awsome TV at reasonable price
picture quality on up-converted DVD signal, HD signal from Cable/over air. Sleek design (for a DLP), light weight
sound quality
Posted Jun 5, 2007 - I have this tv for about one month now. Bought it from amazon.com towards end of April. --- My experience with the TV has been nothing but great. The TV picture quality from up-converted DVD signal, HD broadcast from cable service is mind blowing. It makes me want to stay in the living room and watch more TV program/ movies. The picture from the TV seems really "life like" and the charactors are like "popping out from screen". Picture quality on standard broadcast is acceptable. To me, they are just as goog as from my 10 years old CRT, but my buddies are staying the pictures for SD are blurry. In either case, i think this is expected since the stardard broadcast is 480p, and this set is 1080p. There are lot more "fixed" pixel on the screen. The sound quality is ok, comparing it with the previous version hls5087w, the quality is better, and this model comes with SRS (surround sound). Samsung is attempting to creat surround sound experience with only two speaker. My advise, not to expect much from the built in speakers. but if you are considering this HDTV, you should also consider investing in a decent set of HT system. Once you couple this TV with a decent set of HT system, you will really get to learn the meaning of "enriched experience" on watching movies or just TV shows. ---- on the technical side, this TV offers the first LED engine in the industry. LED engine used to replace the conventional lamp and color wheel. which translates into less mechanical moving parts (the color wheel), and the LED life cycle is rated at 20k hours, where the conventional lamp is rated at 6k. In another words, one should not have to replace the light source for the life of the TV. from my experience, the TV runs very quiet comparing to its previous version hls5087w, which gets some auditable noice from the color wheel spinning. ---- over all, i will recommand this TV to whom are looking for true HD experience, not intending to all mount the TV, but also want to save a few bucks on other home theater gear.
