5 Star Review Reasonably priced core2duo!

Strengths:

2 processors good price 4MB cache 1333 MHz FSB

Weaknesses:

none

Posted Sep 3, 2007 - I almost bought the older E6400 processor for a significantly higher price when I noticed Intel has launched another processor which is cheaper and almost as fast! This has a faster FSB too - 1333 MHz. It also has Intel's VT tech, which is nice if you are running virtual machines. 2 years back having dual processors was a dream, only realized in the server market. Now everyone has 2 core processors which are effectively even faster than having two seperate processors ! This processor comes with a heatsink and fan combo which is surprisingly quiet. Intel has inplemented some new tech which dramatically reduces the noise and fan speed. Vista runs amazingly fast on this processor. I installed it on a Intel DP35 Motherboard, booted instantly, no hassles ! Overall as of today's days this is a best buy !

5 Star Review Intel c2d e6550 review

Strengths:

65nm core(better efficiency) + good 2.33 GHz + 1333MHz FSB + 4M cache @ good price

Weaknesses:

Stock fan not great for overclocking. Had a hard time fixing the stock fan which needs to be pushed onto the board.

Posted Aug 16, 2007 - I was about to buy a e6420 but the price was very tempting, so waited for over a month to grab this since its announcement by Intel. Paired this with gigabyte p35-ds3r and crucial ballistix 1066MHz to get a solid build running at stock speeds. The stock fan keeps the CPU at around 30C and at 40-45C at heavy loads. I have 2 fans in my antec sonata II which also contributes to the lower temperature, I think. Haven't overclocked yet, but am sure it will be a decent overclocker which is enough for me. In all a very recommended processor.

4 Star Review A decent processor from Intel

Strengths:

It’s an Intel!

Weaknesses:

Besides the $, none

Posted Dec 29, 2007 - Once you decide on Intel over AMD, which one to get? Core Due, Core 2 Duo, Core 2 Quad, Core 2 Extreme? I decided that for an average user (non-gamer) like me, Core 2 Duo is sufficient. The higher-ups (Core 2 Quad and Core 2 Extreme) will cost more than an average complete system. Then, the next question is which Core 2 Duo? I decided to go for the one with the best price/performance ratio, though I am certain this matrix is changing continuously. The E6550 was it. It is 2.33 GHz (midway between 1.8 and 3), a 4 MB L2 cache (the largest in the Core 2 Duo family) and a FSB of 1333 MHz (the fastest in the family). Yes, I am aware of the memory speed sync issue. The E6550 is not the fastest and is not the best but it is sufficient for me. I brought the retail package, not the OEM package. The only difference is that the retail package comes with a big heat-sink and fan unit. For several dollars more, the retail package is a better value, unless one has a bigger and better heat-sink and fan unit. Be careful, there is some heat transfer glue/jell on the heat-sink. Don’t touch it and don’t whip it off. The mounting instruction for the heat-sink and fan unit is either not clear or totally incorrect. It took me more than half hour to mount and install the unit correctly. This is my first time in more than a decade in building a new system. Examine and understand how the pin mechanism works first before trying. Once I understand the mechanism, it only took me several minutes to correct the errors and mount the unit correctly.

5 Star Review Core 2 Duo E6550

Strengths:

1333 FSB and just a little slower than the E6750

Weaknesses:

None, It just works

Posted Sep 10, 2007 - I chose this processor over the E6750 and it saved me at least $30.00. I'll get around to overclocking it and report back with my findings. Very happy with this processor.

5 Star Review Good OCer

Strengths:

OCs well to 3.2ghz, reliable, stays very cool

Weaknesses:

I don't see any

Posted Sep 10, 2007 - It's easy to install, comes with a stock fan (don't use that, get like a tuniq tower or water cooling if you want to OC it to the max).... Make sure you have good RAM as well. It's a solid chip, great job intel.

4 Star Review Great Processor

Strengths:

Quite heatsink/fan, great price; runs cools when no overclocking

Weaknesses:

No hyperthreading (but I don't need it)

Posted Oct 2, 2007 - This is a great processor that runs cool at 41 C when not overclocked with my MOBO Gigabyte. My Pentium 4 runs very hot comparatively. I haven't noticed an apparent speed advantage over my older Pentium 4 3.0 GHz though. I think my P4 is faster since I'm able to take advantage of my MOBO's AHCI support (it has an ASUS board). With this one, the gigabyte board (GA-P35-DS3L) does not support AHCI, so it might be slower HDD speed. Otherwise, this processor seems to be very efficient.

4 Star Review excellent processor!

Strengths:

great price, and stays relatively cool

Weaknesses:

none at all.

Posted Jan 29, 2008 - I bought this for a very cheap price and discovered that it was worth it. Along with it's abilities to stay cool and even quiet, prices compared to other processors at the same power just can't beat it.

5 Star Review Good processor for the price you pay

Strengths:

G0 stepping, fast with less power consumption, overclock well

Weaknesses:

7X multiplier

Posted Aug 29, 2007 - Very fast processor with relative low price. G0 stepping (less power consumption) makes it running at a lower temperature. Idle at 32 and never go over 40 with a Zalman Cooler installed. I have heard that it also has great overclock ability. You can easily go 3.0Ghz and it's still rock stable. The only downside of this processor is that it has 7Xmultiplier while other Intel CPUs have 8X or 9X. This will really hold overclocking back. But I guess I'm not a die-hard overclocking fan, so it's actually a non-factor to me. Great processor, highly recommended!

4 Star Review 6550 good value

Strengths:

As everybody here said is 65 (it doesn't get to hot) 2.33, OC indeed very well, and paired with a good air cooler goes very well up

Weaknesses:

NONE

Posted Mar 10, 2008 - I bought 6 months ago the ASUS mobo P5K3 deluxe, I got back then 2 gb DDR3 Kingstone 1066 modules Value Ram, and with Sapphire ATI HD2600XT GDR4 memories runs Vista in 64 bits very very fast. I have

4 Star Review Intel Core 2 Duo E6550 2.33GHz 1333MHz FSB

Strengths:

1333FSB and for the fact that this CPU costs as much as the 1.8GHz Core 2 Duo 1066FSB.

Weaknesses:

The first processor I purchased was DOA so I had to send out for a replacemnt. The CPU fan is made poorly!

Posted Dec 20, 2007 - I wasn't too thrilled that the first processor I received was DOA, but after getting a working one I was fine. The 1333FSB give this processor a good kick and this is probably the best processor out there in it's price range. I've always used Intel based systems because they not only make the best desktop processors but the best notebook processors too. The heatsink/fan that comes with the 775 socket processors is really poorly made, its hard to put on, loud, and doesn't do a very good job cooling the CPU. I've always put on an aftermarket CPU cooler which is much better for overclocking too.

5 Star Review Great mid-priced processor

Strengths:

Not too expensive. Very fast performance. Runs extremely cool and quiet.

Weaknesses:

none

Posted Dec 5, 2007 - Even with the stock heatsink this processor runs extremely cool and is very quiet. It is not too expensive considering it's huge 2x2 MB cache and lightning fast 1333 MHz FSB. Very fast performance for such an inexpensive CPU. My only note, since this was my first socket 775 install maybe this is normal, I don't know... When closing the CPU retention bracket, it made a very loud click just before it closed completely. I opened it to see if the CPU was OK, and it was. So I closed it up again and it made the same horrid noise, but it's working like a champ!

5 Star Review Core 2 Duo E6550 Dual Core Processor Review

Strengths:

Cheap, Cool

Weaknesses:

Fan

Posted Dec 1, 2007 - The Intel Core 2 Duo E6550 Dual Core Processor (2.33GHz, 2x2MB, 1333MHz FSB, LGA775 is a good processor for every day needs. I previously built a system with a Quad Core and quickly learned it was overkill, this processor runs much more cool and with a Zalmn 9500 fan it's the best setup you can get for your dollar. The bus speed is 1333MHz and rarely does Windows Vista peg out the CPU.

4 Star Review Great Mid range CPU

Strengths:

good overclockability. 4MB L2 cache, which is important to me.

Weaknesses:

Wish it were just a hair cheaper of course. As Quad core is coming out more now, these will continue to drop I expect.

Posted Dec 1, 2007 - You can't beat the price/performance ratio of this chip. It would be nice to step up to the 6750 for the multiplier, but this should work out just fine. I was a little worried that Phenom would debut at a better price/performance after I purchased this (even though it's kinda apples to oranges), but it doesn't seem to be the case. Very Happy!

5 Star Review Unbelievable!!!

Strengths:

1333MHz FSB, Dual core @ 2.33 Ghz -- simply awesome!

Weaknesses:

Haven't seen anything noticeable yet!

Posted Oct 5, 2007 - This piece of hardware is blazing fast.. the first processor I have seen so far that runs Vista so very well. FSB speed of 1333 MHz is amazing. That should take care of any bottlenecks in data flow from NB and should make full use of memory bandwidth. Another noteworthy thing is that this processor is truly 'cool' even at these high frequencies. I haven't really looked around for more competitive prices but I am sure such wonderful product at these prices is definitely a "Go! Grab It!" deal. I am very happy with the performance so far. Surely recommended!!

5 Star Review good cpu

Strengths:

fsb 1333, not expensive

Weaknesses:

none

Posted Sep 28, 2007 - I got this for $165, which I think is a very good price. Along with a FSB 1333 mb and 4gb memory, the machine works perfectly. Recommend this CPU for everyone.
