5 Star Review Currently Best PS3 Available

Strengths:

Great deal, PS1/2 compatible, Dual Shock 3 controller, MGS4

Weaknesses:

spotty PS2 compatibility, only composite cables

Posted 1 year ago - This is the best deal you can currently get on a PS3. It is the 80GB version, which unlike the 40GB version, is backwards compatible with most PS2 games (some games run better than others). You also get MGS4, a $60.00 value, along with the Dual Shock 3, which is wireless, motion sensing, and rumbles. If you are looking to get a PS3, this is the one to get.

5 Star Review Awesome entertainment and media device

Strengths:

Multifunctional, quiet, lots of fun games

Weaknesses:

Huge footprint

Posted 1 year ago - I would give this console a perfect 10! Amazing game, with an amazing selection of exclusive games available. There is of course MGS4, but games like Ratchet & Clank, Uncharted and Gran Tourismo 5 are amazing and lot of fun to play as well. Then there are the downloadable games like Pixel Junk Monsters and Eden, Elefunk, Echochrome, Pain, etc. Not to mention the great line up being released in the Fall - LittleBigPlanet, Resistance 2, Socom, Ratchet expansion, and some amazing looking downloadable games like flOwer and Fat Princess. Then there is Killzone 2 early next year. Sony also keeps adding functionality to the device, like the most recent addition of the downloadable purchase/rental video store. Speaking of audio/video, the PS3 is a great multimedia device. Built-in DLNA server functionality means I can stream movies and video from central computer or server set up. Robust support for all sorts of media formats. And it is very quiet when viewing the amazing Blu-ray movies, although it does fire up the fans when playing some games after an hour or so. The PS3+MGS4 is the perfect bundle for anyone wanting to purchase a PS3. It has backwards compatibility with PS1 and (most) PS2 games. Comes with DualShock3 controller, better than the Sixaxis on the other bundles, and comes with two games - downloadable Pain, which is not bad, and the amazing MGS4. Only complaint I have is that Sony should have included an HDMI cable, rather than the silly A/V cables. For such powerful and forward thinking console, the standard cables don't do it justice. But even then, this is the best console out there. I also own a Wii, and I have not fired it up at all since getting the PS3, even though I own more than 30 games for the Wii. The gaming experience on the PS3 is that much better, IMO. Even my wife likes playing games for the PS3 more than the Wii games. Rush out and get this limited time bundle, because once it is gone, it will be very hard, if not impossible, to get a decently priced PS3 with backwards compatibility.

5 Star Review Playstation 3 80GB Metal Gear Solid 4 Bundle

Strengths:

PS3 with PS2 backward compatibility, DualShock 3

Weaknesses:

Backward compatibility is limited.

Posted 1 year ago - Playstation 3 80GB Metal Gear Solid 4 Bundle is probably the last Playstation 3 model with PS2 backward compatibility. It is a great system, with a built-in blu-ray drive to play the latest HD Blu-ray movies, and media card slots to access the popular flash memory formats. It is a true media center for both gaming and movies. The bundle consists of a 80GB PS3 console, a DualShock 3 controller and the Metal Gear Solid 4 game. DS3 is functionally a SixAxis controller with the rumble feature. The inclusion of Metal Gear Solid 4 game is sweet. It's a game that can really make use of the capability of the PS3 hardware. PS2 backward compatibility is limited in this 80GB PS3. It uses both software emulation for the Emotion Engine and hardware for the graphics engine. In reality, this PS3 should run most of your popular games with no or little problem. You can check the compatibility for your games on the Sony website. Notice that the recently released $399.99 80GB PS3 with DualShock3 has no backward compatibility at all. It is based on the 40GB PS3. So if you are concerned about playing your PS2 games on the PS3, make sure you get this bundle before it's gone.

5 Star Review The bundle you have been waiting for

Strengths:

Dualshock 3 controller included MGS4 included 80 GB HDD (can play PS1/PS2 games!)

Weaknesses:

Pricey No component/HDMI cables included (you get composite...gross!)

Posted 1 year ago - If you don't have a PS3 yet, and have been wanting one, this is the best bundle you can get. It starts with an 80 GB PS3 console...which means it plays your old PS1 and PS2 games (unlike the 40 GB). Then, you get Metal Gear Solid 4...a $60 brand new game. Plus, the Dualshock 3 is included. You get a wireless controller that has rumble feedback. This also comes with a downloadable full version of Pain, a PSN game. The only thing that stinks about this bundle is that, like the others, this comes with only composite cables. Seriously, Sony? You give us a next-gen powerhouse console, and give us weak composite cables?! Grab some component or HDMI cables from monoprice.com and have fun with your PS3.

5 Star Review Great Bundle

Strengths:

Great value, 80% PS2 backwards compatibility, better controller, awesome bundled controller.

Weaknesses:

Availability

Posted 1 year ago - I heard some stories about this one being loud. It really isn't loud when compared to say a XBOX 360. Maybe the 40GB is really quiet but the 80GB really isn't as loud as others have been saying. This is a great system, its a bit of a shame I waited this long to et it but there hasn't been anything worth buing til Metal Gear Solid 4 and now its here and its worth it! Woo hoo.

5 Star Review Best PS3 bundle you can get!

Strengths:

Full features, includes MGS4

Weaknesses:

can get a bit noisy

Posted 1 year ago - This is the best PS3 bundle you can get thus far. MGS4 is considered by most to be the best game ever created. Add that to a machine that supports high definition gaming and blu-ray movie experience, and you'll be a happy camper for a very long time. I have the device hooked up to my lcd hdtv and the the graphics are amazingly crisp. A quick auto-setup feature allows the ps3 to detect your screen's display capability. If you can get online, make sure you do the latest System Update as it adds a bunch of features. I can connect to my ps3 from another computer over the network to transfer files, and even run linux in it!

5 Star Review MGS4 PS3 Bundle - Wow

Strengths:

PS3 - looks terrific on HDTV! PS3 interface very intuitive! MGS4 is awesome,

Weaknesses:

Gets hot!! Lots of cut scenes in MGS4

Posted 1 year ago - I admit that I am an XBox360 owner and love it. However, when the recent Walmart $100 gift card deal along with the Sony Visa $100 back promotion came along, it was too much for me to pass up. I have a PS2, so I am familiar with the quality of the Sony gaming system. The PS3 is much, much more than a gaming unit. It is an entertainment hub. The Blu-Ray player is state of the art, especially because Sony periodically sends out firmware updates which improve the Blu-Ray features. Plus, the Blu-Ray player acts an an upscaler for plain DVDs. This makes a huge difference when watching on a large HDTV. The unit acts a hub for music, audio and video and can be controlled with a PSP as well. The interface is much easier to navigate than the XBox360 blade system. The included controller is the DualShock 3 which will be very familiar to previous PS2 owners. Boy, does the rumble feature work on this puppy. When the helicopter lands in the cemetery cut scene in MSG4, boy do you feel it. The 80GB PS3 is able to play most PS2 game due to software emulation. This differs from the 40GB PS3 which can not play PS2 games at this time. I haven't played MGS4 for too long, but it looks beautiful. Other than the numerous cut scenes, the game is fun. The only warning is that the 80GB units run hotter than their 40GB counterparts and it is advisable to keep the unit in a well ventilated area.

4 Star Review Great Buy

Strengths:

MGS4, 80 gig with backwards compatibility, dual shock controller

Weaknesses:

slightly louder than the 40 gig, wireless range isn't as good as the 40 gig.

Posted 1 year ago - I bought this package and love it! I honestly thought I would just use the blueray player portion as it's a great deal on a blueray drive, but now I find myself mainly playing games on it. It was a snap to setup. I did have issues with the wireless connection dropping and ultimately had to update the system software using a USB drive after downloading it from my desktop. It's a great deal considering the backwards compatibility, the larger HD size, the game, and the dual shock controller. Buying them separately would cost more than the 100 extra this costs over the 40 gig. It is slightly louder when on than the 40 gig. The noise is by no means obtrusive, but it is there.

5 Star Review PlayStation 3 80GB Metal Gear Solid 4 Bundle

Strengths:

Metal Gear Solid 4 as part of the bundle, Dual Shock 3 controller, Blu-Ray DVD player

Weaknesses:

Poor PS2 backwards compatibility, bulky

Posted 1 year ago - Being a Metal Gear Solid fan had me hold out on getting a PS3 since that was the only title I wanted for the system up till then. Being able to get the game as part of the bundle was great and I have enjoyed the PS3. It is much quieter than the Xbox 360 but it is also much bigger so make sure you have room in your entertainment center. Backwards compatibility is nice but it seems like Sony is trying to do away with it in the PS3 since they are still selling PS2 systems. Still if you are looking for a Blu-Ray player, you might as well get a PS3 so you can play games as well.

5 Star Review MGS4 PS3 bundle

Strengths:

great value: DS3, game, 80G PS3 for $500, easy to upgrade HDD

Weaknesses:

not quite 100% PS2 compatibility, one controller in box

Posted 1 year ago - A 80G PS3 with a copy of MGS4 and the addition of the dualshock 3 controller makes this combination the best bundle that’s been available for the PS3 thus far. Even if you’re not a fan of the MGS series, you can sell it off to a fan and get some money back. I appreciate the extra features of the 80G (over the 40G model): PS2 backwards compatibility, 4 USB ports for accessory driven games like Rock Band, it’s BluRay hidef capability and the SACD functionality. Pick this up soon because in Sept, it’s likely this bundle will no longer be produced in favor of the “new” 80G unit which is a 40G platform (no SACD or backwards compatibility, only 2 USB ports) with a larger drive.

5 Star Review Amazing Machine

Strengths:

Best Blu-ray Player, Plays PS2, PS1 Games, Wireless & Ethernet, Up-converts DVD's to near HD, that includes the New Dolby TRUE HD,DTS HD Master Audio... Easy to Upgrade the HD from 80GB to 320GB

Weaknesses:

Remote that is sold separately PS3 is Bluetooth only ,No remoted included for Blu-ray & DVD movies

Posted 1 year ago - After doing some research to replace a S-L-O-W Sharp Blu-ray Player.. I wanted the best at a good price ....the best Blu-ray player available..time and time again reviews showed that the PS3 was better and more advanced than stand-alone Blu-ray players. plus you got the best gaming machine to boot. I have watched my 13 year old son play games on it and the detail is amazing...this machine couples with a Sony KDL-52W4100 LCD TV makes me smile just watching old DVD movies. This baby goes online wirelessly or connect a Ethernet cable to it for faster downloads of games and movies...it hard keeping my son off of it kudos to Sony

5 Star Review Metal Gear Solid 4 PS3 Bundle Provides Best Bang for your Buck

Strengths:

Wireless Dual-Shock 3 Controller Included | Metal Gear Solid 4 Included | Spacious 80GB Hard Drive | Backwards Compatibility with PS2 and PS1 Games

Weaknesses:

Backwards Compatibility Doesn’t Always Work | Only Basic Composite Cable Included

Posted 1 year ago - The Ultimate Playstation 3 Bundle has arrived! If you’ve been holding off on the PS3 because of the cost, now is the time to buy buy buy. This console gives you the best bang for your buck by far – by coming with a free $60 game and a Dual-Shock 3 Wireless controller, and a large 80GB hard drive to store your downloaded media, saved games, and pre-loaded games, this console is never going to let you down. Then when you take into consideration that the PS3 can play Blu-Ray movies in addition to playing Hi-Def games, it is a no brainer as to which console should be complimenting your home entertainment needs!

5 Star Review Playstation 3 MGS 4 Bundle

Strengths:

Great value and console

Weaknesses:

none

Posted 1 year ago - This is a such a great deal. Not only do you get the most powerful gaming console on the market, but packed in the box is also the platform's premiere game Metal Gear Solid 4. Plus, you'll also get the updated controller that adds a rumble feature to the exsisting motion sensors. You'll also get all the cables and hookups needed and a voucher for a free downloadable game called PAIN. This is an all around great buy for gamers.
