DMC3 + Next Gen Graphics = DMC4

Strengths:

Gorgeous graphics Beautiful cut scenes

Weaknesses:

Repetitive Brings very little new to the table Frustrating at times

Posted 1 year ago - The Devil May Cry 4 concept is very similar to previous versions in the DMC series. You play as a dude with demonic powers, beat up demons that have a taste for your blood using crazy moves and play through a story that is not much more than a way to split up the action rather than a an engaging story that pulls you in. Basically you run around, solve simple puzzles and beat up demons. However, the graphics and cut scenes are very well done and they look very nice. Overall, a pretty average game - it's not a horrible game but it's not a great game either.

It could've been better!

Strengths:

In game and CG movies graphics. Similar game-play mechanics you loved and hated.

Weaknesses:

The main story of the game revolves around a new character rather than Dante!

Posted 1 year ago - After Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, I realized even more that a game could have good storyline just like a movie. Just what is up with Capcom?! They weren't even done with Dante's story and created a new character, who looks very similar to Dante. Whatever happened to creativity?! Boring, boring boring!! Although graphics made huge jump from the past games of the series but not good enough! I'm really disappointed with what Capcom has done to ruin the series. Unless you are like a hardcore fan of the series, rent it.

Fantastic Hack-And-Slash

Strengths:

Gorgeous Visuals, Rocking Surround Sound Music, A Tiny Faster Loading Time Than 360 Version (Thanks To Mandatory HDD Install), Rumbles with Dual Shock 3

Posted 1 year ago - DMC4 is the first installment of the Devil May Cry series for next-gen (well, now this-gen) consoles. It delivers the DMC-experience in spades. Not only are the visuals absolutely breathtaking, but the cut-scenes (which are done in real-time), flow seamlessly among battles making the whole gaming experience something out of a Hollywood cinema. While I do regret that the PS3 version requires a 5GB install, if you have the 80GB PS3 or simply upgrade the system yourself with a third-party HDD - space shouldn't be much of an issue. On the plus side of this annoying requirement, it does load a bit faster than the 360 version - which has to stream everything from the DVD. In terms of graphical comparison between the two consoles, it's pretty much a stalemate as Capcom was able to pull off spectacular visuals on both hardware systems - so you don't need to figure out which one is the "superior" gaming experience. With that being said, I prefer the Dual-Shock 3 controller more for a DMC-game (as with the PS2-versions), so I actually consider the PS3 version a plus. On top of that, this game works with the new Dual-Shock 3 controller rumble feature (which is a MUST-HAVE feature for the true DMC gaming experience.)

One of the best action games on PS3

Strengths:

Great actions; over-the-top cut scenes; continues the pedigree of the Devil May Cry series

Weaknesses:

Game mechanics hasn't improved much from DMC3

Posted 1 year ago - The Devil May Cry series has been one of my favorite action game series on PS2. This fourth entry in the series doesn't let down. It doesn't stray too far from the well established formula. You gain new weapons and abilities as you progress through the game. As you expand your arsenals and combos, you learn to appreciate the many different ways to destroy your enemies. The HD graphics is something to behold on a big screen HDTV. The background architectures are very sharp. The improved visual over the past games in the series can be felt immediately, even though some of the character models are not the best by today's standard. And if your PS3 is hooked up to the TV via HDMI, you may even be able to improve the contrast slightly more by turning on the RGB Full Range and Super-White from PS3's XMB --> Settings --> Display Settings. The cut scenes are full of crazy wire-fu-like acrobatic action sequences, just like in DMC3. They are always entertaining to watch. You start out the game with the new character Nero, but you also gain control of the original main character Dante later in the game. The gameplay hasn't improved much from DMC3, which may not be a bad thing considering DMC3 being a very good game. But since DMC3 was leaps and bounds past DMC2, I was hoping this DMC4 would have been much improved over DMC3 too. Too bad that wasn't the case, at least in the gameplay department. There are also some backtracking. The occasional running around in enemy-less areas can be a little tedious. Overall, I am very happy with the purchase. It made me even a more loyal fan of the DMC series.

Devil does cry.

Strengths:

Great cutscenes and pacing, character sdesigns.

Weaknesses:

A 2002 game spruced up for 2008.

Posted May 27, 2008 - DMC4 is a technically impressive game wih a huge flaw. Its gameplay. The game looks great, has some great monster dsigns, responsive controls. The problem is the game play seems to have stood still while other better games have come out like GoW. When there's a DMC4, it'll need a gameplay upgrade or it may get left behind.

Gorgeous game with a exciting fighting system

Strengths:

Fighting system is fast paced and somewhat interactive, Cutscenes are, as far as I can tell, real-time and amazing, Story is driven well by cutscenes.

Weaknesses:

Fights can get repetitive. Enemies are not varied enough. Would be nice to have more control over the "throws" you can do. Camera changes can be too abrupt.

Posted May 5, 2008 - This is actually my first foray into the Devil May Cry series. I have not yet completed the game but so far I have found it enjoyable. The fighting system is real-time and therefore very quick. I appreciate the control you have over your attacks and they variety you can perform. You truly feel like you are becoming a better "fighter" as you play on. The cutscenes are rendered in realtime as far as I can tell. They look amazing and really make the game feel like more of a movie. They drive the storyline and break up the game to help alleviate some of its repetitive nature. As I already mentioned, the fights do get somewhat repetitive. They enemies aren't particularly varied. Generally for each type of environment there are just a few different enemy types that you will see over and over. You will walk into a room, the doors will seal, you'll fight the enemies and kill them, the doors will unseal and you can proceed. Repeat this until you beat the game. Thankfully the different skills you can buy keep things fresh and, as mentioned, the cutscenes keep the action from getting mundane. The only thing I wish they would have added to the fighting system is a bit more control. I love throwing around the "ice" enemies, however, you can control too much how you throw them. I think it would be fun to throw them and have them collide with targets of my choosing. Shortcomings aside, I would highly recommend this game as one of the best I have played on the PS3.

Great Eye Candy, Not Much Else

Strengths:

Easy to Play, Amazing Visuals, Easy Combo System

Weaknesses:

Nothing All that New, Repetitive, Cheesy Voice Dialogue

Posted May 5, 2008 - A great continuation of the DMC series now on the next gen system. Great fun, amazing visuals...but I will never get to be on the Metal Gear 4 level. Great combo action and fun gameplay, but the game's not worth full price. If on sale, pick it up. Good for spurts of 1/2 hour to 1 hour game play to relieve some stress. Awesome sword + gun action, love it!

Devil May Cry 4 for PS3 = Awesome

Strengths:

This game is the best one since the original on PS2, the graphics are amazing, and so are the animations. The gameplay is great too.

Weaknesses:

The gameplay is a little too repetetive at times, and you have to backtrack quite a bit also, other than that though, the game is one of the best for PS3 right now.

Posted Apr 14, 2008 - Though the focus might be more on Nero than Dante (the 2 characters you play as), and could've been named something else with a Dante cameo, DMC4 still has everything that fans expect of the game – over the top fight sequences, tons of replayability and an experience with an excellent production value. Whether it's on the PS3 or the 360, action fans are going to get one incredible experience with this game, and if you own either system, you'll have a great time. This game will hold us all over until a game like God of War finally makes its way to the PS3.

Very Good, But Short

Strengths:

Good Graphics, Two Unique Characters, Responsive Controls, Awesome Action Scenes

Weaknesses:

Bad Camera Angles, Game Is Too Short

Posted Apr 11, 2008 - This is my first time playing a Devil May Cry game, and I am quite impressed. The graphics are very smooth, with minor slow down when there are too many enemies on the screen, but it doesn't take a way much from the action. With two different characters to use you get a change of pace through out the game, but my complaints is the game is simply too short, and the story just leaves you hanging. But you do get a good quality of 15 hours of gameplay or so. Unless of course you chose to reply the game in all of its different difficulty setting which would bring the game much more reply value, but I don't like replying an action game more than 3 times. The controls are spot on, and you really feel like you have control over your character at all times. The action only slows down occasionally for you to solve a puzzle or two. The boss fights are good, but you do fight the same boss multiple times. The camera angles are not very good, often times I found myself walking straight only to have an awkward camera angle change that changes the controls from up to down. Overall a very enjoyable game.

DMC4 - Solid Action Game

Strengths:

Cutscenes, Epic Boss Battles, Deep fighting customization, Tight gameplay

Weaknesses:

Inconsistent camera angles, Switching from Nero to Dante, Backtracking, Difficulty can be frustrating

Posted Apr 10, 2008 - I owned Devil May Cry for the PS2 but did not play 2 or 3. Even though I had not played DMC in ages, DMC4 was pretty easy to pick up and start playing. The cutscenes are entertaining and decently long. The bosses are massive in size which I am a sucker for. One of my biggest gripes is probably the camera angles. At times they can be terrible and obstruct your vision. The movement of the camera is also kind of awkward. I also was not too fond of switching from Nero to Dante. Dante's fighting abilities are so deep compared to Nero so it was like playing a completely new game once becoming Dante. Overall this is a solid game with tight mechanics.

The Devil May Be Crying But You Won't Be (Well Until You Get Beat Down)

Strengths:

Fighting System, New Playable Character

Fairly Short

Posted Apr 3, 2008 - Devil May Cry 4 is an action game and while it may not change anyone's mind about the series it has added some new ideas along with toning down how hard the game is, compared to Devil May Cry 3. You start out the game playing as Nero and the biggest difference between him and Dante is that he can grab and toss enemies with his mutant like arm. Along with that he does slightly different sword swings then Dante and his Gun charges up differently then Dante's. He also can do something else new called exceed in which you can charge up a meter that works sort of like a gas petal that will power up his sword and the next hit you do with this powered up will have fire around his sword as he attacks which will do more damage to enemies. The overall difficultly in Devil May Cry 4 is toned down compared to Devil May Cry 3 even some of the enemies in Devil May Cry 4 that are similar looking to enemies in Devil May 3 (best example being the Black Reapers in 4 to the white type dreaded Angel/Reapers in 3) have a more notable weakness to take advantage of in 4 making them much easier to deal with and not so over the top hard to deal with has was the case with some of the enemies that had a tough to expose weakness or no weakness at all in Devil May Cry 3. The fighting system is top notch as it was in Devil May Cry 3 so even the most repetitive fighting can still be a lot of fun since it's done so well. The bosses are still tough though not as bad as 3 but will still be challenging and will surely kill you the first time around (or first few times) has you are learning how to best deal with and defeat them. Also Devil May Cry 4 has 4 difficulties along with extras to earn and open up as you beat the game. The cinemas are also top notch as in previous Devil May Cry games. I would highly recommend Devil May Cry 4 has it's one of the best games on the Playstation 3 and probably the best action adventure game yet along with the over the top difficulty being toned down some for this latest Devil May Cry

Nero makes his debute!

Posted Apr 29, 2008 - Instead of Dante being the main character you plan as Nero, while Nero doesn't have stances like Trickster, and such Nero is given his buster ability which pummels bosses in humidity. As far as the storyline goes it may not appeal to everyone. As a Devil May Cry fan one should know what to expect. If one is not a fan there is always the option of picking up the anniversary set that contains all three DMC games on PS2.

If you like God of War you will probably like this as well

Strengths:

Big creative bosses, decent graphics, and good story so far.

Weaknesses:

Bosses are a little too easy to beat

Posted Feb 28, 2008 - I bought this game hoping it was similar to God of War. Having never played the previous DMC I decided to try this out and so far it is pretty fun. The game play is similar to GOW with the combos, collecting red kidney beans to power up etc. The 2 bosses I've faced looks pretty cool, but is a little to easy to beat. I would not go out of my way to buy this game and would rate this around an 80-85 because there is just something missing and doesn't draw you in like GOW.
