Portable - MPN: TCM200DV
Strengths: Double record time, Playback speed control, Inexpensive, Voice Operated Recording, 25 hour battery life, Uses regular size cassette tapes, Compact
Weakness: No auto stop for FF/REW, Built in microphone has limited range, AC adaptor not included, No counter
The Sony TCM-200DV Cassette Recorder has a lot of features for the price. I especially like the double record time which allows a typical 90 minute tape to last 180 minutes. I buy 120 minute tapes and can get 2 hours on EACH side. The playback speed control lets you adjust for any slight speed variances. The voice operated recording (VOR) is useful in saving tape, as it only records if the microphone picks up sound. It is a bargain at a retail price of $29.95. On the downside, there is no autostop for FF/REW so when you get to the end of the tape the buttons do not disengage. Also, the built in microphone has limited range. I use it for meetings where all of the participants are at the same table and it works great, but I don't think it would work well at a lecture if you were not close to the speaker. This is the second one I have bought, as the other one started "buzzing" after two years. Still, it's a lot cheaper to buy another one that to spend a ton of money on the digital voice recorders (the cheap ones are twice the price and perform terribly). Of course, if you use the double speed, you can only play it back on this recorder. I usually just record it on my PC and burn a CD for playback and storage.

TopStrengths: Light weight, easy to operate, good battery life
Weakness: Sound quality
This is a decent cassette player - if you truly need one. I got it for my father, who is having a hard time handling today's digital voice recorders. make no mistake, this will not record quality music - even for voices, it renders a metallic sound.

Sony TCM-200DV Cassette Voice Recorder
Strengths: Great Battery life, Double record time, Playback speed control, Voice Operated Recording
Weakness: No auto rewind feature, Power Adaptor not included.
Sony TCM-200DV Cassette Recorder is another good product from SONY, Its compact size and powerfull speakers attracted me towards it. Only problem with this is that it does not have auto rewind feature, it means you have to rewind manually every time. But overall its good product.
