The Olympus DS-40 is great for business and school settings where taking notes would otherwise be too much work. The voice recorder has multiple recording modes including SHQ and SSP, the difference being that the SHQ is high quality and the SSP is the standard mode. The unit provides excellent sound recording quality and easy playback. However, there are some noticeable features that are missing. The Olympus DS-40 only has 512MB of flash memory, which means that it can record a maximum of 136 hours on the low quality setting, but substantially less on the higher quality setting. The device can record music as well, but you are limited to 512MB worth. The high quality recording mode does give professional results, and the noise cancellation feature provides crisper recordings. The device runs on two AAA batteries and gets well over 30 hours of recording before they have to be replaced. Overall, the DS-40 is an amazing device but its lack of expandable memory is a disappointment. - Read Full Review
