Comparison Between Windows Vista and XP Pro SP2 When Using Q6600?

Discussion of Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Processor

Posted Aug 23, 2007 - I purchased Windows XP Pro SP2 last year but I didn't use it. Lately, I've been reading Intel Quad Core 2 Q6600 reviews and about its recent price drop. Compared to Vista, what would the performance be if I used XP Pro SP2 instead? I've read a number of Q6600 reviews and the testers all seem to use XP Pro SP2. Vista has a new feature for quad cores called "load balancing." How much of a difference would it make if I used XP without this feature? I will be running 2 CPU intensive business apps and a special permanent memory resident disk program. If I bought the Q6600, in XP if possible, I would manually assign the last 3 cores to these tasks. I would leave the first core for regular system usage and other apps. Would this setup work in XP and would there be any performance difference compared to Vista? I do not want to buy a whole new set of software again. Thanks.

still available under $300 US!!

Discussion of AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor

Posted Aug 22, 2006 - AMD isn't making anymore so no stores will get more stock! The cheapest price is $399 now, bc the other stores are sold out. I got 3 NIB before they sold out and will sell them for $295 each with hsf and 3 year warranty. The 2x1mb makes them a hot commodity with gamers, and the am2 platform makes them a gem for overclockers. Get your hands on one to game, overclock, or resell (now that they're sold out you can sell em for $400+). n3lsonPCs@hotmail.com

Athlon 64 X2 3800+ Overheating

Discussion of Processors - Retail Box

Posted Feb 17, 2006 - Hi everybody. I've just bought & installed a fabulous Athlon 64 X2 3800+. I'm quite new to the hardcore PC tuning scene, so I don't get completely terms like Cool'n'Quiet, Q-fan and the like. One thing for sure I noticed fron the start: my system is thermally crap! I mean: this CPU is known for being literally cool when running. Mine goes to 76°C after 2 minutes of idling in Windows Desktop. Chipset is around 65°C and GeForce 7800GT is around 77°C. I'm no expert, but it looks to me my case looks like an oven. The case is a desktop model and I think that might cause some of the overheating, but this much? Maybe stack cool 2 on my asus MB is working the wrong way since the case is small compared to miditowers and heat is just brought back inside the case. I don't know what to think. The PSU is external since the desktop case is too small for it to fit. So bye-bye to PSU fan cooling inside the case. I probably need a couple of fans to suck the hot air out from the case, but will it suffice? I mean, this overall temperature rise could be caused only by the lack of a case fan? The only fans I have in my system are the boxed CPU fan from AMD, the fan on the video card and the extra fan supplied with motherboard Asus A8N32-SLi Deluxe, mounted on the MOSFETs heatsink. Please someone with some experience could help me find a way to get to normal temperatures in my system? Thanks alot!
