A challenging racing game

Strengths:

Some fast paced racing with lot of destruction

Weaknesses:

Can be hard at times

Posted 1 year ago - This is one game in Jak & Dexter series which goes totally in a different direction. The focus is on racing this time & what a racing atmosphere it is. You can do a lot of destruction & the combat controls can be a little difficult to master while controlling the speed & avoid getting hit. But once you get it - it is extremely satisfying to blow up stuff There are a lot of different racing modes & lot of secret stuff & unlockables. Replay value is pretty high on this one. Some funny cut scenes & witty dialogs makes this one an easy recommendation for anyone looking for some fun & challenge at the same time

Strengths:

great graphics, good story

some of later unlockable cars are not very good

Posted Mar 19, 2008 - JAK X COMBAT RACING is a car racing game for the PS2. The game’s story takes place after Jak 2, where our heroes go for a reading of Krew’s will, who was their enemy in the first game. Without spoiling the story, certain events take place that require Jak and Daxter to have to enter an extremely dangerous death race in which they must emerge victorious or suffer fatal consequences. This game has very good graphics and sound and offers many unique and fun modes , besides the standard racing Adventure Mode. There are others like Turbo Dash, and Death Race, where you try to destroy as many opponent cars as you can. There are four different cups to compete in initially , with 20 different competitions and u will be able to unlock more tracks and challenges as u win more medals. U will also gain points for different race accomplishments u perform during the course of the game and these points can be redeemed to buy new cars , upgrades, and new gear. The race tracks are also fun to compete on and have special environmental hazards like lava and giant snowballs. You also can acquire different weapons to use in the races like homing missiles, grenades, and even super-bombs that wipe out everything onscreen. I really recommend getting this game, especially if you are a JAK and DAXTER fan.

Not Perfect But Still A Solid Combat Racer

Strengths:

Good Story, Plenty of Extras, Lots of Modes, Online Play

Can Be Unbalanced At Times

Posted Feb 1, 2008 - Jak X: Combat Racing is a racing game and much like on the Playstation were Naughty Dog made 3 platformers for Crash Bandicoot then a racing game it has made a racing game for Jak after 3 platforming games on the Playstation 2. The game itself mostly focuses on weapons as while racing good is helpful it isn't nearly as important as it would be in a simulation type racing game like Gran Turismo. The single player mode is well done as it has many goals to beat and has the racing broken up with cutscenes that are fun to watch thoughout the game. The single player mode also includes many different modes that you will have to race though. Another thing worth noting is that Jak X: Combat Racing also has an online mode which is done very well. The one thing that can be frustrating at times is if your doing a race where your objective is to place first you can easily be taken out of first place as the CPU seems to keep up with you no matter how well your doing and one missile hitting you right at the end of the race can make all the difference and have you losing even if you were the front runner the whole race. I would recommend Jak X: Combat Racing as while it isn't has good as Crash Team Racing was for it's time when it came out it is still a solid combat racing game that is well worth playing for fans of either combat and or kart racing games.

Mario Kart...Jak style

Strengths:

Fun racing/gunning, nice story elements

Weaknesses:

Why is Jak in a racing game?

Posted Dec 27, 2007 - I feel this is a very solid, very fun racing game. The combat lends it an almost Mario Kart feel. I also liked that there is a story that adds to the overall mythos, and isn't just tacked on. Finally, if you have Daxter on PSP, you can link them to unlock some cool stuff. A nice touch, and one I hope continues in PS3 games. My only real gripe is I wish it was another platformer, as that's where Jak is best. Not a bad game at all though.
