This 56" widescreen HDTV set is Digital Cable Ready (DCR) and includes CableCARD, which means you won't need a set-top box to enjoy basic, one-way, digital cable service. (Be sure to check with your local cable company for CableCARD compatibility and availability.) With the proper antenna, the built-in digital ATSC tuning system will receive free over-the-air HDTV signals. But it's what's on the screen that counts. Any high definition TV can reproduce high-quality images from high definition sources, but ordinary HDTVs are almost overqualified when it comes to 480i format DVDs or NTSC-TV signals. JVC's 4th-generation Digital Image Scaling Technology (D.I.S.T.) with Genessa 720p, found on the HD56G886, uses an exclusive digital algorithm that seamlessly scales any video source to display at 720p resolution, so the final image is seen at full native resolution with drastically reduced jagged edges. A 3D Y/C comb filter with YNR corrects hanging dots, color bleeding, and other cross-color interference for a clear, super-sharp picture. Finally, HD range 75 MHz Digital Super Detail (DSD) and Natural Progressive circuitry combine to maintain perfect picture focus for both still and active images. minimize

Posted Apr 12, 2006 - I bought this TV in December of 2005. I bought it primarily because they were the first to the market with LCOS and when I saw it in the store, I felt the picture was the best. Unfortunately, after three months the picture started to get darker and became unwatchable. I called JVC and the first person I talked to was nice and she told me to contact the local service center and have it serviced. It went downhill from there. The service center refused to do anything without contacting JVC for pre-authorization. They kept going on about where I bought it from. I bought it brand new from Dr. Plasma off the Internet. I called JVC back and they said as long as I was the original owner and it was within the warranty no problem. They agreed at this time that it was probably the lamp and they would send me one. I've called back several times since then, it's been almost two weeks. Well today was the kicker. Would it hurt the service rep to say: I see you have an open issue, would you allow me a minute to catch up on your notes. No, there is no effective communication anywhere. The guy doesn't seem to understand why I called. Sorry, I can not recommend anybody ever buying ANY JVC product! Ever! I sure won't buy another.

Excellent product

Picture quality is outstanding. One of the best I've seen.

Posted Dec 13, 2005 - Some have complained about the fan noise the set makes, but I hardly notice it. Great product. HDTV picture is one of the best. TV is HDTV intergrated, so no need for the extra box offered by the cable companies unless you want to use the HDMI cable.
