Finally, an LCD Projector That Beats CRT Front Projectors
Fantastic Picture, Easy to Use, Makes DVDs look like HD discs
Costly unit, replacement lamps are $999!
Posted Feb 3, 2006 - Finally, there is an LCD single lens projector that beats the old CRT 3-gun RGB front projectors. This projector is based on Sony's SXRD (Silicon X-tal (Crystal) Reflective Display) with 3 panels. Most projectors of this kind are designed for data projection, but this one can be used for movies. The VPL-VW100 with a 3000:1 contrast ratio makes movies look like high definition without any help from a separate video processor. In fact the processor is built into the VPL-VW100 projector itself. The black level which is significant for movies, is just excellent. The lack of black level is the usual culprit in lesser projectors. This unit is designed for HD and can accomodate HDMI, Digital RGB, component video, S-Video or composite sources. It's ready not just for 2006, but for years beyond. This projector comes with a lighted remote, useful in a darkened home theater. This projector is not for everyone, especially when you consider the cost: $9,999. Replacement bulbs are $999. The 400-watt bulb is rated at 2500 hours. There is no brightness adjustment to extend the bulb's life. This projector is based on Sony's Qualia 004 model which cost $20,000 more, so the VPL-VW100 would appear to be a "bargain." But if the cost is not a significant factor, get this projector which will make your DVDs look like a flawless presentation you would expect from a perfect film presentation. In fact, this projector will make your standard definition DVDs look like HD itself!
