3.2GHz - Retail - MPN: BX80553940
Strengths: Simple upgrade, powerful video compression, runs cool.
Weakness: Included heatsink mount flimsy.
I installed this processor in a compaq system the originally came with a celeron d 356. I primarily use this system for video conversion from dvd video to mp4 for psp using nero 7. I also use a system with an Athlon x2 3600, and a laptop with a core 2 duo t5200. This pentium d 940 beats them all, and runs cooler than a normal pentium 4. Idles at 28C and full load is 50C, using stock cooling in the compaq and only one exhaust fan on the case.
For a little perspective, to compress Lord of the Rings 3 on the Celeron D 356 would take about 3 hours with highest quality settings. The Pentium D 940 only takes 42 minutes installed in the exact same system. For about $100 that is a huge gain. It's about 10% faster than the amd x2 3600 and also faster than the core 2 duo in the laptop (mainly because of heat in the laptop). Definitely worth the upgrade, but if I was building a system from scratch, I would go with C2D, as prices for those are falling quickly.

TopStrengths: Everything about it. It stays cool it runs fast. What more can you ask for. Well maybe the 3.4 Ghz. HaHa!!
Weakness: None, and ive been running it non stop for about three months. When its not taking a nap...
I purchased this processor at the same time my friend bought a processor and mine is running like a champ. His has had problems non stop. I would recommend this processor to any one who doesnt want to run a dual core. You will get what you pay for. Thanks Price Grabber.

TopStrengths: Cheap price, best deal for price range, huge 4mb L2 cache, Intel quality
Weakness: Heat, runs very hot, not sure if its a TRUE dual-core
I upgraded to this CPU from a AMD 2800+. I can say, I notice increase speeds in everything from program application to game play. Easy to overclock, runs at around 113-118 - so doesn't overheat like many think. However, I heard that it does run hot (haven't experienced yet). I think this processor is great - perfect balance of price and speed. Recommended!!!

TopStrengths: Great proccesor. Fast, powerful number cruncher. Great for multitasking office work and for gaming.
Weakness: Runs pretty hot with the stock fan. Also, stock fan is really loud. Stock HSF is a little hard to get on, just be careful, and no problem.
I do a lot of online gaming, and sometimes run 3 or 4 clients, as well as a browser and Trillian IM client, plus all the background apps, and i have not had any problems since. Thank you Intel for programming your processors to shut down when they overheat.
The first time i installed this proc, i didn't get all of the little feet snapped in on the HSF, so it wouldn't boot due to the proc overheating. Took off HSF and re-installed it and its been working perfectly since. If it wasn't for Intel programming their chips to shut down upon overheating, i would have one fried Intel Pentium D 940.

TopStrengths: Dual Core with 3.2 GHz speed, Comes with heatsink and fan
Weakness: none so far
I installed this processor on Gigabyte 8I945PLG motherboard. Easy installation was easy. I have been using it for last four months without a problem. I burn and played DVDs and CDs with no problem. I reinstalled OS several times without any problem. My computer never got stuck. I am not a gamer so I don't how it is with gaming. I recommend this processor for the price it selling now.

TopStrengths: Economically priced.
Weakness: Weak stock fan.
Recently bought this CPU and an Intel motherboard as a combo at an electronics giant superstore. With the release of the speedier Conroe chips, the pricing for this CPU has made it quite the bargain compared to a year ago. Installation was a breeze, but I suspect that I would need to upgrade the included stock fan to do any decent overclocking. Nevertheless, I am glad I purchased this to replace my vintage P4 2.8 Northwood.

TopStrengths: Dual Core with 64 bit.
Weakness: Heatsink fan could use a bit improvement.
I use this processor with a ASUS P5P800 SE motherboard and it rocks. It installs the OS fast. I installed the WinXP 64bit and everything works great. Haven't tried overclocking though (dont need it at this speed.) I tried running the virus scanner and the disk defragmenter both at once and the processor stayed at 65%-70% usage. Plus I was able to surf the internet at the same time without any kind of slowness. That's cool. Next thing I am going to try is authouring a dvd. But its a great processor and a great bargain buy since the prices are dropping now.

TopStrengths: Great overclocking ability to 3.80+ even with DDR400 Ram. Runs very cool with a Zalman 9500 Cooler
Weakness: It takes a decent quality motherboard to bring out the best in this chip.
I have mine installed in an Asus P5P800-SE motherboard. My original plan called for an overclock to 3.60. It was so easy to get it to 3.60 that I just kept going. At 3.90, heat becomes an issue even with the Zalman 9500 cooler. For me, this was to be a budget upgrade using some parts from my 3.0 Prescott. I used the drives, memory (Corsair XMS), 9500 cooler, 1 120mm 57cfm case fan and the Video card (AGP). I spent a total of $375 including tax and shipping. While I could have spent less for an Intel D805 system, I felt that the D940 was the better choice. The way the prices are dropping on the D940, someone today could build the same system I have for about $50 less. How fast is it, well 20,000 MIPS don't lie! The D940 at $240 today is a great buy. It gives you Performance that would cost around $200 more to equal with a stock processor and running at 3.80 it's as fast as an Athlon 64 x2 4800+ at close to $400 less! Buy one!!

Pentium D 940 Dual Core Processor (3.2GHz, 4MB,...
Strengths: Speed
Weakness: Not good as quadcore
This is a good processor. It works as if your system has two processors. I did benchmark with Intel core 2 quad 2.4 Ghz. I was expecting that It will will have half of quad core speed. But it has only one third speed. Good purchase for the price.
