Weaknesses:

None

Posted Jul 11, 2006 - I used the Pentium D930 as a temporary processor in a Abit Aw8-max until I was able to get my hands on a D950. I was satisfied with the results and will be building another system so that I can use it again. The D series rocks.

4 Star Review excellent processor

Strengths:

very fast and good overclocking capacity

Weaknesses:

hot, very hot indeed

Posted May 11, 2006 - the price is only a couple of dollars higher than the pentium d 920 when I purchase it. It is relatively easier to overclock than the 8XX series, mainly due to its 65 nm design (as opposed to 90 nm in the 8XX). In addition, it does not inherit the Prescott core, so not as hot as one would expect, but still pretty hot. Stock fan won't hold if you overclock! It jumps quickly to 64 degrees and then the TM2 function will kick in.
