Intel Pentium 4 3.06GHz Processor

Strengths: Chip installed very easiely, Mother board reconized chip. Very well packaged product. Fast dual processoring.

Weakness: Using Windows XP the computer would lock up when doing some activities. Disabled Hyper Threading and the problem was solved.

This is a great chip but as I said the Hyper Threading locked the computer up when I ran DVD copy programs. You can solve this problem by disabling the HT in the system setup. I solved this problem by upgrading from windows XP to XP professional and now everything runs great. I would recommend this chip to anyone that is doing heavy video editing, plus the price is right.

This has been out since 2002 and in early 2003 i completed and built a computer around it, it out performed everything until the the new core 2 chips came out. It's a solid performer and been running continuously without issues for over 3 years.

I paid over $600 for this back in 2003 and at $217 it's a steal. This is a perfect CPU for everything except HEAVY video and graphics editing. It multi-tasks exceptionally well under XP pro and I wont be needing a new CPU until I decide to take the Core 2 to task when i build a new system sometime in late 2007. To get 4 years out of a CPU is exceptional and this is an exceptional CPU.

Do any of you experts know if this Intel 4 Northwood is compatible with my DELL DIMENSION 4300

It has a Pentium (R) 4 CPU 1.60 GHZ, 512MB of RAM. I purchased it in 2000. Would this processor even work in this older system, I am not sure what my socket model is? Possibly N, but I am not sure how to confirm...

I am wanting to do some video processing and high res pictures processing. Would it be better off if I just bought a newer tech system? Like a higher end AMD with the newer high tech DDR RAM, etc?

I would appreciate and advice from the experts.

Thanks,

dkenkel
