5 Star Review You need to but UT3

Strengths:

gameplay graphics online play

Weaknesses:

campaign is only map missions

Posted Jan 3, 2008 - if you like first person shooter you'll love unreal tournament 3. it is ver addictive. i've been playing the solo campaign and it's been lots of fun, i'm waiting to complete the campaign mode before playing online. i'm sure ut3 online is just as good as the campaign or even better. i bought this game at the same time i bought assassins creed, cod4, and stranglehold, this is the only that is being played.

4 Star Review Old school shooter

Strengths:

Graphics, sound, steady frame rate, support keyboard/mouse setup

Weaknesses:

No real single player story mode

Posted May 30, 2008 - This is an old school run and gun shooter in the likes of Quake 2, 3, and Unreal Tournament 2003, 2004. It tests the players' reflexes and aiming accuracy. In a over-crowded FPS genre, old school game play has been dropped in favor of strategic game play in recent shooters like Call of Duty 4 and Rainbow Six Vegas series. This game brings back the simple yet fun game play of first generation FPS, with Gear of War like graphic and sound. The game is not for everyone but is a good one for me as shooters like these are very rare these days.

4 Star Review Classic Old School Style FPS for PS3

Strengths:

Fast-Paced Gameplay, Graphics, Buttery-Smooth Framerate, Fun Multiplayer

Weaknesses:

Single-player campaign should be called Training Mode

Posted May 7, 2008 - UT3 brings classic first-person shooter gameplay to the PS3. It is fast-paced and the online multiplayer is very addictive. Fans of the Unreal Tournament franchise will feel right at home with the gameplay and weapons. It’s hard to argue with being able to carry more than two weapons and all of them having secondary firing modes (i.e. this is fraggin heaven). It does take a bit of practice to get accustomed to using the DualShock3 controller if you’re more of a mouse and keyboard type of FPS player but then again, you can always go with the mouse and keyboard functionality, which is enabled on the PS3. I also like the fact you can see which online matches allow M/KB players. Like previous Unreal Tournament games, the single player campaign is just training mode filler. The only reason to get this game is the fun multiplayer. This is a worthwhile purchase if you like your first-person shooters to be fast and furious.

4 Star Review Unreal Tournament III (PS3)

Strengths:

This is one amazing looking game if you have an HD TV with an HDMI hookup, looks better than Gears of War if you can belive it.

Weaknesses:

This game does NOT offer offline multiplayer support (vis a vis splitscreen). For online multiplay, it's great.

Posted Apr 25, 2008 - Its fast, fun, and increadibly addictive. Its one of the best first-person shooters I have played this year, right behind Call of Duty 4 and Halo 3. Unreal tournament 3's charm comes from its fast paced non-stop gameplay and the great wepons at your desposal with wich you can deal carnage. Many people are complaining about the lack of off-line multiplayer, but with UT3's incredible online play, the offline is not sorely missed at all. It has a single player campaign but its really useless when you have thousands of people to go to war with online. In short UT3 is one of the top 3 shooters this year and the best on the PS3( until Killzone2 comes out anyway) so far. If you love amazing visuals, fast non-stop gameplay, great wepons, and terrific online support you really can't go wrong with UT3. Kudos to EPIC for following a fantastic game likeGears of War with another gem that is UT3.Amazing Game!!!

3 Star Review for old school player dissapointing

Strengths:

If the speed modifier is used on a level then the game is awesome because it is so fastpaced and the weapons work like you would expect them to. The graphics are very pretty and the maps are big.

Weaknesses:

Unless you have great connection the game will kick you off a lot or it is hard to even get on to play.

Posted Feb 29, 2008 - I have been playing unreal since it was called unreal. The first version was had incredible graphics and the single player mode was amazing in the days before hardcore gamers were battling each other in the tournament. I am a huge fan of this franchise but the last few versions have left me disappointed. This game is fun but not as addictive as the last few titles. The big problem I have with it is that their server sucks or my connection sucks. It does not work as smoothly as I thought it would being a console game. The PC versions work way better for me. I think that if you have to make a choice between UT3 Resistance and Call of Duty 4 (because not everyone can own all three like I do) you get the most fun out of resistance overall.

4 Star Review unreal tournament

Strengths:

intense online multiplayer, great visuals

Weaknesses:

single player campaign is a joke

Posted Feb 27, 2008 - Call of Duty 4 is the first time I really played multiplayer online so I picked up Unreal Tournament get some more online fun. The two games are very different and I prefer Call of Duty of this, but its still a lot of fun. The game play is very intense and fast paced. I know this game is known for its online mode, but the single player campaign is nothing more than bots put into levels that you kill until you reach a certain score. Some story is thrown in between each level, but it doesn’t add anything to the campaign. If your into more intense futuristic shooters then im sure you will enjoy this game.

5 Star Review Unreal Tournament III

Strengths:

Fast paced shooter

Weaknesses:

None so far

Posted Feb 27, 2008 - Unreal Tournament III brings back the exhilarating action of the franchise. The graphics are amazing. They made good use of Unreal Engine. This is a great multi player shooter with great level design. Franchise fans and gamers new to this to franchise should definitely play this game. Most fun I have on a first person shooter against my friends.

5 Star Review Excellent FPS for any system.

Strengths:

Keyboard and Mouse support Great Graphics Intense & fast gameplay Able to install custom mods and maps like PC version

Weaknesses:

Mouse support lacking No voice chat support

Posted Feb 11, 2008 - Ok, let's get the negatives out of the way: Voice chat seems to be disabled, even though it appears in the keyboard menu. This makes it harder to communicate with other players for team-based games. I could not get my mouse working for an hour, it turns out you need to plug all the USB devices attached to it, then plug in the mouse first, followed by the rest of the devices. Not sure if it's the PS3 or game's fault. This can definitely get annoying after a while. You cannot map keys to extra buttons on your mouse. I brought a new mouse just for this game hoping it'll be helpful, but they don't appear to be mappable in the game. On to the good: The mouse and keyboard are just excellent, it feels just like playing it on the PC with a mouse and keyboard. You can map any of the usually keys to the game, you can adjust mouse sensitivity, weapon preference, etc... Although, I am disappointed that the ps3 does not offer a mouse acceleration option that my Logitech mouse drivers has for my PC. However, the mouse in the ps3 still feels the same as a PC mouse with no acceleration on. The ps3 controller is also not bad to use, but it just does not feel the same as using the mouse and keyboard for me. The online play is very fast paced always full of players/bots, lots of game modes and maps, and I have not experienced lag on the servers I have played in so far; it is fun. There is also the ability to easily install custom maps and mods for the game. You just download the content onto some sort of USB drive then connect it to the ps3 and select it inside the game. I still prefer this game over the PC version because it offers me great graphics with most of the features of the PC version but not require me to buy a new computer in order to get the same experience. I think this game convinced me that any console game can rival the PC version in most areas (controls, graphics, gameplay, sound, etc...). Please note that these features/bugs may have changed by the time you read this, since the developers can easily patch the game and submit it to users. I recommend this game to anyone who's a fan of the Unreal series or people who was an insanely paced FPS with a PS3. I definitely like this over the PC version.

4 Star Review Pretty good title for FPS fans addicted to Halo

Strengths:

Fun storyline mode, decent graphics, GREAT vehicles, short learning curve.

Weaknesses:

Some of the missions are frustrating because they depend on chance; poor explanation of some features such as orders that can be issued to team members; only three mission types; lag in online play

Posted Jan 4, 2008 - I should mention that I have never played any of the predecessors in this series on a regular basis. But I have been looking forward to this title and had fun with - no doubt about that. There are a wide variety of weapons, much more easy to access and get than in games like Halo centered on two or three weapons; and the weapons are pretty creative I must say. This means that if you like two or three guns, it won't be very long until you get your hands on one of them, which I kinda like. Graphics are really good, especially the lighting effects. Gameplay length is pretty solid.. it took me a week playing around 2-3 hours a day (winter break - I was bored :) ) The vehicles are a lot of fun. The hoverboard is really convenient (although the translocators are a little annoying in my opinion), the viper is fun, and the darkwalker is awesome. However, it's kind of monotonous playing the campaign when the missions, when they're all the same 3 kinds with minor modifications and across different maps. This does allow you to get good at these kinds of missions, but sometimes they get a little frustrating - especially when you play the same kind in the same map, like you do a couple of times. Also, it's a little annoying when you win or lose based on luck (I was trying for two days to beat one mission, when it just happened without doing anything different. There wasn't a right way to do it, it was just luck and convenient timing). Ubisoft rushed to get this out the door and you can tell this is true at points of time. Some of the features, like issuing commands to your team members, are unexplained anywhere that I could see. They do a good job of a briefing at the beginning of each mission, though, and this acts like a (very) brief walkthrough. My biggest complaint was online play. The lag for shooting was TERRIBLE. It took a half second to fire after I pressed the trigger, and this got annoying after a while. Given this is a very multiplayer oriented game, this was a major problem. I don't think there was anything wrong with my internet, but I suppose I can admit the possibility. All in all - a must play for PS3 owners, I'd say. Definitely one of the strongest exclusives out yet for the console, and lots of fun.

3 Star Review Over-rated

Strengths:

It can be played on a rainy day

Weaknesses:

The experience is played out and dull

Posted Feb 20, 2008 - I wanted to enjoy this game so much, but couldn't. The games were relatively lag-free, but it was just a very dumbed down experience; shoot your rocket at a foe, watch him explode. Battles were nothing more than who can shoot an explosive at your foot the fastest. It does not feel rewarding when you win a match. There's no team comradery or much chatting involved, and it just feels like an outdated multiplayer experience; quick reflexes and fast running. Good for a rainy day. Don't get me wrong, it IS a fun game, there's just so much better out there. It has great replay if you enjoy mods/custom user maps.
