1024 x 768 XGA - 4.4lb - MPN: EP719
Strengths: light weight, bright 2000 lumens
EP719 works perfectly in all my classrooms with all different lightings. Very portable and easy to use! Even though I have used this at home, I feel this projector works best in the lecture room environment. Setup was a little more difficult in the beginning but after playing with this for a couple of weeks, it has not been a problem at all.

TopStrengths: GREAT PRICE, PLUG INS EXCEPT RGB PLUG BUT HAS DVI & 9PIN WHICH CAN BE CONVERTED TO RGB. GOOD BULB PRICE, AVG LIFE.
Weakness: CLARITY IS NOT CRISP AND BRIGHTNESS IS A LITTLE DIMMER THAN EXPECTED GIVEN 2000 L. & 2500 CONTRAST BUT FOR THE PRICE IT IS A VERY GOOD VALUE BUT NOT TV CRISPNESS.
FOR THE PRICE THIS IS A GREAT STARTER HOME VIDEO PROJECTOR. DVD AND TV MOVIES ARE CLEAR BUT A LITTLE DIM, A LOT OF SCEENS ARE IN DARKNESS COMPARED TO A TV TUBE. STADIUM VIEWS OF SPORTS ARE NOT CLEAR SUCH AS FOOTBALL AND BASKET BALL BUT CLOSE UPS ARE FINE. I AM UPGRADING TO THE EP759 OR EP758 TO TRY AND BRIGHTEN UP AND CLEAR UP THE PICTURE. EP719, V=56-85 HRZ. EP758, V=43-120 HRZ ?
HOPE THIS HELPS CHRIS, NC.

TopStrengths: Great color! Nice and bright! Great black levels!
Weakness: Setup is difficult.
Overally, this projector is great for home theater! DLP at this price is outstanding! The DVI input is nice to have - I use an upconverting DVD player with HDMI output converted to DVI for excellent picture quality. The only drawback is that it will require a lot of time and scrutinizing when trying to set the color/white peaking/brightness/contrast to achieve an optimal picture. Other than that, it is bright, colorful, and exciting!

TopI agree that the picture quality of the optoma is great. I also
have an upscaling dvd player. (phillips dvp5960)However, I wanted to know if you or anyone else reading this has had an upscaling problem. When I play a dvd, the on-screen display will only show a maximum of 480p. It never actually upscales the picture even though the projector can handle it. The tech guys at Phillips say it is a "compatibility" problem between their player and the projector. Their solution is to use the component video connections and that should fix the issue of the upscaling. I am not convinced though, since I thought that upscaling only happened through the HDMI connection. If anyone
knows this answer, please reply.
The Philips DVD player will indeed support upconverting via the component outputs. As a 719 owner with an LG upconverting player, I can attest to the excellence of this little projector, _if_ time is taken to set up the picture.
Hope this helps,
Brian
Strengths: Great visual quality! No motion blur, I have used it for everything (PS3, DVD, BluRAY, PC, etc.)! Bulb cheap to replace w/lots of life!
Weakness: none yet, owned for 10 months now!
Would reccomend to anyone! Very bright and has an economy mode as well! Replacement bulb is reasonably priced being you get an average life of 2000 hours. Have had nothing but a great, fun time with this and do not regret it at all!!!

TopStrengths: DLP technology, 2000 lumens, very quiet, portable
Weakness: none so far
Optoma EP719 DLP projector is very portable. It only weighs less than 5 pound that makes it easy to carry around. The projector itself is very bright and very quiet.
The 1024x768 display resolution matches our computer's resolution so we are able to the get best image possible from this projector. Overall, it's really worth the price different compared to the regular $300 projector.

TopStrengths: no noise, quick warm up
Weakness: none so far
I found this projector to be the Best Bang for the Buck after comparison shopping with all the different brands available. Comparing 2500:1 contrast ratio, 2000 ANSI lumens, 16x9 aspect ratio, up to 300 inches screen size projection (huge), 720p or 1080i (high def. DLP), easy set-up, multi connectivity and compatibility for under 1 grand is remarkable while other brand doesn't even come close. Of course there are better specs. projectors out there but be ready to pay more. The higher the contrast ratio and ANSI lumens the better.
To enjoy the full potential of a 1080i picture (movie theater experience minus the annoying person behind you) you need to connect an HD source or an upconverting DVD like Samsung ($130) and a surround sound system. Soon you'll look forward to every Friday & Saturday movie nights at home with the kids and a big smile on your face.

TopStrengths: Light weight. Relative brightness and good resolution.
Weakness: Short bulb life and warranty.
We initially started out looking for a light weight, portable, inexpensive projector for club presentations. We knew nothing!
After some homework to determine what we needed, I was pleasantly surprised that these could also be used for home theater use.
The specs on this model surpassed any other in its price range.
Because of the short bulb life expectancy, we purchased an extended warranty offered through the store, that included one free bulb replacement. The price of this was about half of the price of the bulb alone.
Factoring in the additional price, this unit was still less than its competition.
We have only experimented with the home theater aspects. It seems to work OK. Other reviews say that some tweeking and various cable inputs are required to maximize quality of image.
Hey, any free bonus is great! Saves the price of a TV and I can reuse the audio componets that I already own.

TopStrengths: Excellent Contrast Ratio, good brightness, light weight
Weakness: 1 year warranty, focus takes a bit to adjust
After unpacking the unit the first thing you will notice is how light it is! I had the unit up and working in under 5 minutes. I connected it to my laptop and i think that carrying both the laptop and the projector to meetings will be light and easy. The unit was able to produce a nice clear images (probably around 60") when i tested it in my office and the lights were on and it still looked great. Highly recomended projector.

TopStrengths: Because it weighs less than 5 pounds, this projector fits into my carry-on luggage, making it perfect for business travel. Love it!
Weakness: Sure there are lighter projectors out there and ones with more features, but for what the EP719 offers and at the price I got it for? Can't really complain too badly.
Brightness, color, clarity, weight, XGA resolution at this price...it all adds up for the ideal projector for any on-the-go traveler that has a lot of presentations to give.

The Optoma EP719 has a mild-mannered box-like shape with a silver-grey-and-black color scheme. Packed into this 4.4-pound package, are Superman-style specs that are normally found only on much more expensive projectors. This includes items such as XGA resolution, exceptionally high contrast (claimed to be 2500:1) and 2000 lumens. Indeed, this is the first XGA projector we have seen that breaks...

EP719 Projector
Strengths: DVI AND VGA! Small size, low price, customizeable settings
Weakness: Only a 90 day warranty. Default settings not too good for photos.
This projector was being purchased to display photos for a monthly competition at a local camera club, so display quality was especially important and subject for review by the members. Another member and I research all of the projectors for under $1,000. One key factor was that it needed to be available at a local merchant in case we wanted to exchange it. We ended up buying at Best Buy who matched a 10% coupon I had from CCity...so the price was pretty much the same as the discount Internet stores.
When I first hooped up the EP719, I was a little worried...as our photos didn't look very good. But after a few minutes, I was able to tweak the settings under a "Custom" menu option. Fortunately, even after the projector has been turned off, the settings remain. We had read some good reviews on this projector...and some bad. Best Buy agreed to waive the 15% restocking fee as long as we bought another one from them, so we were willing to give this one a try. The fact that it offered the native higher res AND the dual DVI and VGA input, were real pluses. It would be nice if the warranty was for a longer period...as many other brands offer 6 months...and there are even a few with 1 year or even 2 years on the bulb....but then you are paying a lot more for the machine.
Bottom line, for $810...I think it is an excellent projector...and am considering getting one for my personal use.
