52HM84 52" DLP Projection TV (16:9, HDTV)
Very bright, gorgeous silver finish, and slim profile.
Not enough digital connections, for $3000+ I'd expect at least 2 HDMI or a DVI input. Vertical viewing angle is not great.
Posted Oct 31, 2005 - I had this for a little over a week and absolutely love showing it off. It looks extremely sexy when paired with the ST5284 Toshiba stand (fits in like a piece a furniture). However, the depth is slightly longer than the competing Samsung model, P5063W. It's also slightly heavier, but after setting everything up and watching the Matrix Reloaded DVD on this thing, the contrast and brightness blows away the Samsung competition. One thing to beware is that Toshiba is not very PC friendly. Unlike the Samsung 5063W model, this TV lacks a DVI input so you'll need to buy a DVI to HDMI adapter if you want to hook up a PC for an HTPC setup. But once you see how gorgeous web surfing and PC gaming on this TV looks, you'll forget the extra effort. I'd recommend this hands down over the Samsung model. (Edit: I am aware that the manual says pc connection is not supported. But I've now owned this model for over a year, using it for an HTPC (Home Theater PC) setup without any problems. All you need is a cheap HDMI-to-DVI adapter (search google!). Ignore the difference between DVI-D and DVI-I as it will be backwards compatible. However, I only tested on two graphics cards so far, Nvidia Ti4600 and ATI Radeon 9800Pro. Anything newer than those should work, and both Nvidia and ATI's newer drivers will auto-detect the resolution for your TV. Good luck!)
