Strengths:Multifunctional, quiet, lots of fun games
Weaknesses:Huge footprint
Posted 1 year ago - I would give this console a perfect 10! Amazing game, with an amazing selection of exclusive games available. There is of course MGS4, but games like Ratchet & Clank, Uncharted and Gran Tourismo 5 are amazing and lot of fun to play as well. Then there are the downloadable games like Pixel Junk Monsters and Eden, Elefunk, Echochrome, Pain, etc. Not to mention the great line up being released in the Fall - LittleBigPlanet, Resistance 2, Socom, Ratchet expansion, and some amazing looking downloadable games like flOwer and Fat Princess. Then there is Killzone 2 early next year.
Sony also keeps adding functionality to the device, like the most recent addition of the downloadable purchase/rental video store. Speaking of audio/video, the PS3 is a great multimedia device. Built-in DLNA server functionality means I can stream movies and video from central computer or server set up. Robust support for all sorts of media formats. And it is very quiet when viewing the amazing Blu-ray movies, although it does fire up the fans when playing some games after an hour or so.
The PS3+MGS4 is the perfect bundle for anyone wanting to purchase a PS3. It has backwards compatibility with PS1 and (most) PS2 games. Comes with DualShock3 controller, better than the Sixaxis on the other bundles, and comes with two games - downloadable Pain, which is not bad, and the amazing MGS4. Only complaint I have is that Sony should have included an HDMI cable, rather than the silly A/V cables. For such powerful and forward thinking console, the standard cables don't do it justice.
But even then, this is the best console out there. I also own a Wii, and I have not fired it up at all since getting the PS3, even though I own more than 30 games for the Wii. The gaming experience on the PS3 is that much better, IMO. Even my wife likes playing games for the PS3 more than the Wii games.
Rush out and get this limited time bundle, because once it is gone, it will be very hard, if not impossible, to get a decently priced PS3 with backwards compatibility.
