kenalcock - (July 08, 2004) This processor is powerful. And if you want to save on household utility bills, you can heat at least one room with it. I’m not joking at all here—it runs that hot. I recommend this processor, only if you are willing to go the extra steps to ensure better CPU cooling. This CPU’s normal operating temperature was near 60-62°C in a PC with: a 4-fan Aluminum Coolermaster Praetorian case, all round system cables, wrapped, and stowed for maximum “wind tunnel” system airflow; no system load; a video card that runs cool; HDDs that run very cool; no overclocking; and on a cool Spring day (60°F ambient room temperature). This was with the stock Intel heat sink and fan. I have m

AlexanderAkulick - (June 06, 2003) I replaced an 1800XP Palomino running stable at 2.25 Ghz. with this 3000XP and noticed much faster boot-up and 0 screen freezes in my heavily loaded system at 333FSB or 364FSB. Haven't tested it extensively yet but I have noticed it runs 2 to 4 degrees cooler than the 1800XP at their stock Mhz. and overclocked lightly (200Mhz.) using the same HSF. This is probably due to the lower factory core voltage. Early testing shows increases in Mhz. are slightly better than the 1800XP using the FSB and voltage only. ***UPDATE 7/31/03*** The performance gains were great at the stock clock but I have now attained my goal of 3Ghz. stable - air cooled - and I am as pleased as I could be.

jayhall0315 - (January 15, 2006) I have discontinued this review because as any tech geek knows, times change and better products are manufactured. If you are currently in need of a high end processor then take a look at the Intel Core 2 Duo series. Intel has come back from the edge and has now bested any of AMD's latest offerings. (My review from here was written in March of 2006) When I first got into building power computers for my graduate research a few years back, I said, "Amd, smay-m-d". Nothing was better than a Pentium. Then I noticed the fans in my box making a hell of a whirling sound. Even later, I noticed my BIOS reporting 77 degrees C for the CPU ! (WTF !!!) To cap it off, I saw my friend's AMD box run game

5 Star Review Core i7-920 Quad Core Processor (2.66GHz, 4x256kB, 4.8GT/s QPI, LGA 1336 Socket B)

stedon1 - (08/03/2009) I didn't want to pay the premium for the latest i7 core, so this one is a bargain. Easily souped up to satisfy most people. Even stock speed is fast. I am not a gamer! I overclocked because I could.

tomcas - (07/21/2009) How do review something that is in essence a commodity. It installed easily and draws little enought current to run fine with an old power supply. It was a good value at the time of purchase, performs well, and will never die. AMD is a much better value Intel.

5 Star Review This processor ROCKS.

ramairmustang - (06/28/2009) Im using this processor on this board Gigabyte GA-G31M-ES2L and it is amazing. The board is only around $52 at most place's. I am using cheap $13 DDR2 800 ram. Set the ram to run at 2.0 options are 2.00 2.50 and 3.00 and set your cpu up to 3.0Ghz turn off IEST and set your voltages to auto. Your DDR2 800 ran will run at like 858 easily. I have sense put in some corsair DDR2 1066 ram and am running at 3.46Ghz using an Artic Freezer 7 Pro heat sink, IC7 Dimond thermal paste, Antec 300 case with 4 Antec TriCool 120mm 79 cfm fans and my temps are 30c idel and 48c load. I ran Orthos for 72hours straight without any issues. This CPU and Motherboard combo is virtually bullet proof with the overclock I stated above.
