Mortal Kombat beats the point spread on this one. . .
Solid fighting game, loads of MK lore and content, co-op play support, Mortal Kombat 2 arcade game included
Lots of backtracking, short overall length, inconsistent difficulty level
Posted Jun 25, 2007 - Taking up shortly after the finish of the first Mortal Kombat, Shaolin Monks bridges the gap between the first and second game by placing you in the role of Liu Kang or Kung Lao as you try to escape a rapidly deteriorating island fortress. Series fans will enjoy all of the series characters and environments the developer has worked into this game as well as a ton of unlockable content. The content aside, Shaolin Monks is a rather straightforward adventure/fighting game. All of the arcade controls have been simplified to just one or two button presses, and it works well here. Unfortunately, only series fans will truly appreciate all the MK history this title offers, and you'll need two players to unlock much of the bonus content. Still, Shaolin Monks has joined Sony's Greatest Hits value line, so the asking price of $20 new is more than fair for this much series content.
