The venerable Athlon 64 X2 series of processors are still available to buyers who want a simple, inexpensive, and capable dual-core processor. The Athlon 64 X2 6000+ is clocked in at 3.0GHz stock, and can be overclocked a little. However, for those who wish to have overclocking abilities it may be more prudent to step up an extra $20 (originally $80) for the Phenom II X2 550s. The Athlon 62 X2 is frequently seen in bundled deals for a CPU/Motherboard/RAM combo and is great for a secondary PC, home theater PC, or a home server where processing power isn't a major concern. Posted Feb 22, 2007 - At the moment though, Intel’s Core 2 processors are simply a better choice to base a new build around because they’re generally faster, more overclockable and less power hungry than AMD’s relatively competitive Athlon 64 X2 products. If, however, you’ve already built your system around AM2 and are just looking for a speed upgrade, the X2 6000+ is currently the fastest AM2 processor available and probably the last K8 to be released before Barcelona shows up later this year. - Read Full Review
