Posted Jul 4, 2007 - I love my Samsung HDTV. I compared LCD, LCoS, Plasma and DLP. DLP in my mind won hands down. I did not want a mechanical TV(ie. Mitsubishi). I don't have to worry about buying a $250.00 replacement lamp, or a new color wheel. My HD channels are magnificently clear and crisp(whether over the air signals or Directtv signals)! It is only about 16" deep! It provides me with several format(picture) modes including, 480P, 480I, 720P, 1080I,1080P(only for video games and some movies right now). Also it stretches the image or it can give me pillar(vert. lines on both sides) or letterbox(horz. lines on top and bottom). Everything is on screen. There is a banner that runs on the bottom(when you press menu) that guides you to setup, labeling and picture quality and sound quality. Overall even though this model has no PIP(upper model does-HLT6189s), it still is a fantastic set. My sons also use their Playstation 3 on it through HDMI cables and the picture is fantastic. Also I can connect my PC(15 pin D-sub male to male). Software upgrades also available from Samsung using Flashdrive.

Samsung 61" DLP review

Posted Sep 25, 2007 - Definitely a great deal if you're looking to upgrade to a giant HDTV. 1080p was a must for me, and I had heard good things about Samsung from friends and online reviewers. I've also heard good things about the LED light engine that is starting to replace the older color wheel (don't need to worry about shelling out a few hundred bucks every few years to buy a new one), so this version of the 61" Samsung DLP sounded like a good deal. There are tons of connections for the TV, which was a must since the receiver I currently have doesn't support HDMI or even component video. The picture is very clear, even w/o a digital source. However, if you plan to enjoy full HD, make sure you're ready to pay up for some HDMI or component video cables (nothing else will do). Lastly, if you have a smaller house, I wouldn't recommend buying this particular model--the 56" version would probably still be more than enough. Bottom line: great TV, very happy with the deal I got, and I would recommend it highly to anyone in the market for a DLP HDTV.

Posted Nov 27, 2007 - This is the best TV I have ever owned. It is a large, yet beautiful screen. The black bezel adds to the beauty of the picture. You can find some great deals on this set. Its the best value out there in the high-quality 60"+ range. I previously strayed away from DLPs because I did not want to replace the bulb in a few years, but since this is an LED DLP that will not be an issue. That also means no color wheel (I have not seen any "rainbow" effects with this set. The QAM/ATSC tuner is fantastic. When my cable went out, it was able to pick up a few ATSC signals clearly that I could not reliably get before. OTA HD truly provides a better picture than HD cable. And since the TV has two coaxial inputs, you can use one for QAM channels from cable and the other for OTA HD channels at the same time. I just switched to DirecTV and the HD channels look fantastic. I've also played Xbox 360 (1080p over component and VGA) and PS3 (1080p over HDMI) on this set and the experience is breathtaking. But to see this TV truly shine, just watch some HD DVD and Blu-ray movies. The TV is not perfect though. The menus are slow and awkward, but once you get it set up you shouldn't have to venture in there too often. The viewing angles are not as good as my LCD TV. I can still see, but its noticeably dimmer. The optical output only outputs audio from the QAM/ATSC tuners. Audio from HDMI will only be output to the TV speakers. This seems to be common with many TVs and receivers though. This TV does not have Picture-in-Picture, but I very rarely used that anyway.

Samsung 61" DLP TV

Posted Nov 10, 2007 - Other than the lack of energy savings, this TV will most definately make a very positive first impression. I was shocked at how large the screen is. Make sure you can sit at least 7.2 ft away from the screen. This TV is obviously NOT made for smaller rooms, its HUGE! Picture quality is excellent right out of the box and it is also capable of displaying HDTV signals right out of the box...I get NBC HD for free and I can see the obvious difference in overall picture quality and clarity/sharpness, etc. This TV gets the job done. I will update this review if I find any problems later on. The connections are on the right side of the TV when facing the TV. They are NOT directly behind the TV screen, which makes it an absolutely fantastic convienence for making all of your AV connections. Very very happy with this unit! You get what you pay for!

I had been keeping up with DLP\\\'s for almost three years and a friend of mine told me about this new line by Samsung which doesn\\\'t use the color wheel and expensive lamps. Very happy with the set. Connected my HD cablebox and DVD via HDMI and was blown away by the HD picture quality. Gives a film like picture appearance to up-sampled DVD\\\'s in

Posted Jul 24, 2007 - Wow what a picture right out of the box. The sound is good and the controls are easy to use. The remote isn't as comfortable in my hand as some I have used. The TV is light and easy to handle by two people. The cable access is in the back but very accessible from the side. Great TV for a very affordable price.

Samsung HLT6187S LED DLP

Posted Feb 25, 2008 - I have now owned this TV for 3 months. I compared many LCDs, Plasmas, DLPs, etc before purchasing this set. So far I am extremely pleased. I watch a lot of sports and they look amazing on this TV. I have had none of the problems that people used to associate with DLP TVs (no halos, rainbows, etc). The only negative I can find is the vertical viewing angle. If you stand up or sit too low/high when watching, the picture loses brightness. This is only a problem for us when sitting on the floor right in front of it (playing video games mostly). Just don’t do jumping jacks when watching TV and you’ll be fine. I was also worried about the fact that I have a window directly behind the person watching TV. I thought that I might catch a bad glare during the day, but there is really none to be seen. I would definitely recommend this TV to anyone out there.

Long lasting Giant 1080P HDTV

Posted Jan 16, 2008 - This HDTV is great. The 61 inch size is just the sweet spot for home theater enjoyment. 1080P means you're getting the best possible picture at this current time in technology. The LED engine used in this TV means NO REPLACING BULBS every few years! Instead it's rated to last at least 10 years before a replacement! This is mainly why I got it, the long lasting LED and the price. Only wish it had HDMI 1.3 which would make it support Deep Color which will be showing up in PS3 games and other equipment soon.

Samsung HL-T6187S LED DLP Projection HDTV

Posted Jan 9, 2008 - After a basement flood and gut job, we planned to redo the basement in a very special way. The project included a home theater setup, with a new custom made wall unit to house the t.v. and all the extras, 7.1 surround sound, etc. We are a bit unusual in that we (by choice) do not have cable or satellite, but use a rooftop antenna for our reception. A (different) Samsung 61” DLP set was recommended by the home theatre guy a year ago, who assured us that the over the air HD signals we would receive would be just fine. When the wall unit was recently delivered, we did a lot of research, reading and review. An extended warranty would be a must, as it was certain that at a minimum, the lamps would burn out. The cost of that prospective maintenance was scary for us. I was also concerned about warping issues I was reading about with the picture. Then we came upon this LED DLP set online. The more I read, it seemed that this was the wave of the future, and the lamp DLP sets are about at the end of their lifecycle. What was not to like about this set? It almost seemed too good to be true. We went to a local retailer to compare the two sets, and the warping issue with the DLP model was evident in the store. This Samsung 61” LED DLP, however, had a great picture, thin size, and the store was willing to negotiate. We bought. Passed on the extended warranty; no lamps to replace on this set. The set was delivered two days later and it almost killed me to have to wait to plug it in but we had been warned to let it completely warm to room temperature (winter in Chicago). Our remodeling is a bit behind, though, and the antenna is not yet connected in the basement. On a lark, the next day I connected a simple set of rabbit ears to the t.v. and put them on the floor. The set quickly powered up, I selected English language and “antenna” for the source. A scan of channels went by, and lo and behold! We have about 40 channels, analog and DTV, in a concrete basement, with rabbit ears! Our old analog set could only bring in three channels in the same room with the rabbit ears. The picture is jaw droppingly beautiful. We sat there in total awe. You can see the pores in the Today Show’s hosts faces! No color correction has been necessary. We connected it to a new OPPO upconverting DVD player and hooked up a cheap set of temporary 5.1 surround speakers, and we swear we don’t want to leave the basement. We watched a regular DVD version of Gone with the Wind, and the set displayed detail that we had never seen in the movie. The kids fight over whose turn it is to have friends over for movie night. We could not be happier with our decision on this set. Highly recommend. If you take time to read the documentation, you will see that if you register the set online with Samsung, they will extend the one year warranty by a few months for free. Nice.

Best price/size ratio; LED ; Amazing vivid crisp picture quality; Stylish design

Posted Jan 4, 2008 - I have had this TV for about 3 weeks. Overall, very happy with the purchase. I have been looking for a large screen TV for a while to fit my large living room and to replace my 8 yrs old SONY projection TV. I need a TV that is at least 55". LCD or plasma would cost me more-than-doubled the price that I paid for this TV. DLP is the best choice in terms of price/size ratio, especially for size larger than 50". This TV is the 1st generation LED lamp, which doesn't need replacement of bulb every few thousands hours of watching, each replacement would cost ~$300, ouch... I wish it's 2nd generation technology but I can't wait another year. The picture quality is amazing, vivid and crispy for the HD channels over-the-air. I live about 30-40 miles from the TV towers. The QAM tuner in this TV still makes such impressive reception. SO far My DirecTV receivers are unable to receive HD channels (plan to upgrade to HD serive soon), but the non-HD channels via DirecTV still look good (although not amazing) on this unit. By the way you'll need to sit at least 7 ft away from the TV (My sofa is about 12 ft from the TV). Considering its huge size, this TV is surprisingly light weight, about 75 lbs only, which is similar weight as my 37" LCD TV (Olevia) but much lighter than my 46" SONY projection (the one being replaced). I also found out the power consumption for DLP TV is significantly lower than LCD or Plasma. Here is a link for "The chart: HDTV power consumption compared" reviews.cnet.com/4520-.... In short, for similar size HDTVs, the power consumption of this TV is less than half of LCD/Plasma. There are enough inputs on this TV, (3 HDMIs), making it easy to connect all my high-tech toys. My 37" Olevia has only 1 HDMI input. Samsung also puts all the inputs at lower right back corner -- easy to access but also easy to hide from view. This TV looks stylish. My wife likes the sleek frame and my daughter likes the sound when the TV is turned on and off. Now the weakness: First the sound quality is soso to poor. I assume most people would use thier own sound system. Mine just broke so I have to use the TV's built-in speakers. Another problem is about picture size adjustment. There is button on the remote you can change the picture size (aspect) from 4:3 to 16:9 or fit-screen or zoom. WHen I play some Divx video from my upconverter DVD player (using the HDMI input), I couldn't adjust the picture size to fit the screen with scaling the piture propotionally. This occured to some video clips not all clips. My 37" Olveia LCT, on the other hand, has not such problem. I tested for the same video clips.

Great Picture quality but has its problems

Posted Dec 11, 2007 - While this set is an awesome value for money, it oes have its problems. The good news is Samsung understands the halo issue and has worked out a solution for that which completely eliminates it. The fact that it is led based and you dont have to replace the bulb is huge. that was the main selling point for me. the pictures are life like and with proper clibration you are in for a treat.

Posted Dec 10, 2007 - This is a great HDTV! The picture is brilliant and crystal-clear. It has easily interfaced to all my AV sources: Antenna, HDMI receiver, satellite receiver, and USB. The USB input is fantastic for displaying jpeg pictures from a digital camera: imagine seeing your pictures blown up to 30"x40" size - amazing.

Posted Nov 14, 2007 - What an excellent TV. Would I rather have a 61" 1080p plasma set? Of course! But for the money I paid ($1485) this is a wonderful set. I like that I won't be worrying about an expensice bulb replacement like I would be if this was a conventional RPTV.
