5 Star Review Toshiba 62HM196 DLP HDTV great value for the price

Strengths:

Excellent picture in HD And SD. More features than other DLPS in same price range. Easy to set up very user friendly.

Weaknesses:

color and vidio settings heeded some major adjusting to suit personal tastes

Posted Jan 26, 2007 - Only had TV for 4 days but am very happy with it after making video adjustments. I did allot of research before buying and had decided on Toshiba over Sony and Samsung models of similar size.Toshiba had many more features and was $100 to $250 cheaper. I have TV hooked up to cable box and over air antenna to get local HDTV stations. HDTV channels received by antenna are awesome. Even The SD channels from the cable box are very good. I also have a SONY 51" projection HDTV and the TOSHIBA SD reception over cable is much better. Digital channels received from cable box are about same on both TV sets. The HDTV picture is better on the TOSHIBA than the SONY. The only complaint I have is color and picture quality seem vary more than expected from one channel to another. Did many adjustments to try and smooth out the differences. It is mostly noticeable on stations with poorer picture quality. Overall this is a great HDTV at a GREAT PRICE.

4 Star Review Toshiba 62

Strengths:

A great value for the money. Toshiba technical support resolved some minor problems quickly. (Bad Remote)

Weaknesses:

Sound is barely adequate. Recomend an external sound system. TV does not support a 1080P signal. Significant blurring is noted on programs where there is fast panning of camera as in hockey games.

Posted Mar 15, 2007 - The set delivers a great picture from DVD's. I have not switched to HD service from Dish yet, but the pictures look good if you are a minimum of 10 feet from screen, except where fast panning is encountered. I am hoping this will not happen with a true HD signal.

5 Star Review FABULOUS 1080P HD DLP WITHOUT THE HIGH END PRICE!

Strengths:

Great picture quality on both HD and standard def channels because all channels are upconverted within the tv to near HD. Previous issues with the bulb life have been resolved. Must be seen.

Weaknesses:

None. Worked flawlessly from the start.

Posted Oct 7, 2006 - This is my second Toshiba projection TV; my first was a CRT model. Both have far exceeded expectations and never given any problems. With Toshiba you get high end technology without the high end price. I compared all the models "recommended by CNET" and none even came close to delivering comparable picture quality and size for the $$$. The CNET editors seem to have a bias away from Toshiba toward higher priced models with smaller screen sizes. View this model side by side with the "editors choices" in the high priced retail stores and then buy it for less on the internet like I did. A weeks delivery time can save you big $$$ including delivery!

5 Star Review Toshiba 62hm196 is a great hdtv!

Strengths:

Picture quality is fantastic and the menus are easy to navigate and setup.

Weaknesses:

None that I have found yet.

Posted Dec 9, 2006 - If you are looking for a great dlp tv that won't break the bank, this is it. I chose the Toshiba over the Samsung 6187 because the picture seemed to be a little crisper, and the price was a little better. The colors on this model are deep and the contrast between light and dark images is phenomenal. Consumer reports had this set rated highest amongst dlp sets and they were right on the money. Hooking up my dvd player, hd satellite receiver, and surround sound was a breeze. Plenty of inputs(+2 HDMI inputs) made getting my system up and running easy and very manageable to use. I highly recommend this tv for prospective dlp buyers.

5 Star Review Excellent Deal

Strengths:

Great pictures on both HD and standard cable. Excellent features, easy to set up. This model was just rated #1 by Consumer Reports and they say that Toshiba's repair history is better than most.

Weaknesses:

None

Posted Dec 2, 2006 - This TV is a great value. I got mine online for $1804.00 on the day after Thanksgiving. So far I am very pleased. The features are good, the remote is awsome. Now if I can just get my sourround sound system connected I will be in business.

4 Star Review There IS a weakness

Strengths:

N/A

Weaknesses:

Can not accept 1080P Input

Posted Jan 9, 2007 - For those of the Blu-Ray/HD-DVD set, if you are big on watching them, get another set. This one will NOT accept 1080P. You would think a 1080P tv this expensive would do what almost all other 1080P units would do.

5 Star Review toshiba 62hm196; all good

Strengths:

picture quality; 2 hdmi inputs; extra inputs on side (for the wii); ease of use; price; ranked #1 in consumer reports

Weaknesses:

none

Posted Feb 15, 2007 - excellent picture; excellent price; weighs just over 100#; easy to set up and use; automatically sets up to the picture type being sent; all the inputs you could want; remote is fine; don't know about TV speakers as hooked up other speakers; bought a TV stand at a furniture store as wasn't thrilled with the quality and price of the one made for the TV.

3 Star Review Beware of the "DLP Tax!"

Strengths:

Great picture

Weaknesses:

Toshiba's failure to address/correct bulb life issue

Posted Jul 19, 2007 - I bought this TV in Nov 06 (manf Oct 06). GREAT picture... but it started to go dimmer in June and in July, POP!! I do a search for Toshiba DLP bulb replacement and there are THOUSANDS of hits on the problems with the bulbs in Toshiba's DLP TVs. Some bulbs only last 2-3 months. Toshiba is aware of the problem and extended the warranty on the ORIGINAL bulb to 2 years... but on replacement bulbs it is only 180 days. There are numerous people who have had to replace bulbs a couple times a year. At $200 a pop, this is one heck of a "tax" to operate this TV. The picture is great and I love the TV, but if I knew I'd have to spend $200 a year to keep it going, I'd have just spent that money towards something that would last me longer. Google the subject before you buy so you'll be an informed consumer!

4 Star Review Awesome HDTV

Strengths:

Price, size

Weaknesses:

no true 1080p

Posted Jun 14, 2007 - The only thing I have a gripe about really is it doesn't support TRUE 1080p...despite the manual, website and everything else saying so. It only takes up to 1080i input and the television upconverts it to 1080p. For the nonbelievers, check here: www.tacp.toshiba.com/t... Scroll down past all the BS and get to the little blue box on the right hand side that says "Specifications" and read the highest input /1080i. The only reason I even know is because I wrote Toshiba's customer support asking why I wasn't getting 1080p. Pretty lame IMHO, but still very nice nonetheless. Well....live and learn I guess :)
