Check out the most significant architectural change in the x86 architecture in 13 years, the Intel Core i7. Intel has completely reinvented their CPU design, removing the antiquated Front Side Bus and replacing it with the Intel QuickPath Interconnect, delivering up to 6.4 GT/s. Also the Core i7 line is the integrated memory controller, supporting Triple Channel DDR3 Memory allowing for more maximum memory, up to 24GB on some boards, and faster access times. Located directly on the CPU die is 256KB per core of L2 cache and 8MB L3 cache shared across all four cores means the CPU can do more without having to access the main memory, further increasing performance. minimize

5 Star ReviewBest Intel Processor for Overclocking

Posted 1 year ago - Bestcovery's experts have ranked this the #1 Best Intel Processor for Overclocking, #1 Best Processor for Overclocking, #3 Best Intel Processor for Performance, and #3 Best High End Processor. The Core i7 920 is the enthusiast's choice when it comes to a processor that provides an excellent combination of raw performance, overclocking headroom, and value. The i7 920 represents the “budget” sector of Intel’s LGA1366 lineup and it has the lowest frequency speed of all of the Nehalem chips; nevertheless, it still offers performance above and beyond that of Intel’s older LGA 775 processors. The 920 offers the same Hyper Threading and other architectural features of the Nehalem design. It is also an excellent overclocker as well as a powerful processor for a reasonable price. The i7 920 is a screamer when overclocked and since its release has maintained relatively good value considering its performance. The Core i7 can easily overclock past its stock frequency, even on default voltage settings. It frequently sees overclocking past 4GHz with good air cooling and a slight bump in voltage. This processor exhibits extreme performance surpassing that of a stock i7 975 and comes at a fifth of the price. Overall, the Core i7 920 can't come more highly recommended as a great Intel processor for overclocking. - Read Full Review

3.5 Star ReviewIntel Core i7

Posted 4 months ago - Intel Core i7 is currently a family of three Intel Desktop x86-64 processors, Core i7 is the first Intel family to be released using the Intel Nehalem microarchitecture and is the successor to the Intel Core 2 family. All three models are quad-core processors. The Core i7 identifier applies to the initial family of processors codenamed Bloomfield. The moniker Core i7 does not have a deeper meaning, but continues the use of the successful Core brand. Core i7 was officially launched on November 17, 2008 in the USA. ... PROS: (1) support for triple channel DDR3 (2) latest, fastest architecture (3) first Intel processor to have an on die memory controller (4) low idle power consumption (5) Decent Boxed Cooler ... CONS: (1) requires a new socket - impossible for people to just upgrade their CPUs (2) high TDPs means these chips are very hot and use a lot of power (3) not that big of an upgrade for those interested in gaming (4) Only insanely-priced 965 XE has unlocked multiplier (Phenom II with unlocked multiplier is available at 1/4 the price) - Read Full Review

5 Star ReviewOverclocking The Core i7 920 Processor

Posted Nov 30, -0001 - Judging just the processor alone, the Core i7 920 delivers excellent performance at a respectable price range of about $250 - $300. Even at stock speeds, it's a pretty good value, but when you throw overclocking into the mix, the 920 becomes a much more attractive option. - Read Full Review
