The Sony XBR '950 series are rear-projection LCD TVs that include a built-in HDTV tuner. There are two key factors that determine the picture quality of "fixed-pixel" TVs like this XBR Grand Wega: the pixel count of the display panel(s), and the video processing circuitry. The KDF-70XBR950 uses three LCD elements (one each for the red, green, and blue signals), and each is packed with over one million pixels (1386 x 788 better than 720p). minimize

4 Star Review SONY KDF-70XBR950

Strengths:

GREAR PICTURE, GREAT SOUND THIS TV HAS IT ALL

Weaknesses:

BULB BURNS OUT TO OFTEN

Posted Dec 17, 2005 - THIS LCD TV IS EXCELLENT THE PICTURE QUALITY IS THERE ITS ALL THERE. ONE MORE THING THE ONLY PROBLEM IS THE BULB IT COST ABOUT 180 DOLLARS. WHEN BULB STARTS TO WEAR YOU SEE THE PICTURE STARTS TO FADE OVER TIME. THEN THE BULB BURNS OUT OR EXPLODES. WHEN I PURCHASE THIS TV I WAS TOLD ITS BETTER THEN PLASMA AND IT WILL LAST FOR A VERY LONG TIME. (LCD BULBS LAST ABOUT 3000 HOURS THEY DON'T TELL YOU THAT )MY TV IS 2 YEARS OLD I WENT THROUGH 3 BULBS ALREADY AND I PURCHASED THE EXTENDED WARRANTY. THE EXTENDED SERVICE ALWAYS FIGHTS ME TO REPLACE THE BULB. THERE QUESTION TO ME, DID THE BULB EXPLODE IF NOT THE WE CANT COVER IT, WE ONLY COVER THE BULB IF IT EXPLODES. SO THE LCD TV IS GREAT BUT BE PREPARED TO REPLACE THE BULBS OFTEN

5 Star Review It's Dependable

Strengths:

Picture quality

Weaknesses:

None

Posted 3 months ago - I purchased my big 70" in July of 2004. Today I had to replace the lamp. This is after 5 years of service and 11,000 hours on the unit. I am 63 years old and have been watching TV since the mid 50's. This is the best of the best. I will continue replacing the lamp every 5 years, but next time I will do it myself and save the service call.

5 Star ReviewIt is BIG! actually HUGE! That is the word coming ...

Strengths:

BIG!

Weaknesses:

N/A

Posted Jan 3, 2005 - It is BIG! actually HUGE! That is the word coming out of every visitor's mouth the moment they see it. Crystal clear even without the HD cable box coming next week. Cleanest streamline design among all the big TVs, state-of-the-art look, not a hulking monster as all other big screens. Highest quality and brand image, certainly the biggest TV. To the guys who need the biggest and best, one TV to rule them all, this is IT! This 70" is the King, it eliminates all potential competition, it is futile to even try. As far as value, not so sure. Sony 60" is half the price, other 60"s are even less, just as crystal clear. I am not sure if the extra 10" is worth $3000-$5800. I decided not to buy the $1000 72"W Sony matching TV stand, 15" height is just too low, a matching 40"W silver TV stand from IKEA is $60, taller and looks even better.

5 Star ReviewI've worked my way up over the years from an RCA 4 ...

Strengths:

Great picture quality. HD channels are absolutely amazing. DVD's are better than being at the theatre. Can't wait for Hi Def DVD's, although how can the picture improve......

Weaknesses:

None that I know of, especially not at the price it's selling for these days.

Posted Mar 13, 2006 - I've worked my way up over the years from an RCA 42" bigscreen, through Panosonic and this is my second Sony (last one a 61"). There is no comparison. Anyone with decent set of eyes will be blown away by the picture quality. I am glad I bought it when I did, even though the price has dropped since then. Wouldn't have wanted to miss out on over a year's worth of great entertainment. Highly recommended isn't high enough!
