5 Star ReviewThe story of Gordon Freeman and the Black Mesa fac ...

Strengths:

Amazing story, great action, intelligent puzzles

Weaknesses:

Older graphic engine

Posted Apr 18, 2005 - The story of Gordon Freeman and the Black Mesa facility are told in Half-Life. It's a port of the PC game onto the PS2, with some graphical improvements. Gordon Freeman is the everyman scientist who must fight against an invading alien horde, among other hazards in Black Mesa. The narrative and story are amazingly well done, with plenty of action and puzzles along the way. Compared to other titles, the graphics engine is a bit dated, though a nice improvement from the PC game. FPS fans should own this without question.

Strengths:

This Game is Long. Very, very long. And fun, oh, so fun.

Weaknesses:

None

Posted Apr 30, 2005 - This game is almost perfect! I say 'almost' because if I had a keyboard and mouse, it would be, but I don't. The single player game is very long and keeps you coming back for more. With a good amount of weapons to choose from and fairly easy puzzles to figure out, it runs along smoothly. In addition to the main game. A co-op version was included. It is about twelve levels long, with you and a friend working together to fight back against the evil alien onslaught. The last level even has you playing as the aliens (Pretty cool). If you don't already have this game, I incurage you to get it, it's worth every penny.

5 Star Review Half-Life (Playstation 2)

Strengths:

Amazing single player first person shooter game, updated graphics, immersive story and gameplay.

Weaknesses:

None

Posted Aug 17, 2005 - This game is the epitome of what FPS are. Even though the game itself came out years ago on the P.C. it hasn't aged one bit in that all other FPS take some elements from this game and expound on it. You play the role of Gordan Freeman, and you start off with nothing. At the time, this was unheard of in a FPS game. Your first real "weapon" is a crow-bar. But, as you progress in the game you get aweseome weapons like the assault rifle, shotgun, grenades and much, much more. The story is amazing and keeps you immersed, there is one character especially who keeps showing up but you can't interact with him and this wants you to know more about this strange person. The graphics have been given an upgrade from the P.C. version and looks great. The sound effects for each weapon are realistic, and where there is music it has a nice effect on gameplay. Overall, this game is a classic, and with it's improvements on the P.C. version this is a must-have for First Person Shooting Fans!

5 Star Review Half Life

Strengths:

Storyline, game play, can be played with USB keyboard/mouse, extra co-op mission, quick-save function

Weaknesses:

Graphics

Posted Jul 30, 2005 - In my opinion, the best FPS on the PS2 and it is approaching 5 years old. This game has a lot of things working for it. The storyline is fantastic; anybody that has played the PS2 or PC versions of the game will know that I am talking about. The game play is also great and so are the controls. Even better, since the PS2 supports USB, with an optional USB keyboard and mouse, you can play this game the way it was meant to feel on the PC. The controls are a lot better when using the keyboard and mouse setup also. In addition to one of the greatest games ever, the PS2 version includes a 2 player, splitscreen, co-op version of a side story to the main game, called Decay. It also includes a deathmatch function over 10 different stages. The graphics are the only thing that may be wrong with this game. They do look dated, but understand that this game was originally released in 2001. But if you can get past the dated look of the game, I highly recommend tracking this game down for the PS2 if you have not played it yet or do not own it for the PC.

5 Star ReviewHalf-Life has enjoyed consumer and critical acclai ...

Strengths:

Excellent sci-fi FPS, compelling characters and story, intelligent puzzles

Weaknesses:

Not as good as PC original, dated graphics

Posted May 2, 2005 - Half-Life has enjoyed consumer and critical acclaim for years now on the PC (even spawning a much-anticipated sequel), so it only seemed right that the consoles would get a port. Unfortunately, it's a few years late to arrive (and the graphics are a tad outdated), but the epic sci-fi adventure/shooter that everyone loved on PC remains pretty much intact on PS2. If you like first person shooters and haven't tried Half-Life on PC, you really owe it to yourself to try it on PS2. The developer did a marvelous job of crafting a compelling story involving government conspiracy and alien invasion while keeping the characters grounded and interesting and the puzzles smart. If it sounds like Half-Life may be a game for you, the PS2 port is your only console option at the moment.
